I forgot to get the chest in the first room. So how do i get this stuff or should i start a new game?

If you're still in Haven you should be able to just go back into the house and grab it.

 

Mounts are Wartable operations

 

After you reach Skyhold you'll get a bunch of stuff from the chest in the Undercroft

I tried to follow the path but it won't let me go over the spot where you jump down when you first get your party. Any ideas?

Are you talking about the very beginning of the game?  When you meet Solas and Varric?  Because you don't get the DLC gear until after that point.  You need to finish the prolouge and it will be in your room in Haven when you wake up.  If you don't grab it there it'll be in the Undercroft at Skyhold later in the game.

You get the Flames of the Inquisition gear at Haven, the schematics for this gear at Skyhold's undercroft (along with the red lyrium reaper gear if you completed that webgame), then the upgraded Flames gear and schematics after completing Here Lies the Abyss.
