So, is Garrus supposed to nearly die every playthrough? i thought it was just b/c i wasn't doing too well protecting him (lost half his health by the time the gunship showed up), but i cant be too sure. It definitely shocked me when he recovered aboard the Normany and was horribly disfigured. I just have to know if this is the way things are supposed to play out (its only my first playthrough, about 7 hours in)

Nope. that part was entirely scripted and is bound to happen no matter what you do.

Which was probably what Bioware intended to do, with all that "Emotionally Engaging" talk.

if it were not for all that.....there would be nothing to lead joker to say " glad to see he finally pulled that stick out of his butt, but now he uses it to beat people to death."

Garrus is a total badass. He only lost about a quarter of his health with me, but he still got shot in the face, and then lived. Badass.

Yup, just wanted to hug him, like to think he and my fem shep had a strong bound as the last play through in 1 was with garus and wrex.

I always did Garrus/Kaidan or Garrus/Liara, so glad Garrus was romanceable. I thought about staying true to Kaidan, but then he had his emo meltdown on me and pissed me off.

Kaiden was the LI last play through...... now he's a pansywipe..... One of the options should have been "Knee to Junk"

The reaction from the old party members was quite annoying. They were in a state of shock though, probably from the attack. It does sound pretty weird. Like they think I was brainwashed. I guess they didn't understand the need to "move on" (and I mean in the right direction, like Garrus).

Does anyone know how to get Garrus' loyalty quest? Someone told me that he won't talk to me until I do it, he just upgrades the normandy weapons and sulks. Image IPB

You get it by talking to him. If he's not being forthcoming, do a side-quest and go back to him.

Garrus was cool in the first game but now i like him even more. What a badass. I was freaked out but when he opened his eyes I was like hell yeah. I like the damage. It looks really cool. I use him a lot now.

He talked a bit about Sidonis but didn't say where he was or anything, does that count as starting the quest?

Wait until loyalty missions open up later in the game. You have to recruit the first set of 4 party members, then do the Illusive Man's mission before loyalty quests start appearing.

Thanks Image IPB. Anyone else who made Garrus paragon in ME1 a bit disappointed? I went through all the trouble to steer him towards being less "the ends justify the means" only to have him go vigilante anyway. Is there any appreciable difference?

Nope. The way I imagine it is when you originally die, he loses his closest friend and mentor. Unable to cope with the feelings of loss, he decides to take his aggression out on the scum of the Terminus Systems. His coping mechanism ends up turning him into a total badass, and everyone wins.

I gotta wonder if the voice actor thought his character had been taken in a weird direction.

Paragon shep is gone and he ends up going vigilante. When shep comes back you can turn him back to "the light" imo in his loyalty mission. Don't let him kill the other Turian. He thanks you for it later and I think (this isn't backed up with dialog because his dialog options disappear more or less after that) he is starting to come around to your side of doing things (due process, ask questions then shoot, that kinda thing).

This is the way I saw it. My Paragon Garrus is still in there, otherwise he wouldn't have picked the scummiest part of the universe to go and save people. Obviously he wasn't just doing it for kicks, or they wouldn't have given him that nickname. He was just hurting, and that's why he skirted so close to the Renegade edge. Your Paragon has to pull him back, remind him who he was.

And if his angst means he turns into freaking Batman in the meantime, all the better.
