certainly not as exploitive as "strong independent woman who don't need no man" going around everywhere like a bikini model.

 

Also, strong is boring. Superman is strong. action heroes from the 80s are strong. Strong is boring, and people only care about these type of characters for the explosions and fight scenes. Walter White is an egotistical, uncharismatic man. Sherlock isn't strong, Doctor House isn't half as clever as he thinks he is, and the list goes on... none of them are completely bad at what they do, but they have plenty of flaws.

 

So yeah, I think damsels in distress make the best characters.
