Does anyone know what this figure would be?
Platinum equivalent of 990 shields?

What is special about 990 on gold?
There are several units that can do more damager per shot than 990.

I checked the enemy damage chart and found out that banshee does 980 damage per warp (incl. DOT).
If that's where the 990 number comes from, then the equivalent number for platinum would be 1180 (Plat banshee warp does 1176 damage).
Edit: Numbers are from Cyonan's chart.

I'd like to know this as well. It seems one of those oft repeated headknowlege tips that is actually almost useless.

425 is the best value for shields/barriers on gold, anyway.

Well, I read it here. I am not sure if it is a valid soft cap or not, but do you guys know of a better one?

anything above 1 feels pretty much the same to me unless you reach a ridiculous amount ala the puggernaut, or are playing a kit that can stack a lot of DR like the krogan (especially the Proguard).

That's not true.
990 will help you survive a prime or phantom shot, but not a nemesis, atlas, GRT, scion shot. They all od way more than 990.

Think it comes from being able withstand 3 ravager shots. Since they shoot in bursts of 3.

Yeah but 250 is better because only Drell have 250/425 ![]()

Scion and Prime shots render your shields useless. You might as well do a solo with no shields.

I'm not even sure if that 990 number takes into account the 40% damage taken penalty you get from being out of cover, but that article certainly seems to ignore that it exists. If it does apply, you aren't surviving an extra hit from anything on gold. Primes do 805*.40= 322. 805+322= 1127. Phantoms, Atlases, Banshees, Ravagers and Scions all do more damage per shot than primes.
An easy way to test this would be to take a full fitness femquarian or salarian with no cyclonics (990 shields) and compare it to a no fitness build with a cyclonic 3 (thus 1200 shields) and intentionally get shot by a gold prime. I'm not volunteering.

The point is that it is a number that is not unreasonable to reach that will save you a good deal of shield gates. Of course some enemies will still gate you instantly, but that can't be helped.
Either way, thanks for the data.

I wondered the same actually.

I don't notice a difference between 980 and 990.
I do notice a difference when I'm playing something with 500 and something with 1000. (On platinum)

And yes, when I say banshee's plat warp damage is 1176, it doesn't take the 40% damage into account. So, when not in cover, it's more than 1176.
You can use Cyonan's chart in resource lib. for more info.

That article is likely based on Cyonan's spreadsheet, which includes the 40% out of cover thing already.

Thought I recently survived 3 shots on a max fitness Salarian? Or it was a Quarian Male? ... Still waiting on FQE to make me a sandwich on PS3. ![]()
EDIT - wait, Shield Booster 3 Gear is my best Gear, lol.

You sure?
That spreadsheet says banshee warp on plat does 1176 damage incl. DoT.
I tested it with my smashdept (3 fitness + cycl. IV = 1300+ barriers) and a banshee warp on plat shield gated me without the DoT.

I said likely, so no, I'm not sure ![]()
And if you tested it, I guess it's settled.

I really want to know this now, but I don't want to burn a respec card on a suboptimal full fitness build.
I guess I could deploy one of the salarians with a silly build. At least they can have 40% DR from stolen Energy Drain, so fitness makes a bit more sense on them.
