Which, luckily, means nothing to the larger community. Death has some very clearly defined parameters, which the Tranquil do NOT live up to. So the Rite is not an execution.

I do think Tranquil are people, it's just not something I would wish upon anybody except those who asked for it (and even then I'd want them to go through some therapy first).

Or maybe they could make it a pill like Oregon (I literally only heard about this yesterday).

No brain activity, no heartbeat, no breath. At least as regarding to humans in our world, are the commonly agreed upon definition of death. Tranquil has all three, and can therefore not be regarded as dead.

True, it is a horrible fate. Worse than death if you ask some. Doesn't mean that they aren't alive though, which is the point I am making.

No it isn't. There's no more you, that would think like that, and every tranquil person says the fate is nice.

Was it? To me the context didn't suggest thus. I thought she was talking about the Tranquil she was looking after. And even if so it still suggests that they lack will, certainly lack enough of it to stop abuse.

You do realize that there are plenty of people who don't stop abuse with emotions? Couple that with the Tranquil knowing if they report said abuse there will most likely be consequences against them more than the offender makes it pretty obvious why they don't report any of it.

Yes but I was under the (possibly mistaken) impression that some people fail to stop abuse precisely because of their emotions, they are dedicated to their abuser for emotional reasons. By definition Tranquil don't have emotions, their primary concern should be their own well being but you've got me about consequences (though I'm not exactly sure what other consequences the Templars could inflict upon a Tranquil besides death, maybe more beatings?).

But if you think about Paramond, he didn't seem to have much will (when he was still Tranquil that is).
