I think Blackwall would wear tighty whities or plaidweave boxers. I don't think he would be that creative unless he was trying to be sexy. And with all that fur, does he even need to try?

Well, a few weeks ago, he called me into his office (very quietly) to ask me to clear his browsing history before sending his computer to IT for virus removal, so I'd say we're good. But it was amusing talking about the statistics of a recent experiment with some guy in a fur coat dancing in the background.
On topic: Varric wears soft cotton boxer briefs. He's got his own sense of style, yes, but when it comes to something he expects no one will ever see, I think he'd opt for comfort over fashion.

And I agree with you on Varric. If he wore boxers with his chubby legs he would keep a constant wedgie. He would have to wear some form of brief.
