Uh huh...so you're saying that without using what you may consider the one spec to rule them all, I am somehow not playing the AW "correctly"? If so, shame on you. It is because of comments like yours that I keep coming back to this thread. In the comment you quoted, I was simply stating a potential reason for the difference in performance between my AW and DrKilledbyDeath's. We play AW differently since I use Spirit Blade, while he does not; that's it.

If my interpretation of your post was incorrect, my bad. If it wasn't, then...yes, it is best that you leave this thread be, as that kind of mentality is unseemly.

I really don't get this love for fade step. I can understand it on necro, she does not have skills, just walking bomb.
I see quite often ele with fade step, AW is pretty much 90% of them, keepers with fade step. For me it's just dash move...I don't need to run away, I can just cover behind corner if need.

As for the AW, after few attempts for builds after nerf, for now best setup for me is CL, SF, FC and SB. PotA and my previous more aggressive style need to go away.
Still PotA has some serious problem sometimes. Dragon babies just flicker around like mad and always end up on someone ass. Because of it mostly choice was easier to not take PotA.

With the upgrade it's godly on the AW. Free barrier, with some damage and dodging ability, all thrown into one. Speaking of Fade Step, of course.

I would choose CL over this always. I have no need for "dodging" whatever you called it. I have walls.
And Fade step can't hit target on tower. And give low barrier when not huge number of targets. For CL I need 2 targets to get full barrier.
Even shocked vs chill...

You are looking at it the wrong way. All of us that use fade step also use chain lightning, you aren't swapping them out. We remove SB because it sucks and use FS because it has a low cooldown, no mana cost, hits as many targets as we step through, chills them, closes gaps and escapes bad situations. SB does....... You say you have walls to dodge, AW don't need to use LoS. You stand out in the middle of everyone and do so much damage you don't get hurt.

Yeah.

So this round on the Arcane I was going CL, FC, SF, SB until around 15 or so where I switched out CL for Frost Step.  So my powers were Frost Step, Cloak, Stone Fist, Sprit blade.  I am not feeling it.  The main reason is SB seems poor compared to CL against Venatori and Templar.  Against demons at least they don't block, and the Wraiths don't do huge damage.

You give me math to show why SB is better than FS.

Edit: I don't actually want to see your math. Imagine if we were fighting to the death, you are using a knife (SB) and I am using a gun (FS). You can go on and on about how mathematically you have the better weapon but anyone with any sense knows you don't bring a knife to a gun fight.

You give me math to show why SB is better than FS.

than FS? Why would you compare it with FS???

Spirit Blade

1- Spammable (indefinitely with PotA or SF)

2- Effective DPS = 3 swings / 2.5s = 900% / 2.5s = 360% dmg/s

3- AoE

4- Repels arrows

5- Bonus damage against guard or barrier

Fade Step

1- 12s cooldown

2- Effective DPS = 300% / 12s = 25% dmg/s

3- AoE

4- No invincibility against arrows (only melee attacks)

5- No bonus damage against guard of barrier

I'm not even sure if you're trolling or not

BTW, that's besides the point. You said SB sucked and gave no valid reason. So that's what I want you to explain. Why does SB suck?

Why would I compare it with SB? Because I removed SB to use FS, duh.

You want to try to prove SB is a better move? Factor in every change in a build due to using SB and not using SB. Add in how often I am able to use SF, CL and FC due to having the exta mana and lower cooldowns from using auto attack. Factor in how SB only hits an arc in front of you where as with FS I can hit every single target near me if I control it properly. Factor in that I don't need to deflect arrows because I sustain high enough damage to never lose my shield. Factor in that I can chill the enemies near me with FS. Go figure out that math.

^Aren't the builds you two run these: Fade Cloak, Fade Step, Stone Fist and Chain Lightning vs FC, FS, SF and CL the damage comparison needs to be between CL and Blade in that instance, not FS and Blade.

The main interesting bit is that a chain using just CL, FC and SF is basically self sustaining indefinitely and seems to more reliably generate barrier.

I guess I didn't pay close enough attention to the patch notes, but I thought when they reduced the damage to guard and barrier it was down to 1x.  What is the multiplier now?

SF and CL is self sustaining without the FC. FC and FS I use as much defensively as I do offensively. When a shadow pops up behind you and FC is on cooldown, SB is not going to save your life. FS will though.

So I should use fade step instead of SB because I should play like moron out in the open?
Even for that style I think that projectile reflect is better. And bonus guard damage. And barrier damage. And spirit damage as in general.

I see those AW's with fade step all days. They struggle to survive running around like morons from one group of archers to another trying to "tag" anything on sight with fade step.
I can kill all those enemies faster, easier with huge margin on defense side just by moving not that much around and avoiding some archers.
When something is close to me, I don't want to dogde it, I have tools (FC and SB) to blow them up. If they are in long range I can make them come to me. So what the point of fade step?

They really need to nerf barrier. Ppl playing mages are just so much careless that it's just hurts.

Your arguement is that "morons" use FS and are out in the open and die. I fight out in the open, I use FS and I don't die. This shows your whole point is invalid. So why do you insist to try and convince me that it doesn't work better than SB?

Some short lag, some unlucky stagger, some knockdown, some trolling from dragon and you get your ass kicked.
Plus this fighting in open is stupid, you waste tons of dps potential from party members.

+
tell on which min level your AW build works? Mine on level 10 is perfectly viable for anything.

Short lag, unlucky stagger, knockdown, dragon, those can affect you as much as me, so it makes the whole comment invalid.

I'm not talking about AW in specific party builds I am talking about the AW by itself, so again invalid.

Minimum level, I don't know maybe 12 or 13. The fact yours is viable at 10 has more to do with the fact you start with SB and don't need any levels to get it. This also doesn't factor in how high your promotions are, so yet again invalid.

This is like talking to a brick wall.

You are dead by this because as you said you in in the open. Archers shoots at you, melee mobs slap your ass with swords. Fade step isn't a CC cleanse or break stun, only fade cloak is.

Solo play even less I need fade stop, nobody screw my LoS with stupid running around.

For me min level is most important. Faster I'm useful and can go perilous the better.
I don't have high promotions, 30/45/30.

Maybe brick wall but you pretty much argue that stupid tactic rambo style is a way to play AW. Even If you want aggro mobs and take role of tank as AW (which I do) I would choose LoSing and walls every time. Why? Because running to me archers don't shoot at ppl.
CL and SF used on archers in distance can aggro them. After that I can easily just los them by minor move and make them change position.

You are probably that type of AW which I hate the most. Charge, always first, always just break tactic and waste opportunity for better clear. All you do with this type of gameplay is to make ppl angry. You cause mobs to spread out because you are in the middle, and because of that you gimp aoe and cc effects.

I can understand why DrKilledbyDeath chose the spec that he uses, but he does come off as looking down on the Spirit Blade skill, as if it shouldn't be taken, ever, due to the supposed inferiority of Spirit Blade in comparison to Fade/Frost Step. Though if that really is how he feels, then using that thought process, Spirit Blade should be buffed to make it as desirable as Fade Step. How about a nice, cool, mana cost reduction to Spirit Blade, to the tune of fifteen mana per swing? :D

Yarp, do you watch every game I play? I am not dead because you determine I am dead. How many times do I have to tell you that I do not die fighting out in the open. SB isn't a cc cleanse either so how is it a valid point?

I am 22/32/30, so mine is a build that can be used with average promotions. The fact you have a preference to what level you can do perilous has nothing to do with this entire conversation. It doesn't make FS less useful because you want to go perilous faster. If I was 30/45/30 maybe I can go into perilous at 10 and have 0 issues.

So people get mad when I stand there in the open taking all the agro and they can pick people off 1 by 1? Sorry, I should let everyone get a chance to be an arrow pin cushion.

Guess what, my "stupid tactic rambo style" IS a way to play AW because it works. You not liking it doesn't change how easily it is to clear waves with it. People want to use SB, go for it, but if you have lower promotions, the build I am using is most likely a better option.

You charge in, mobs just spread out, they AI is made that way, they will dance around the target and spread out.
So instead of stacked group of mobs ready to kill it's just random piece of running in circle enemies.
Waste of CC, aoe damage and tactical approach.

Maybe if your tactic involve using PotA it would be great but without it not that much.

I had SB and transitioned to SF in my build, which is pretty much what he has, but for selfish reasons: I LOATHE SB and I hated the AW class in general. Still do. I use it now because I really want to get me ALL the Dragon weapons, and I have too limited time to screw around. AFter I get what I want I`ll take my funny Legio for a spin and see if I can tank Perilous without Shield Wall.

Second reason is that, with that build, the AW is an awesome ranged tank, which can be mighty useful against Archers :) . That`s how I play it, anyway - park somewhere then start CL + SF until everything dies - rinse and repeat.
