It depends. I can easily play Broken Sword or Resident Evil, but I can't manage to pick any female hero in Duel of Champions game.

I'm sure protocol says that I should pick an answer to my own poll, but being the first one to vote is nerve-wracking. I really have to think about it, since I will temporarily represent 100% of the votes.

Where is the "my aim is irrelevant because I get to look at Miranda's ass" choice?

Hmm. Good point. I feel remiss.

My WoW main is a female. Best tank you'll ever play with.

I don't particularly care. If it's a narrative-heavy game with a character creator, I'll play a male as my canon, since it's more or less me. If the game has a set protagonist, their gender is irrelevant to me. Mirror's Edge and the Tomb Raider reboot are 2 of the better games from the last console generation.

If the game lets you choose, but the choice doesn't really have any bearing on anything, I'll play both. I main a male orc in WoW, and have several female alts (I'm leveling a female orc shaman right now, and just created a female blood elf warlock, in addition to already having a female pandaren monk and female blood elf paladin). I play a female demon hunter in Diablo 3, and I spent most of time on Gears of War 3's multiplayer playing as Samantha Byrne about as much as I was playing the Carmine brothers.

If the character is interesting and I like the way they look, I'll play as them, regardless of gender. A space marine in power armor or a sexy woman, both are okay (double points if it's a sexy woman in power armor, like in Gears 3 multiplayer).

If the creators don't try to aggressively shove a message about gender issues down my throat, I'm cool with playing female characters.

Tomb Raider reboot FTW.

I said it in another thread, but given a choice I'll make a female PC. If it's a set protag, doesn't really matter then.

I don't really mind one way or the other. I typically play as a male character since that's who I can relate to, but if I have to play as a female character, then so be it. There really does need to be more strong female protagonists in the gaming industry though. I mean I like Lara Croft and Faith, but there definitely needs to be more.

It's good that someone finally created a serious thread to discuss a highbrow subject such as this one.

If its a set protagonist, I don't care. Male or female works for me;I want the character to be awesome.

If there's a choice I can go either way though I've found that the last few years I've tended to lean towards choosing female protagonists simply to switch things up from usually playing males.

I prefer female protagonists... mainly due to the fact i can relate to them easily, than men and that there is a serious lack of them in games (as protagonists) so if a woman is announced as protagonist, my interest will go to the said game instantly.

Hence why i'll always prefer games with gender options... I just wish there were more games like this instead of games with a set protagonist who almost always will be male.

Also, bewbs.

If there's one thing that I'm known for, it's serious intellectual discussions. Or my long-standing hate-feud with Johnny Knoxville. It's definitely one of those two things.
