In my opinion, Mass Effect one and three possess the best versions of the Normandy.
Definitely. The lighting conditions are far more atmospheric.

There are Skyrim mods too for lighting!
Lighting is one of the graphical aspects that has received a lot of focus lately when it comes to new gaming engines. Just look at The Witcher 3's dynamic lighting system. That game runs a day/night cycle as well.
I think from a realism, atmosphere & immersion POV i'd love to have day & night cylces. Like it'd be cool to have to certain planets with longer day/night cylces and some with shorter. Im thinking the cylces could affect how the gameplay plays out on missions too, so like depending at what time you start a mission the gameplay possibilities would different or something. Plus on the urban sci-fi city worlds(assuming thy have those. They better have, i loved me some Omega, Zakera Ward & Ilium from ME2) the npcs having routines corresponding to those cycles etc. Though at the sametime as much as it would neat to have that level of hyper realism I think it could be very resource heavy and i think they're a fair few more important things bioware should focus on. Still despite thinking its not reall needed.. day & night planets/areas would be a welcome addition.
I'd also love to see planets have thier own different geographical(ie not all of them just a barren rocky place or flat plain), and especially gravity & atmospheric makeups. So im thinking like the Mako would work on some planets, but not on others as a result of this. That's why i want the HammeHead and the Kodiak shuttle included too. In terms of immersion it'd be better & more believable/fun.
I hope we're not in one place long enough for it to matter. I'd love to see the sky get darker (in a scripted fashion) over the course of a mission but driving around big open landscapes looking for things to do gets boring after a while. I'm reminded of that every time I load up Skyrim.
Dude lots of open-world (or in Mass Effect's case open-galaxy) RPG games has day and night cycles. Yes, you can go from one planet that is blistering hot in the day time to a planet that that's freezing cold in the night. It makes sense and it wouldn't break the game or the bank. Conceptual prototype showed the planet progressing through on the day...

I don't hate the idea. It would be a nice touch. I just don't think I would miss it if it weren't there. I don't really like very rapid day/night cycles (set on earth sized planets) where one rotation equals 30 minutes because you have to speed up time to show it. Obviously you're not going to wait ~24hours but two sunrises in an hour is too much. Even if the planet is small enough for that to be realistic, you have the issue of gravity which would be really very low and hard to implement convincingly.
