I feel the movie was vastly overrated. I would give it around 6/10. It had a lot of impressive action but it became very repetitive. There was virtually no plot, quite poor dialogue, no humor, no depth of emotion since the characters were so undeveloped. The entire movie consists of a single car chase with some pretty crappy logic at the end. There was nothing particularly clever about it. It wasn't bad as it was easy enough to watch, I just don't understand why so many people are raving about it. It is not a memorable movie.

"And damn, call me crazy, but Charlize Theron has never been more gorgeous!"
Are you kiddin' me? You should watch more of her movies if you think that is the 'hottest' she's ever been. L0L

How can it perform so poorly at the box office?
Over hype on the Internet.
Still the majority don't like a movie about dirty punks with weird cars chasing each other in a desert.
It seems this movie is a 7 or 8/10 at best. I won't silence myself until the ridiculous rottentomatos score (98%) diminish to about 75%!

Haven't watched the movie, but I imagine it may be like my experience where I really enjoyed Dredd, but chances are we'll never get a sequel due to poor sales (though a sequel sounds likely here since they apparently already have it planned).

Although RottenTomatoes isn't a judge of how good the reviewers thought the movie was, just what percentage of them thought it was good. If you thought it was a 7/10 movie yourself, you would be saying it is good. I'm not sure if I would give it a good or not good mark, its borderline to me.
I'm still very surprised though since to me it seems like somewhat of a niche film and so many of those same critics give films a not good rating, criticizing aspects of them which Fury Road does considerably worse. Is it to do with expectation? I went into Fury Road thinking it would be a big step up on the previous Mad Max films largely because it had been so positively reviewed, but came out wondering what the big deal was. Perhaps those same reviewers thought it was better than they expected so gave it a good mark?

So my brother went to see this movie, and he said the reveal of who mad max was in the film, as well as therons involvement in the films first part, was good. He didn't keep up with any of the trailers or internet information and went into the film cold, and said it was good, insane, and the most memoriable part was that the main bad has a electric guitar player on command to play him guitar rifts, like a human playlist.
I take it this wasn't the case for the rest of you?

I liked it a lot. And I've seen the other films many times before. I will agree that it's not "the greatest action movie ever made". But as far as summer block busters go I think it's great. Most fun I've had at a movie in a long time at least. Guitar guy was fricken hilarious and awesome.

Your brother is right. I just saw the film and it is extraordinary full of gonzo imagery and just relentless action and momentum. 9 or 9.5 out of 10 for me.
And The Good The Bad and The Weird is also an excellent film.

Its a balls to the wall action film what do you expect? Have you seen the previous films? And it didn't manage to find some pathos, the sacrifice of various characters was quite moving.

I could watch the last 10 minutes of the Road Warrior over and over.
Is it anything like that?

The new mad max movie utterly destroys the old ones. Schadenfreude levels off the charts after skipping through this thread.

I've been planning to see it, but that's pretty bold.
Actually, I'm only really fond of the Road Warrior. I can see Mad Max being topped (and especially Thunderdome)..

I have to say, as a person of the right age I loved Mad Max but anyone could see it being topped *as a film* by a half-way serious attempt. It isn't the stunning cinematography that makes films of that sort fun... it is almost the opposite.
I'm NOT a fan of Mel's personal anti-semitism to say the least, but I think that generally you can't choose your art according to whether you approve of the lifestyle of the artist - I do see the medium as art even if that's considered low-brow.
Apocolypto: Pretty good, maybe racist
Passion of Christ: so very very bad
I liked Apocalypto. It isn't racist, but it does have some serious pacing issues.
Is the Passion actually bad? It is not a mass market film. It is spoken of quite highly in some circles.

Needs flamethrowers and machine guns obvs, but other than that, that's a perfect stylish ride for any post-apocalyptic badlands imo.

I think it's great, too - said pacing issues suggest to me that he may have better work in him.
I think it probably does a creative good to be unusual or even mad in some way, and I don't think you have to agree with someone on everything/anything to enjoy their art. I'm sure all gifted creatives have lifestyles and/or beliefs that differ from some of their fans'.
