To me there are 2 types of feminists, radical and those that actually believe its about equality.

Mad max isn't a radical feminist movie, its an awesome movie about trucks.

It can be considered a moderate feminist movie in that they have a tough girl, old women, and show women as being something other than just existing for men. In fact it is the first action movie in a while where a woman was allowed to be feminine and caring, like one of the girls were to Nux. Also they killed quite a few women off too, so it at least challenges the idea that girl lives are worth more than boy lives.

Girls and guys get to be cool and awesome in an action movie is the moderate feminist view of a feminist action movie.

But that's been done before. Terminator has a woman who can kick ass, so does Aliens. Neither I would consider feminist movies of any type. To me these movies are just action films with no agenda whatsoever. Mad Max was no different.

And thats how many people felt about Terminator and Alien too. Moderate feminism isn't necessarily an 'agenda" its just wanting to see women in similiar roles and see them like that. As I said 2 very different viewpoints. Many things are considered feminist that never tried to be, because moderate feminists like that they are shown as women, and many shows/movies just do it naturally. The fact something has to have an agenda to be considered feminist is missing a lot of moderate view points. Its like saying there has to be an agenda to have something kid-friendly outside children's movies. There isn't, but parents notice when something is.

A lot of people consider Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor to be feminist icons.

Anyway, I suppose what's different about Mad Max is that Charlize Theron isn't the only badass female character in the movie.

I was pleasantly surprised with Mad Max.  They didn't let plot get in the way of the action and I really liked the portrayal of women in the movie and the number and variety of female characters.  I didn't have any expectations going in, but right after the movie, my husband I talked about how nice it was to see women taking a central role in a blockbuster for a change.  I left feeling like it was a very positive movie for women.  If something has "an agenda" people will argue that it dominates that project and detracts from it.  Sometimes a subtle shift in perspective does more to impact the general public than a giant in-your-face statement that forces people to polarize and dig in.

I think no one would have said anything if the movie producers stayed quiet and didn't brought up feminism into the equation. The issue is not that people are against woman in major roles in movies, but that feminism as a whole has developed a very negative view from society. Take terminator and alien. These are very sucessful movies with little controversy. But they also never mentioned feminism in any way when they came out in the theathers. Now Mad max did mentioned feminism and that caused all sorts of issues.

Why is that the case?  Seriously, I'm asking.  I've really noticed that around here on these boards and I thought maybe it was just an internet pocket and have tried to ignore it, but I guess it's more pervasive than that, and I've completely missed it.  When did feminism become a bad thing?

When feminists forgot what feminism was about. We see that with the "radical online feminists" who generalize against men and try to make any issue into a topic about sexism.

The only thing worst than these radical online feminists for me are the "menists" who talk about hitting the radical feminists or who think men have it worst than women. They also seem to be real misogynists and are often fat neckbeards. I've been fortunate enough to never have met any of these people from both groups in real life.

When most people here talk about "hating feminism" though I think they're referring to the radical form from the feminists who hate men rather than the actual premise of feminism - equal rights for women.

When the third wave started. I won't talk for others. As this is my opinion, but from what I saw, it seems my opinion is shared by many.

The problem is that feminists as of late turned into a bunch of judgmental impossible to please bigots, masquerading their bigotry with the fight for gender equality. They shut down any argument by declaring others sexist (usually man), demand equality (when what they truly want is superiority), without having to take any of the setbacks that come with said equality. I'm not very eloquent to be honest, but my point is that feminism became an movement about entitlement, man hating, censoring and never ending whining.

That makes me feel better.

Every group has a radical segment that's gone full crazy, for the most part we don't judge everything by it's worst elements.  I mean, not all Christians belong to Warren Jeffs's Fundamentalist LDS church.

And this makes me feel sad.  I don't think you are by any means alone in this point of view though.  Or that's the impression I've gotten lately.

Not all feminists are what you've described.  In fact, I'd argue the majority doesn't fit that.  The radical feminist element that EP referenced isn't all there is.  Those women don't represent me or my entire gender/sex.  To say that the entire movement has now become entitlement and man-hating is a misrepresentation.  Maybe this subset is the most vocal, but we wouldn't say that Islam is a religion that has become all about violence, terror, and hatred of the west just because ISIS has a large platform to speak from (at least I hope we wouldn't).

Third wave feminism isn't inherently bad.  I mean, it brought us riot grrrl bands, what's not to love?  Improving the living situation for women all over the world, not just white American housewives, is a decent, if lofty goal.  Reducing incidences of genital mutilation is a good thing.  Preventing sexual violence benefits potential victims regardless of gender.  Including trans* people in the movement for gender equality promotes inclusion and provides a wider perspective on gender issues.  Some individuals may take things to extremes, or use undesirable methods in making their points, but to write off feminism as entitlement, man-hating, censoring, and whining does a disservice to feminists everywhere.

Sorry.  That wasn't about Mad Max.  Here, have a awesome picture of Charlize Theron and her prosthetic arm.

You know that "meninists" aren't a real thing right? "Meninism" is a spoof movement that is a mirror of feminism. It takes feminist arguments and changes the word women to men and vice versa. It's basically turning radical feminist arguments on their head to show how silly they are, and how nobody would take them seriously if anyone else but feminists said them. The whole thing started as a twitter joke.

There are men's rights groups like the MRM and offshoots like MGTOW but they're completely unrelated to "meninism."

Not all, no. But not all men are rapists or sexist neither, yet, it doesn't stop feminists from generalizing them as such. The feminists are certanly at fault for not silencing their radical elements. For the irony is, my opinion towards woman became a lot more negative once I was exposed to feminism. Before that, I never had any ill feelings toward the gender, neither I saw them as lesser.

And third wave feminism is obsolete. What do they hope to achieve? That men sit better on the metro? Any matter an woman want to discuss should be taken to the law, no? Do we see groups made by robbery victims? Or people that were kidnappened? I don't see the need for an particular group to be made. The ideology will aways be the same, but the group changes, it becomes corrupt, complacent, harmful. Feminism wasn't the first and won't be the last.

I'm so tired. So very tired. This discussion. It changes nothing, the  end result is aways the same. There is no point. Feminists will aways feel justified, men will never accept them, and in the end, the gap between the gender only widens more and more.

I love this movie!

As for SJW included so called feminist, they are 21 century witch hunt. They are more interested in pushing their political agenda rather than investigate possible solution for real issues.

That's fine.  We don't have to have this discussion.

But don't write off half the world's population too soon.  You shouldn't let your opinion of few, specific, vocal individuals negatively impact your opinion of all women.

You mean it wasn't automatically given to her the moment the game went into development?

She'd probably do a great job actually.

But the thing is when the average 3rd waver says to a egalatarian or a AVfM member feminism is for men. ask them how.

you tend to get a mummbled.. well we think they need to be more like the Master race.

Honestly look at the false statistics like the 1in5. now the real SDC statistic is 6 in 1000 whitch is still a travesty but that wint sell as well as the 1 in 5.

now think about this. an i mean seriosly think about this. in a school or town of say 5000 ans 1000 people are even simplt being pickpoketed do uou seriosly think no one will do anything?

now if those 1in5 rates were true. NO ONE would sent there Daughters to school hell no schools would be oppen.

if 1 to 2 thousand women were raped per year.

the thin that gets me it this new trend of turning Everything into an attack apparently they want to turn being attractive to a woman in to Rape on and being hard to get. so if She finds you Attractive and you play hard to get.. go to jail.

Now im in no way saying all X is like that. but if men cant defend themselves whith that... yeah.

honestly i know a lot of realy cool Female advocasts but they need to stand up to the loud mouthed idiots who tend to insult other women and give Feminisem a bad name like it has these days.

yeah you oppresive Gramer Nazi. i tried to alter it but i can't.

any way like i said before this was more about the Feminist name being stamped on the movie.

Now we can all agree both sides use Hyperboly "Wumin were Chattle" "Men died while Wumin just sat an' ate bon bons all day."

Now both sides have merit and there Crazies. look at Adria Dworkin and Valery Selanis.

and these are Heroes to some of the radicals. now to me those are feminists in name only. its like the WBC being toated as the True face of Christians everyware. or i dont know Ted Bundy being the face of America.

to me feminism is a womans Advocasy Group. but it has been corupted by Misandristic idealogues who are more intrestrd in getting power and welth by controleing narritives and instilling Fear and useing the Anatomy of disgust.

they depower women and Dehumanise men.

women are Frigile little flowers and Men are Brutish pigs.

to me feminism was the wendy the welder or Wonderwoman. but these days its more the men iz evil.

now i do not beleve all Feminist are Misandrists but i have rarely seen any stand up to the Radical idiots. and thos i have seen have been Visciosly attacked.

And peacefull gatherings to dicuss male suicide rates are greeted with Hateflled protests.

in almost ashamed to have once called myself a feminist.

i used to see myself as an equil not an inferior not a superior. but as someone who would do the Dirty jobs and make no excuses.
