I wanted to say Dredd, but that was a remake of a 1995 movie.
Dredd isn't a remake any more than The Amazing Spider-Man is a remake of the 2003 version.

I was looking forward to this film, & now... still looking forward to it. Story elements don't bother me, but I will see how I feel after watching it. In the original film men and women were equally at risk of rape, I remember a cringey scene of butthurt. So I don't think it's too far out of the series setting.
I was worried about the premise of this when I learned it was about the bad guy getting his harem back. That's not a great starting point for a story.
"THEY"RE MY PROPERTY!"
I expect some hamfisted preaching here.
It's probably cause female lead gains emotional strength through some bullshit, calm your **** down.
Mad Max borderlines on degrading women. It wont go feminist
Eh, whatever. People already deciding that it's not worth watching based on what someone says. Gotta watch it and see what it's like. Though I wasn't impressed when I heard that the story is gonna be about on Max taking a bunch of slave girls to safety, I'm gonna stay optimistic and hope that there's more to it. At least it's not a PG 13 movie. That would have been way worse than some supposed feminism preaching.
I was waiting for a you don't want an HJ from Furiosa joke but I guess I had to do it myself.
Action films will never, ever. NEVER. Be as fun, as good or awesome as they were in the 80s and early 90s. The exception being every now and then you get a great Asian Action film like the Raid or a great Keanu Reeves throw back like John Wick. But for the most part, Hollywood main stream action movies are BAD. I think Mad Max will be more of the same. Boring, over done, over choreographed, tons of shaky cam, and lots of CGI. But it's got like 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, so maybe it's good or maybe it's just more neo-liberal media promoting feminist ideas or want to have a R rated action movie do really well at the box office. To be honest the movie wasn't on my radar to begin with. Reboots are, for the most part, lame and dumb and just cash in. Also, Tom Hardy will never be as good as Mel Gibson. Mel Gibson is an action icon and just.... Well he's just Mad Max.
there was Mad Max reboot?
glad i was spared the news and the movie... i think.
lol, all these reviews are saying it's like "one of the greatest action films ever made". I doubt it. Really, I do. The Raid 2 is probably better, but hey, that's just me. I'll see this on the weekend and keep my mind open. But... I have a HIGH standard when it comes to action films. So high that even classics like Predator or First Blood wouldn't be in my top 5..... So, if this is really "the greatest action movie EVAR!" or whatever then it has the Hard Boiled, Die Hard, The Raid 2, The Matrix, Terminator 2 Mountain and peaks to climb..... We'll see.....
The hype is astronomically high and real with this film I scrolled down on RT reviews and there were tons of critics saying it's the "greatest ever" and "best film of 2015" and so on and so on. So I'm expecting a lot. And if it doesn't deliver then I will be sorely disappointed. The last action movie that was getting these amazing type of reviews was the Raid 2 and it did deliver and I thought exceeded. So, it does happen. But..... I kinda am getting Hollywood shill vibe from the Mad Max reviews thus far. Can't wait to find out on Friday if it's worthy of the hype and praise thus far.
I'll likely check this movie out on cheap ticket Tuesday next week, as long as it's bat**** crazy I'll enjoy it.
No Robocop or Dredd in that small list of yours? But The Matrix makes it?
Bruh. Really?

Robocop top 20, Dredd was underrated and solid but not iconic or great. Good tho.
Top 5 would probably be-
HardBoiled
The Matrix
T2
The Raid 2
Die Hard
Honorable mention is probably Aliens or maybe Dirty Harry. Dirty Harry tho is more of a crime thriller to be honest tho, so I don't know if it counts.
Yeah, having watched The Matrix again recently, that movie has not aged particularly well both ideologically, and as a piece of entertainment.
Mostly because the idea of using humans as batteries is stupid. Really, really stupid.
Especially after the explanation the Animatrix gives. Which that whole sequence is a long line of stupidity anyway.
one of the greatest? hardly.
but it's one of very few postapocalyptic movies that isn't painful to watch.
i mean... if you show something ridiculous - make fun of it, emphasize, replace moping with badassery. if you don't, you'll end up being Kevin Costner.
Well, if he's wrong and has credibility he will be losing it with that review.

I'm not necessarily going to disagree with your criticism of modern action films, but I can't really agree with the praise for 90s and 80s films. I mean, the Arnie/Chuck/Van Dame, etc. line of movies were just ridiculously cheesy, besides IMO not really having great action.
As to RT, well, the movie Drive had a phenomenal rating and I think it was the worst and most confusing piece of **** I've ever seen, so I tend to think when a show climbs over 90% it goes right back into **** territory. I find quality to be a bit of a reverse parabola.
As a general comment, I do find it interesting how basically no one seems to have read the interview, because what the movie is being described as being feminist for is really different than what people in this thread think it's actually going to try to be feminist about more or less. The article basically says:
1. The women who were, essentially, sex slaves eventually overcome their being victims through badass violence.
2. There are a lot of viscerally horrible scenes that show what it would really mean to have post-apocalyptic harems (the word milking farm is used).
3. Theron's character and Max don't hook up - they're just badass buddies.
I suppose you can call that "feminist" in the way that you can call Alien "feminist", but it's really a misnomer.

I read the interview.
a. I don't go to the movies for life lessons from pretentious Hollywood twits. This interview tells me that the movie is going to be as ham-handed as the anti-war and environmentalist pieces they try to sell as entertainment.
b. It's ridiculous that some starched professor is being paid money to advise on what life is like as a sex slave. The producers could read firsthand accounts if they wanted to make it realistic. Her role is obviously to make sure it's all sanitized and palatable to the tumblr set, who still will find something to complain about of course.
"Feminist action film" sounds like something they would make a terrorist watch from their cage in an orange jumpsuit, to make them talk.
Still who cares, Charlize Theron is hot.
