First one was too generic for me. 2 at least upped it with Jean-Claude Van Damne and giving Willis and Arnie more screentime.

oh yeah, totally forgot van damne was it it. and yeah. They did get nice screen time. To bad Willis got cut from the 3rd one. Guess that's what he gets for asking Stallone for more money. lel

I think you mean evil Johnny Cage :P

The third one wasn't too bad, Mel Gibson was a fun villain

Yeah. I never said which one is the best: 2

It had Chuck Norris too.

The best thing about 3 was Mel Gibson!

Saw the movie, good. 8/10. Overrated tho and not worthy of they hype that all the critics are saying. It's not the "greatest action movie ever" lol. That's a joke in and of itself. I thought both The Raid 2 and John Wick were better action films as of late. But... it was very fun and entertaining and thank God there is a summer blockbuster that is very violent, not about giant robots or dumb superheroes, not a CGI fest,, and has heavy mental music in it. It's a nice change of pace from the typical mouth breathing GCI fests that dominate summer blockbusters now. It was very old school and I like that. I highly recommend it.

I'm wondering if that's part of why the critics are loving it as much as they are. Because of the change of pace from superhero flicks that dominated the BO the last 3-4 summers.

I can almost guarantee it. When it comes to movies reviews the critics tend to rate movies that deviate from the norm more so than, well, the norm.

Yes I think so. I think they're fatigued with all the CGI derpy super hero and giant robot PG-13 kiddie movies that have dominated summer blockbusters for the last 5 years or so.

Before I saw the film I kinda did a little action binge, On Friday I watched Hard Boiled and Aliens, on Saturday I watched Die Hard and the Matrix. Then I saw Fury Road, so I had a gauge to judge it against what I consider the titans of the action film genre and...... Well, it doesn't hold up to those. It's good. But not great.

It's being overhyped by critics because of what you said.

CGI super hero fatigue.

I don't know. Die Hard and The Matrix especially IMO are starting to show their age...

Then again I was never a huge fan of either series to begin with.

I'm just glad Max is back. Hopefully we get more.

Here is my question. For those of us who have seen the previous films and FR: Should someone not familiar with what Mad Max is. Watch the first three first then Fury Road?

Spoiler

Naw Die Hard is timeless. The CGI stuff in the Matrix is old but it was so fresh at the time and the gunplay and cinematography in the Matrix still holds up amazingly well today. The Lobby scene in the Matrix is one of the greatest action scenes/shootouts ever put on film. Top 5 easily.

Depends of what they are used for. For the kind of mayhem this movie has they really work much better than CG explosions.

Furiosa is more Ripley or Sarah Connor than the standard action girl we get nowadays. And it seems the old women did most of the action scenes themselves too.

My favorite action movie since Dredd.

Reinstalled Fallout original and feel like rereading Fist of the North Star.
