I like what it is and how it works, but I do have one question:

Why is the spawn point for the torch random?

The furthest I've had to go so far is to the back end of the second room in zone 4 of the Vint ruins, call me daft or something, but would it not make more sense to have the torch at the start of the zone?

They need to put a drufflao in mass effect mp. Get those geth infltrators out of their sniper perches.

I'm just curious because I have yet to see the veilfire objective since the DLC and patch dropped, which seems... weird. Yet, everything else is there and working - the new characters, new map, and dragons. But it's been the same ol' Assassinate Something/Recover Stuff/Don't Let Inquisition Dude Die objectives.

Veil fire only triggers in the original destinations. I felt it would be a bit cruel to allow it in the castle, especially since zones 2 & 4 on that map are so exposed to ranged attacks.

However, it can be easily enabled... maybe during a random weekend event?

Why is the spawn point for the torch random?

Each zone contains specifically tagged locations for certain "things" to spawn. The torch location is scripted to use the same random locations that are used for elements such as the escort NPC or the golden nug.

In adding the new event we essentially tap into the existing spawn locations in the levels. Adding new locations would require patching every single level instance that the event could occur in.

I tend to do this as well.

From the very first prototype of the event I made sure that it was still possible to solo the event by "holding your ground" around the torch when attacking. I also didn't want to force the torch holder to be unable to defend themselves if the need were to arise.

They do use the exact same spawn locations. In a few rare situations they are located further from the entrance than others, and unfortunately that cannot be changed at this time without patching all the zones. We may look into this in a future patch.

With the NPCs I believe that it might seem that they spawn closer in these zones because after a certain delay the NPC comes to the player party location (generally pulling the enemies with them).

The original characters don't have specific lines for picking up the torch so I just trigger the "come here" lines automatically when they grab the torch for the first time

I try to provide insight where I can on the systems that I am specifically responsible for creating or implementing.
