Not sure how to ensure the Devs see this, but if anyone agrees with the suggested change I'm about to write about please help me try to get this some serious consideration.
I think most players agree that the current armor system is a disappointment. I have every armor unlocked, but most are useless since we tend to use the highest armor rated ones even if we prefer the look of an earlier armor. Single player allows for armor crafting and use of crafting materials to change the armor rating, the look and colors of the armor. I do not see why we can't have something similar in the multiplayer.
- Unlock a base armor schematic, which has a default look and armor rating.
- These base schematics are used to craft new armors with crafting mats that can improve armor rating, and change the colors at least.
- Can keep the same base 4 armor looks, but anyone can chose which they like and then add armor rating and color of choice.
- Can salvage any crafted armor, but the base armors crafted cannot be salvaged just like inquisition weapons. (so can't be naked. lol)
- Possible crossover with the Black Emporium to multiplayer for the ability to better see your mp toon and what look you will get by crafting a new armor.
- This also frees up inventory space as currently all armor counts toward inventory cap, and this would eliminate at least half of that clutter.
In my experience most people who play a multiplayer game strive for some individuality in their characters, appearance being the most obvious and controllable. It is not as enjoyable to see another player or know that most players use the same look like we are all just a bunch of clones. In ME3mp there were no different armors, but there was over 50 colors to use, and the ability to use primary, secondary, patterns, and light colors. This allowed for a lot of individual looks and one of the reasons I think that the ME3mp experience is still one of the most loved today.
So while a full blown armor crafting system would be nice, I realize it is unlikely due to the added complexity, but I see no reason why we can't have some control over armor rating and color for base armor looks, which to me would require much less effort since the colors are already created in single player. There will always be things the player base want changed, but creating opportunities for individuality will keep people playing longer, and make other potential issues easier to deal with.
