MESSAGE POPULAIRE !

You don't get enough recognition for all your work through the games, the codex entries, the characters, the feels. I want to thank everyone who worked on this franchise so far, even though I don't know all of them by names I just want you to know that your writings are what made me come to this franchise in the first place and why I cherish it so much. Thank you for sharing your stories and thank you for making us a part of your imaginary world. Sure, there are people who will always complain, but it's alright. This franchise is huge and there are times when I understand why it's hard to make some choices for the following games and why it fits with the plots you are writing. Just know that as a fan, I am thankful you are still there working for BioWare and for the fans.

A special thank you to David Gaider who won't be the lead writer anymore but still managed to write some of the most appealing companions in all my video game experiences. Dorian, Alistair, Morrigan, and more, those characters all managed to touch my heart in their own ways and I feel lucky to have met those virtual characters as they are all part of one smart, funny and snarky soul out there. You got no idea how liberating it was for me to meet Dorian in Dragon Age Inquisition. I haven't experienced what Dorian went through, but it felt good to see that members of the LGBT community can be represented so well and not just through stereotypes. His relation with his father, while it wasn't similar to mine, reminded me how much I miss my own father who passed away in 2010.

It was right about the time I started playing DA2, to be honest and while some of the gloomy atmosphere from that game was way too depressing, it helped me coping with loss.

So yeah, thank you again DA team for allowing us in your world.

Another thank you thread? I guess this forum really needs these, what with all the stupid people. Especially in the Feedback and Suggestions section. Ew.

People rag on DA2, but most seem to forget that it would have been a far better game had EA given BioWare much more time to make it. Personally, I love all 3 games even for their flaws (minus the DA:I KB+M controls), and I don't find side quests monotonous in any of them. Certainly not in Inquisition, since it takes me well over 100 hours to complete the game.

Anyway, people need to quit b!tching about BioWare, calling it EAware (or whatever) and claiming it's like a Disney movie (though I did like the Disneyquisition thread where characters were compared to Disney ones), and either enjoy them, or not play them.

I hope Gaider leaving doesn't impact the franchise too much, but Weekes made at least 3 of the companions in Inquisition, and all of them are great characters so it'll probably be OK.

Here here.  I agree completly.  And right around the time DA I came out I was going through a really bad time in my life, sort of still feeling the after shocks of it even now.  But 'The Dawn Will Come', really kept me going and was a powerful reminder that hope still exists and the Dawn Will Come.  Also around the time All As One came out which had many of the same themes musically speaking.

Thank you for creating Cassandra Penthaghast.  Most characters still feel like characters to me in some way shape or form.  But to David Gaider Cassandra Pentaghast is, especially for a video game, one of the most real and fleshed out people I have ever run across.

And yes also to Dorian.  I did really apreciate, as someone of my political bent, that they did tackle the issue head on but portrayed in it in a realistic fasion without getting overly preachy about it.  It actually made me think about a few things in my own life and politics and again, felt just...real to me.  And as you said they did not descend into stereotypes or melodrama to do it.

Backed. The BSN can be such a toxic environment that I think threads like these are completely justified. I'm sure the devs know the majority of their fans value and appreciate the hard work they put in and the incredibly fun games they provide us with. But it doesn't hurt to remind them. Dragon Age (and Mass Effect while we're at it) has provided me with one of the most immersive and enjoyable experiences I've ever had playing video games. Thank you!

Funny, when DA2 came out I found it to be a great game with  a very real and appealing story of moral and ambition(refreshing not to see good vs evil) , and went online to discuss it, only to find out that very few shared this sentiment. Everyone hated it!

DA:I had a ton of work put into it. I hadn´t looked so forward to a game since Diablo 3, and while I definitely enjoyed my first playthrough, subsequent playthroughs quickly revealed how much of DA:I is empty space, a stereotypical villain and a meatless main story. And flowerpicking. But to be fair, I was expecting something along the lines of Final Fantasy 7/8 quality.

Is the writing good? I think that up to the point where skyhold is acquired, the writing is of a very high quality. The singing cutscene is excellent, and is probably the narrative highlight of the game. But it feels like they dropped the ball after corypheus is revealed, as he himself is bland, his motivation feels onedimensional, and there is no immediate sense of urgency or dread. Pity.

?? The DA games are just as well-written as the ME games. They both have their narrative faults (ME2 is an amazing game full of amazing characters that has the thinnest of thin story premises; DA2 is excellently written until the third act falls apart, no doubt due to time constraints), but DA definitely holds its own.

I agree. The characters in particular are awesome.

And special thanks to David Gaider for his work. Cassandra, Dorian, Alistair, and Morrigan are probably some of my favorite characters out of all games, not just DA.

So what? Just because I got ME3 in my badges doesn't mean I can't love DA games and it shouldn't invalidate my opinion on DAI and its predecessors. That type of reasoning you got there is just odd. ME3 was my least favorite game of the Mass Effect franchise, the Citadel DLC is the only thing that saved if from the mess it became by the end. Otherwise, ME2 remains my favourite game. And another surprise, I actually liked DA2 even though some people on these boards like to pretend I - and some of other fans - don't exist.

I feel that ME2 is the best game Bioware has done.  I like everything about it.  From the pacing to the story.  You are right on the thin story, but the mass of other content and character development makes add soooo much to the story.  The story can also stand on its own and that simplicity of it I think enabled them to make the amazing experience that was ME2.  I find ME2 to be MUCH more able to pull me in.

I will also agree that the writing to DA2 was good (at parts).  It was the other stuff that made that game bad.  Was it as good as ME2? Or any other ME for that matter?  Gonna have to give a big "negative"

Now, If you look at my name.  I was a huge on DA.  Why?  The Qunari and the Arishok.  Loved it!  The Qunari were just amazing and while a lot of big things were wrong with DA2 it still had good points.  Now look at DAI.  What they did to the Qunari in DAI was a sick joke.  They watered them down so much and literally "neutered" them.  I understand it's a set up for DA4.  I'm sure going "north" will be a big war between the now garbage "Qunari" and their "dreadnaughts" made out of paper against the "Vints" Until the Kossith or the *insert big baddie here* turned the world upside down and the game picks up.  The "watering down" of the Qunari set a tone of what that game was as a whole IMO.

I find DAI to be extremely shallow I have tried and tried to force myself through that game just to beat it 1 time.  It's impossible for me.  I find the characters extremely weak.  I don't really have anything in that game that grabs me and gives me any drive to play it.  I have never had that problem with a ME game.  I should also clarify that mainly I am speaking on DAI as being the worst....but still DAO and DA2 cannot hold a candle to the ME games.

To say the earlier DA can hold their own as a blanket statement.  Ok...I can see that.  vs ME it can't compare unless we are talking about DAO only.  I'm not saying the DA games are bad games...they are not (aside from DAI)  I just feel to say they deserve more praise than ME is unfair.

DAI is more a poster boy for equality and SJW.  Not a game.

I didn't mean that the way you took it.  It more saying you left ME out in the wind while praising DA. ME3 did surely have its issues.  Especially the whole "your decisions matter" thing they had in that series, but even still its a great series and I also really enjoyed ME3 until the later points and seeing what was and wasn't going to be addressed etc.  I think DAI is far worse than ME3.  I feel DA is the bastard son of Bioware, not ME.  I think they put more into that series in all aspects.

Glad to see a positive thread for once, to be honest.

While DAI wasn't a perfect game in my opinion, I thought that all three dragon age games had pretty solid writing, and the main story was not one of my problems with DAI.

DA2 is one of my favourite games of all time, despite what people say about it.

That's because we're in the Dragon Age section that I just mentioned Dragon Age in the first post. Besides, I prefer DAI's writing to ME3 which felt like a linear mess with no option to actually hang out with the companions and do that much exploring. DAI > ME3 in my book, but sadly we're derailing the purpose of this thread.
