You don't get enough recognition for all your work through the games, the codex entries, the characters, the feels. I want to thank everyone who worked on this franchise so far, even though I don't know all of them by names I just want you to know that your writings are what made me come to this franchise in the first place and why I cherish it so much. Thank you for sharing your stories and thank you for making us a part of your imaginary world. Sure, there are people who will always complain, but it's alright. This franchise is huge and there are times when I understand why it's hard to make some choices for the following games and why it fits with the plots you are writing. Just know that as a fan, I am thankful you are still there working for BioWare and for the fans.

A special thank you to David Gaider who won't be the lead writer anymore but still managed to write some of the most appealing companions in all my video game experiences. Dorian, Alistair, Morrigan, and more, those characters all managed to touch my heart in their own ways and I feel lucky to have met those virtual characters as they are all part of one smart, funny and snarky soul out there. You got no idea how liberating it was for me to meet Dorian in Dragon Age Inquisition. I haven't experienced what Dorian went through, but it felt good to see that members of the LGBT community can be represented so well and not just through stereotypes. His relation with his father, while it wasn't similar to mine, reminded me how much I miss my own father who passed away in 2010.

It was right about the time I started playing DA2, to be honest and while some of the gloomy atmosphere from that game was way too depressing, it helped me coping with loss.

So yeah, thank you again DA team for allowing us in your world.

Thanks! It's great to hear you enjoyed it -- makes my moving on that much harder, really. :)

I'm quite curious what that next project of yours will be. Can't wait but at the same time, good things always come in time.
Thanks again for your characters and all your precious time.

Gosh dangit, if someone had told me in advance that a BioWare employee -- Gaider at that! -- was gonna show up and post back, I'd have not been lazy and actually taken the ten seconds to echo Teddie's sentiment.

Sentiment belatedly echoed, Teddie.

David, thanks for everything, and I look forward to experiencing more of your work in Mystery BioWare Project 3000.

When I heard you were leaving, I had three reactions within about thirty seconds:

1) "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! The Maker has abandoned us!"

2) "... ooooo, but on the other hand, more Patrick Weekes!"

3 "Goddammit, this means I have to buy whatever the hell the new IP is when it comes out instead of waiting for it to be on sale."

(I mean, I might have anyway, depending on what it is, but now it's a certainty unless it's a genre I really don't like.)

Yeah, I'll admit, there are a couple of ways things could go down in which I wouldn't pick it up, either. If it's a multiplayer-focused title I'm not likely to harbor much interest. If it's centered on, say, vampire or zombie lore, I'm going to need some convincing, too.

If that happens, it happens. I'll still have Mass Effect and Dragon Age for the foreseeable future. Otherwise, though, I'm totally on board.

I won't be interested if it doesn't have a strong single-player focus (bonus multiplayer is fine, I'll just ignore it like I do with DAI and ME3) and I'm not keen on shooters. There's a reason I've only played the Mass Effect series once once, and it's because my aim is terrible.

... uh, sorry, this is getting off topic. Anyway: BioWare writers rock. And I'm curious to see who else ends up on the Mysterious New IP writing team.

David leaving is still a huge bummer. Almost all of my favorite characters have been David's, from Deekin on up to Cassandra and Dorian. Never seeing Shale again breaks my heart.

Patrick is a fine writer and all, but I think it's a huge disservice to David's talent and leadership to act like nothing has been lost. We've been obscenely lucky to have had so many memorable faces and stories.

Vanguard means never having to fire your weapon~

Anyway, I thought DA: I's writing was fantastic.

I wish DA:Inquisition's plot was a bit longer and that Corypheus was actually a challenge in the final fight, but I guess I'm satisfied with what we got so far. I know there will be other games, DLCs and more stuff to come to add to the lore and the stories to be told. Knowing that this world is far from finished gives me hope that we'll hear more about Dragon Age for years to come.

Yeah, the lenght of the main story is the one thing i didn't like about DA:I. It felt so short compared to how much time you spend in the world.

I did enjoy the increase in nugs in DA:I though. Really big improvement over previous installments in the series.

Leliana is probably depressed to know the Inquisitor accidentally killed so many... But think about the delicious nug meat!

(I would like to jump the bandwagon then, and hijack your thread...)

On the off-chance that you're browsing these forums, dear madam: Thank you Sheryl Chee, for writing Thornton the Hunter.

(I know you might not think of him to be one of your greatest achievements given the scope of the franchise exactly, but let me explain.)

While I'm not saying any game without is racist or even ignorant, nor that this should be the legally enforced norm; I can't say it happens a lot that you find a character that you can identify with as a black guy, who's into medieval fantasy RPGs. And yes, it's just something different than "just" the personality, I suppose I am superficial like that. He's a resourceful, tool-focused archer rogue, my favourite playstyle, who happens to be black - only this is the first time it wasn't me who created this character for myself when playing an RPG in 20 years. (My Inquisitor as seen in my avatar was created before I even first tried the MP)

One may argue that he's "just" a multiplayer character, but there's many black PCs for story-based single player games whose role is basically to be the black guy. Thornton is just there, looking absolutely like he belongs in this world, just like that. One may be inclined to argue that the color of his skin was a mere aesthetic decision by the art department - fine by me, that's the point. One may be inclined to call the "I'm too old for this sh*t"-line cringeworthy, but curiously, Roger Murtaugh [from the action movie Lethal Weapon which made this quote iconic] is also a surprisingly unobnoxious black character - admittedly in a movie not exactly reknown for its decent social commentary, but hey.

This is one of the reason I am probably more glad about the addition of the multiplayer than most DA-veterans. To me, Thornton instantly became my favourite character in the series.

So yeah, uh thanks.

P.S.: What I don't want is to start a discussion about racism or anything. I don't want a quota for DA4 of having a minimum amount of black characters. I'm really just expressing my gratitude that I was finally given a perfectly matching avatar, which, and I cannot stress this enough, I also did not feel entitled to before.

GROUP HUG!

A special mention to Jennifer Hepler, even though most people online were rude to her, I am thankful for her wonderful writing in the Dwarves Main Quests. The poem still haunts me today... The way she handled Anders in DA2, well, you'll be surprised but I actually loved DA2's Anders better than Awakening's Anders which oddly felt like an Alistair with a broomstick. I like that Anders and Justice fused and I love how it messed up his personality because it shows how easy it is in that world to crumble and do insane stuff to make a point. Even though Hepler isn't part of the team anymore, thank you for your contribution to the franchise and I'm sorry for the internet bullying you've been through. Again, people will disagree with me about Anders, however I feel what happened to her was disrespectful and uncalled for.

Here here and agreed.  Anders was, at the time, the best romance in a story I had experienced.  I got my feels really wrapped up in it.  Until Cassandra came along anyways.

Wait, is this where we thank the writers? Oh well, since Sheryl Chee is taken...

Thank you Mary Kirby for, among many things, the Chant of Light in all its subtle variations and forms, for bringing to life this entire culture through the voice of the faithful. Thedas would not be half as much alive as half of what it is thanks to you. You're the one letting us peek into the souls of the fantasy characters we love and despise.

That was Lukas Kristjanson, for the most part. (I mean, I know that everyone sort of works on everything, but I gather that the main bulk of the work on that quest was his.)

So this seems like a good place to say: thank you, Lukas Kristjanson! Not only have you given us Aveline, Carver,  Sera and a bunch of great quests including A Paragon of Her Kind (along with Jennifer Hepler) and In Your Heart Shall Burn, but you have been with us literally since BioWare started making cRPGS. So thank you for sticking with us all the way from Baldur's Gate to Inquisition.

Thank you indeed. If not for David and the rest of the team, we would never have known of Dragon Age or been introduced to memorable characters that affect us in many ways.

Complaining is expected, but I look at it this way, if not for the amazing writing and creating of the games/characters, fans wouldn't be so involved in trying to make the series better.

It's been a big part of my life since 2011 and I've loved the ride its taken me on, and I hope that ride doesn't end anytime soon. I'm not ready to get off yet.

This thread makes me happy, and really it's why I decided to post anything at all. Positivity should be abounding on these threads, but people have an amazing ability to rant about the negative and forget to expound on the joy that so many of us have found within the time spent on this series.

I love the whole Dragon Age series.  It's not perfect, but no game is, (no person is, no matter how much online anonymity makes people forget that), and I love, frankly, to be able to visit and revisit the characters, locations, and storylines repeatedly. I get different results each time I play, based on my mood, a slight change in conversation, etc.  I think this is brilliant game and story crafting, and I'll continue to follow these stories as they grow and mature.

I can play this game in line with my own way of thinking morally, etc, or I can test the limits, and experience what this world is if I play someone vastly different from who I am.  It's escapism, yes, but it's also a form of self-examination that's fascinating to experience.

The biggest thing that this game has given me (besides Varric, who I love and cherish and wish I had at my side at all times) is my renewed enjoyment of writing.  These "flaws" the game has, the moments in between that we don't see and the questions we don't have answered, have helped me go back to putting virtual pen to paper and just perform writing exercises, where I can relinquish some of the control of what I'm writing (the characters, the base personalities) and focus on dialogue, or plot, or whatever I'm looking to strengthen within my own skill set.  And for that, I can't say thank you enough.  I've remembered the pleasure that I take in creation, and though it's "just" scribbling, it's, for me, a springboard to something more, a hint that a talent I've let lapse because real life gets in the way is waiting for me to use it.

And so, in my long-winded way, thank you, everyone who brought this world to life for us.

Total ass-kissing thread.

So not needed...

Whether or not it's an 'ass-kissing' thread, it strikes me as a wee bit control-freakish to attempt to quell the discussion simply because you don't approve of it.  Some threads bug me too, like ones that are obviously created just to get attention but rather than feed them, I just roll my eyes and move on to something less annoying and more interesting.

Anyway, back on topic, I would like to thank the developers for doing what I previously believed to be impossible and that is to show me that perhaps all is not lost for a development company once EA enters the picture, which was always the case in my gaming experience, until now. ;)  After writing off the Dragon Age franchise as yet another EA casualty, DA: Inquisition has renewed my interest in spades and it's really nice to be excited about its future once again.

I hope this doesn't come off as a backhanded compliment because it's not meant to be, I'm just really stoked to be excited about Dragon Age again. :)
