Now how about those hairstyles.... (ducking and running.....

Pahahahaha! I'll run alongside you on those. ;)

ETA: Though I will say my husband pointed out the impracticality of long hair on these quests, and the likelihood that after approximately five seconds in the woods it would likely all get chopped off when it got caught on the eighteenth tree branch. I still narrowed my eyes at him and said, "So?"

I think I won that debate.

I agree. We really wanted to give the Inquisitor an option to pick their outfit for the ball (and in Skyhold), but sadly the technical issues involved put it on the chopping block.

A man who wrote someone as fabulous as Dorian is bound to feel some disappointment about cutting outfit options. :D

It´s nice to read you again, Mr. Gaider. I missed your snark.

Related to the original topic, I have to say that I'm fascinated with the BioWare writers' ability to write characters that are so engaging. Even the characters that I don't like I find interesting from a story perspective (with Oghren being the only exception).

I love when they allow the companions to have their own motives and agendas. That moment in DA2 where the plot of the 3rd act really gets going was brilliant, and genuinely shocking. A lot of "How could you?!"s were uttered. As was the companion quest in DA:I that resulted in me, the player, deciding to never forgive that companion. I suspect it may have been somewhat unsettling to my partner that I kept gaping and pointing at my screen for 15 minutes straight. A lot of not very flattering words were said out loud as well. The scene after the end credits of DA:I almost caused me to fall off my chair : P

And that's just one of the things that is so brilliant about BioWare. The games have their faults and quirks, but I genuinely care about those characters.

Also, someone should play this to David Gaider:

A female Qunari in a ballgown would have really turned heads in Halamshiral! Lol but I can understand the technical issues. It is a shame though. And the dance with the Duchess might have become a tangled mess of skirts.

Something to talk about for the Orlesian nobles. I was actually thinking about the old Jade Empire where, if you could get all of Princess Lian's handmaidens to faint with your scandalous behavior, you'd get an extra technique (Loutish Approval).

All of the new characters added with DAI are great, though Dorian has to be my favorite of the bunch, thanks David!  :)

For the Bioware team.. Thank you for making this game :)
I've been playing and loving the characters you've masterfully crafted since BG1 (Gorion, Imoen, Dynaheir, Minsc and Boo, Elminster... hmn.. suddenly feels a smidge nostalgic here) and now DAI (Cullen, Cassandra, Blackwall, Morrigan, Lelliana, Mythal and Cole's banter with pretty much everyone :D )

And special thanksies for the Cullen romance :D best in-game story I have ever experienced ♡

Go for the eyes!!!  I need to play BG again.  Later. After my copy of DAI breaks.  And the next one does as well.

I just finished DAI an hour ago after months of delay and I loved it. I clocked in at 100 hours after Jaws of Hakkon. The writing, characters, atmosphere, and environments were outstanding! I will truly miss Gaider as lead writer. I've loved his stuff since BG2 and I hope Thedas is in good hands.

I did dislike several things about DAI, the controls were awful until I used a 360 controller, and I really, really miss the tactics system of origins and DA2. Combat just wasn't as fun as the first two DAs but the crafting system and customization helped assuage that a bit. I loved experimenting with tactics commands in the old games.

Ugh I'm ranting about stuff the writers had nothing to do with. I love you writers! Thedas' rich lore is so amazing.

Edit: now I'm faced with choosing a new world state and character. Or trying out TW3. Or going outside in this heat. Decisions!!

Oh go take a gaming break after you 100 hours and have a rl moment.  Then go back and nerd.  I always have to jump to the evil play thru, then work on the next game.

Shout out to all of the team at Bioware for Mass Effect and Dragon Age for awesome games. I was always a hardcore videogame player, but over the years.. my playtime has been reduced due to work and family life. So, when I have an hour or so, these are my go-to games. I can't explain how much time I have invested in your universes but I always come back for more. Usually, I will play a game and finish to never look back. I've actually replayed DA and the ME multiple times. It's something I can't say about many other games in the past 10-15 years (aside from Neverwinter, which turns out was a Bioware game too, and some online games).

I could ramble forever but I love Bioware giving the player agency over the story. Just having choices in dialogue and situations is extraordinary, the differing consequences are an added bonus. The writing is top notch. The story, conversations, and lore have kept me interested for years now.

Also, I have to admit that I would read forum topics from Old Gods to Exiling Wardens to see everyone's opinions and not realize the time. Awesome work, guys. Looking forward to the next DLC installment!

Inquisition has it's flaws but ultimately, I'm still having a fantastic the experience. I'd purchase post-game story DLC in a heartbeat.

Great thread btw.

Regarding the topic:

The worldbuilding as expressed through Codex and dialogue, and the characters, companions and regular NPCs alike, that's what makes me come back for more Dragon Age, be it in DLC or new games. I have my points of criticism, some of them important, but on the whole my sojourn in Thedas was fantastic, from the viewpoint of all three protagonists.

I can't contrast this enough with Mass Effect, which I started because I was starved for SF rpgs, and continued because I thought things might turn into something I really liked at some point, but they never did. The worldbuilding issues of the MEU almost break the setting for me, and Shepard in ME3 was the last straw.

Please make more DA games, Bioware... and if I may express one wish: de-sanitize the world a bit in your next game.

Nice to see more people appreciate the writing, especially since it is geared for a slow burn through multiple installments.  Just finished another run with the JoH DLC for the first time and the lore possibilities it hinted at are intriguing.  I guess for some things like that are just too subtle.

Ditto. I thought the writing for the DA series was a little more consistent, creative and overall enjoyable than that of ME. Sure, ME had its moments: good, bad and horrible (ME3...) and it will always be a favorite of mine. But my love of fantasy games and the whole creation of DA just make it my favored out of the bunch; Kinda like how I Baldur's Gate a little more than KOTOR.

+1. I'm glad I stumbled on this thread. After eight months and about six Inquisitors, I've decided I really love this game. Its nice to find positive threads every now and then.  I'll second what most have said about the characters.  This was one of my favorite casts in any game I have ever played. Even the returning characters evolved in really interesting ways. Well written, interesting characters are the major reason I keep coming back to these games.
