DA:I wasn't my game of the year thanks to a little gem called Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright - Ace Attorney but had the pacing and story lived up to the bar set by the whole Haven Battle part at the 15hr mark, it would've been amazing. I'm lukewarm about DA:I at best as it is, but the big reason was the weird distinction between the story-part of the game and the MMO-esque empty worlds that just didn't feel very organic to me, and the lack of intrigue in the latter part of the story. I felt the story became too simple after Corypheus was shown, and simple is good, but here it just lacked something that I can't put my finger on.
Skyhold ended up being a place I really hated whereas in Haven, like in Origins, I felt like I was part of a group on a hero's journey who'd rise from small to eventually become the saviors of the world or something. Early issues involved vagueness surrounding the founding of the Inquisition. "To bring order into a world gone mad". How has the world gone mad though? Yeah, the Divine is gone, sure, and there IS tension between mages and templars and a hole in the sky... but I don't see the chaos yet, and I'd have liked some context.
But those issues aside I really ended up liking all the parallels to history and "examination of faith" as DG called it. I picked up on those themes early into the game and it's stuff like that that makes me think Bioware has the right ideas, but not all of its potential saw the light of day.
I'm really gonna miss the companions DG wrote. I think Cassandra was by far the best and most interesting character on your team in DA:I, and as good as the other writers are, I just don't think they're gonna get her characterization right... they are different people with different opinions, ideas and way they write after all.
But I'm glad to see that it's Patrick Weekes who took over, given that the stuff he contributed with in DA:I seems to be the most obvious thing to make the next game all about, and he did a great job.

No. If people have things to say, they're free to do so. So now please feel free to ignore this thread from now on if it annoys you this much.
