Ok, I would like to flesh out builds based utlilizing passives that provide the best ways to generate mana for Zither.  I don't usually play Perilous, simply because Threatening is nice balance between ease/difficulty.  However, I would like to be able to take Zither into Perilous at some point.  How can I provide good support, which I like to do, but also dish out damage, which I also like to do, while minimizing damage taken?

I'd like this thread to be about player builds of course, but with slightly more focus on mana generation to keep Zither on top of the game.  I call BSNites who understand this stuff better than I to share their various builds, and mana generation techniques.

Scene Cachet mentioned Power Cord use in Perilous.  I have tried Power Chord in Routine and Threatening, and while it is godly in Routine I found it lacking in Threatening.  I believe ya SC, just need more informaton.

In the meantime...

For those who play on Threatening level, I can at least showcase the use of Cool Beats (ice damage).  On Threatening it is quite powerful.  I like Cool Beats because it is a great distance power, with CC effects, and great DoT.

Use power chord on nearly dead mobs to get encore and a free song, auto attack between songs to regenerate mana.

You could really use any offensive song to get the encore free song, however I find powerchord aoe is most effective.

It's all about timing, but if you're in a team that likes to use choke points, you have plenty of times you can use your AoE offensives to your advantage.

Also, the passive that helps you regen mana while team mates are near is also a must. Essentially you are stealing kills from team mates, but everyone is better off with you having mana to buff them.

Power Chord is still a beast on threatening if you have high enough attack %. Perilous I use it more carefully, like scene_cachet said to finish off groups. The biggest downfall I find is people expect you to keep them alive if you are a virtuoso and play like Rambo. I will give you barriers I will let you heal on hit but don't stand in the open like a fool. If my barrier is still at 100% and yours is gone and you are half dead you're doing something wrong. LoS people.

Agreed, still one of the quickest ways for the team to fail.  I see it happen a lot on FC especially.

You can also play a perfect balance of both offense and support.

If there are other barrier casters in your team like a keeper or elementalist, once they cast barrier on me i'll speed around spamming power chord on groups of archers then return to top up the barrier to fill that gap inbetween their cooldown time.

You don't need to use an encore combo, but it can help. I don't bother trying in Perilous. As long as you regenerate mana from basic attacks and nearby enemies, you should be ok. Basic rule for me is two basic attacks between songs until my mana is low, then three basic attacks between songs until it fills back up.

I find people tend to expect you to be the main barrier caster as Zither though, Keeper or no. It doesn't really bother me since keeping things going is how you play him, but when it comes to the dragon fight...whole 'nother story. It'd be so nice if the dragon actually procced Opening Set.

Anyone know if standing near the dragon procs Combat Clarity, or is it just on-hit effects that don't work? I know Gathering Storm also does nothing.

I have been doing a few perillous runs and the mana is not an issue... It's true sometimes I wish I had more but it's most of the time ok with the passives and auto attack ....
