I would love more hairstyles for men and women. I can't stand most of them. I don't care about the clipping. I can live with that.

I'm not asking for hair my own length.  It's down to the middle of my back and that I do think would be a clipping nightmare in a game.  It can be a interesting challenge trying to keep it untangled in real life.

New game mode: Keep hair untangled while defending against waves of demons.

That excuse is really weak. Is hard finding something that doesn't clip in the game. How could people be bothered by some clipping of bangs or ponytail? and the hair already clip. To prevent it, is necessary position right the ears. So really, who would have cared? and if bangs and chin lenght hair didn't clip in DAO, why should clip now? Well, a part in the case really the ones who have to model the hair are totally unfit for the job, and can't do any kind of hairstyle. in this case, BioWare should hire someone competent in this particular task.

Like you said, it's kind of funny how ears clip with hair a lot. Luckily, you can adjust them until they don't, but technically you might not be able to have the ears you want. Likewise, hair even clips with your forehead. Same rules as ears. If I remember correctly, the hair on the default female face (aside from having sideburns, yup, I'm going to mention sideburns until they're gone  :P) clips with both the ears and forehead. Nice! It's okay though, I make my own.

So, is female balding a new problem in Thedas, or is it just because of the Breach?

So yeah, I love BioWare games.  Their CC has come so far in most ways.   One thing doesn't seem to change though: their hair is always a new and special kind of terrible.

I joked that the blight messed with hormone levels in crops and livestock. Because you can attempt to headcanon anything :P

I agree, the CC for Inquisition is spectacular. They even added things like adam's apple adjustment and inner iris colour (which can make some really cool eyes). Unfortunately, the hair sucks. The next things I want from a Bioware CC are good hair (which really should be a given), and some sort of body slider.

I wouldn't hold off on a body slider, because of the animation for cutscenes.  I've seen them screw up framing before, briefly.  My favorite was the Cadash Boob Cam that happened my first time through (finished the game just before patch 2 came out the first time.)  I still have the screenshot buried somewhere.

However, I'd love for them to take the current ideas and add some more hair options.  Of course I'd like some better styles, but it's more than that.  Where's something basic, like being able to make eyebrows a different color than the rest of the hair?  Shoot, I could do that in ME and the game is about to hit 7 years old.  That seems like almost a given for a good RPG character creator past, say, 2004.

Or how about a hair color wheel for both the brows and the hair, not just for the eyelashes.  I can respect the devs wanting to keep any hair color more within a natural spectrum, but why not let us tweak the accepted RGB scales for that?  How about adding some highlights?  We can do it with eyes (outer and inner irises!), makeup, and eyelashes, why not there?  That's what I'm shooting for.

I'm not saying it wouldn't be hard, but I would sorely appreciate it. It's just a bit jarring when you can make a unique face but whenever you look at other protagonists (or any other character for that matter) they all have exactly the same body. It's kind of immersion-breaking. Not only that, but it would go a long way to helping the NPCs feel different than each other (and you) by having some variety there. So, it wouldn't just help the CC. I personally think that would help the game's population feel a lot more real and alive.

I couldn't agree more with the rest. I've brought up a wheel for hair before. They should use the exact same one as eyes, for 2 reasons:

1. You can effectively already use dyed hair, because most of the "red" hair looks dyed, not natural.

2. You can do impossible things with eye colour, like give yourself red eyes, and Thedas doesn't have contact lenses. So why not dying hair? We know dyes exist in-universe as well.

A form of highlights would be cool. The CC of Neverwinter has 2 colours for your hair, so you can combine them and make, say, a nice auburn that you can't in DA:I. Now that you mention it, not being able to change the eyebrow colour separately is really strange! Highlighted by the fact that you can change eyelash colour like you said. That should definitely be changed. Serious question: Can people have different-coloured eyelashes in real life?

1) With the hair, it may look dyed but the developers have already stated their intentions on that front.  Pink, purple, green, ect are probably not going to happen.  I think this is a case of what we could expect out of the idea, versus what we might want.  I don't think your idea is bad.  I think green hair on an elf would be appropriate, as an example.

I do think that a hair highlight wheel should have the wide range of RGB colors as the eyes and makeup though.  Adding a deep shade of navy blue to a black hair color can really make it pop.  Same with a more natural reddish brown (like what is pretty much in the game) only with added blood red tones.   Add in a slider for shine too, like with the lips.  One of my Shepards has black hair with navy blue highlights (thank you Gibbed!) and it looks awesome.

2) When it comes to the eyes, I guess I'm willing to make a headcanon from it.  We are dealing with a world of magic, dragons and all that jazz, so it could affect eye colors for all we know.  Yes, the same could be said about the hair, but again, it's a matter of trying to think about what the devs might actually be willing to do.

Men and Women may be equal, but guess what... they arent the same! Most women do not prefer balding, shaved hairstyles with sideburns. I suspect many men dont prefer that style either. I am a woman who does not care for shaved or semi shaved punk rockish army dos.

If Bioware is no good at hair, then why not hire someone who is?

I think they outsource a lot of their 3d modelers from India which explains the poor quality.

I like to see more hairstyles for females. I like the hair styles femHawke had. Even the ones from DAO were alright. Don't know how hard it would've been to have them in DAI

I enjoy many aspects of the game, but I admit the hairstyles available are not really my cup of tea. Understandably, with the combinations of armor, hats, character races, etc. clipping issues will limit the amount of long hairstyles, but even shorter options are lacking in variety. I would definitely purchase a DLC that included some updos, shorter styles, and especially curly or African-American hair texture options (besides the teeny weeny afros/close shave, etc.)

I collected a few hairstyles that allow the illusion of longer hair, and could be easier to implement without as many clipping issues (styled close to the head, above collar, etc.)

Spoiler

Of course, I am not a professional, and I know that telling is easier than actually having to implement it in the game, :P but maybe posting some  styles will give a better idea of what we would like to see in DLC,future games, etc. Thanks for reading!

I understand they might not want to and don't expect it, but, I would imagine it would also be technically easier to have a wheel than establish a few preset colours. Could be wrong though. When it comes to the eyes, yeah, you can headcanon it. There are tons of cases of power (Solas) or possession changing eye-colour and not just in DA. So that in itself is actually standard, just a bit odd to see it normally. Morrigan has those yellow eyes though, as does Flemeth, so you never know. That implies Flemeth is in fact Morrigan's biological mother. Hmm, I've been wondering about that since Origins and for some reason, never thought of that.

I figure they can use the exact same color wheel as they did for the eyelashes.  No need to create a new wheel when they can use the pre-existing one.  All of those colors are within more naturally occurring shades, so I figure it would work for hair too.  I've given this a lot of thought.   ;)

My other idea for Morrigan is that it could be something that's common to mages of barbarian tribes.  Flemeth was from the area and was a likely a mage (she talked about calling out and Mythal's spirit answering, which is definitely something we've seen mages do) when she was fully human, so it could be a trait that the southern tribes have genetically.  I'm honestly not sure if Flemeth was Morrigan's biological mother or if Flemeth came across her in some way.  Morrigan could have been kidnapped at a very young age (for some reason the witch from Tangled comes to mind,) or she could have been the only survivor of a raid that left everyone else dead.   It's possible that Flemeth simply chooses little girls that look like her.

Edit: Clarified a confusing sentence.

Sometimes, eye color can change from birth to three years old.  Heck, there could be some kind of superstition that causes girl toddlers to be cast out if they have golden eyes like Flemeth.  She was a very feared myth for much of Ferelden for a long time.  Just some random ideas, and pretty far off topic.  Sorry about that.

Those were my thoughts too, about the hair. That's alright, it's interesting to discuss. It could definitely be a number of things. I always figured Flemeth was always a mage. I didn't think you could acquire magical powers, but the Anchor proves that's not 100% true. (Dwarves with magic, yay!)

About Tangled:

CaptainAmerica1_zps8c295f96.JPG

I have this habit of not understanding a lot of references when it comes to things people normally experience in their childhood, so I felt a bit like Cap :P Luckily I know more now, since I watched Tangled with my girlfriend  And yeah, that was the alternative to being her biological mother I always had in mind.

Only if they are playng COD. Many males like good and longer hairsyles if they can choose. Expecially in a fantasy enviromant like DAI. (at least I think, since I'm female. But I love making male characters with longer hair-I may be strange. I love my ladyes with short hair, and my dudes with long hair  :P )

I can't really understand why those hair have been discarted. A part from the dwarf female braid, the others aren't longer than the cuts we got, just much more beautiful.

Well, there obviously might be some clipping with armors but I don't see hats or cowls causing a clipping issue, since when wearing those, all the hair is stuffed out of sight under those odd leather caps anyway. I never have the headwear visible in game, so I'm not sure about helmets, though.

IS the same Like the hats. The hair disappear. So, no clipping problem\excuse there.

Indeed, but I really wish they tried harder and made hair visible through hats, only removing parts that would clip (which would be easier than removing animation clipping because the hats don't move relative to your hair). The results would have been - and thanks to a workaround are - great.

For the people who haven't seen it:

N6sJ9EG.png

Spoiler

Just summon a mount, then mount it with any companion who has headgear. Wait until everyone disappears, then dismount. Then, after a couple of seconds, your Inquisitor's (and I think everyone else's) hair will appear through the headgear! I find it works the best on the hat above, or the Orlesian Mage Hat. There will be clipping depending on the hairstyle, but with mine, it's only at the back of the hat, and since the hat is dark like her hair, and she has a bow and quiver on her back, it's hard to notice.

Random note: Unfortunately, using Longshot will make the hair disappear. I don't know about warriors and mages, but all Dual Dagger abilities work fine, so have fun! Also, you will have to do it again when traveling to new areas. I hope this helps people :) This is technically a graphical glitch, so it's fitting to post in this thread :P

Edit: It would have been really cool to see hats and helmets in cutscenes (as long as you could see your hair), but unfortunately they are extremely downplayed and can't really be used for style because you only see them while running around, so usually from the back, too.

The hair who appear under the hat make the hats muuuuuuuuuuuch better  I've resigned myself with hiding completely every kind of hat with my Qunari, since she still have her paint in the face even when in Skyhold, giving the impression that she didn't even wash her face

Is good having the vitaar in battle, but not at home. (expecially since some vitaar are very bad looking or too much evident)

Just as astounishing as the mud PJs Laidlaw have stated we should resign ourselves. Really, these two things have been asked from brefore day 1. I can't undesrtand why  nothing have been made fot them.

                                                                                        <<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>

Truly unfortunate, those PJs.  I prefer some official judicial wardrobe myself when sitting in judgement. Be as it may, the only reason for Laidlaw's "get used to it" attitude is the amount of costly and time intensive artistic work necessary to produce what players have clamoured for Bio to deliver.

Think about it. Players want their quizzie to wear their own armour in Skyhold. But, the cut scenes, with the quizzie, are all pre-recorded. No way can you superimpose your specific armour on the quizzie with the varied recorded cut scenes. Now, if the game was able to generated in-game animation, then perhaps it's possible to show different armours. The current setup prohibits that.

Now I know some use the Cheat Engine to change the colour palette of the PJs. I haven't come across anyone mentioning if the change is carried over to the cut scenes.

Actually...I have my elf trapass his own head with his hand when starting the romance with Cassandra. I have all my Inquisitors trapassing their own legs with their arm when talking to Josie in Skyhold. Nek that trapass the mage armour. Iron Bull clipping throught the orlesian sheets. And so on and so on.

As much clipping certain armour can do, I doubt would be so bad, after all. And I'm sure most would not make more clipping than in the scenes outside Skyhold.

The game is full of creepier clipping than sometimes the flowing cloth of the armour being on the way. And if really is a problem for certain scene, than only certain armour should be permitted to have on (using them as actual different clothes)

Actually, I use the cheat engine to change the PJ's to my inky's crafted armor and that armor always shows up just fine in cut scenes.
