Nothing to say about James. He's an amazing character. Allers however, you can just ditch her in ME3 and forget she ever existed.
James and Diana Allers - WHY do they EXIST?

Feelings on Cerberus aside, this is not the case.
Jack herself lists an entire spree of crimes and damages that she's done in her time. Any one of which could have gotten her locked up.
We're talking about Purgatory. She was on a Cerberus killing spree. She's only there because the Blue Suns got ahold of her first, then extorted Cerberus. While we learn later that Rasa put her in the dossier as legitimate recruit material -- because Jack impressed her. She kicked many of their asses, including Kai Leng. She's in cryo because she was killing people in prison too. For good reason. Some of them raped her.
I know she's a murderer. But she isn't there for that. Warden Kuril doesn't give a **** about plain murderers. He cares about the valuable ones. Which is why he wants to lock Shepard up too. Someone is bound to pay a big price for that.

Diana is alright, too. Though, for someone reason she reminds me of a few girls I knew back in high school. I do not know why, though. Regardless, I do not know why her character is hated on so much. She never gives me any trouble. If anything, I like how she asked me for permission to stay on my ship. Not like Liara who just automatically takes over Miranda's room. Plus Diana gives me war assets. She should have had her own mission, though. Either that or record us fighting Reapers. Other then that, she is okay by me.

I have nothing against James or Diana. In fact, James is one of the squadmates that I use sometimes. His background story is not crazy, though. He grew up with his uncle on some beach and joined the Alliance at eighteen.

I'll say one thing positive about her. I like her fairwell letter. "Normal is the best revenge". She's a destroy type it seems (then again, that's not that surprising).

wow, did the entire forum just miss the POINT of Diana Aller's character....yes her VA work was mixed, but definitely, the character does have a story and a theme to her.
All throughout the game, she is a snobby reporter failing to get the true personal effects of the war, voicing her opinions in a rash way that upsets people. She is more concerned about ratings that the truth, and at one point, suggests that they sacrifice one colony to save others, pissing of some crew members. She thinks the war doesn't affect her, that her life can't be affected.
Then HER home gets hit and then she is humbled at the end. And really Chobot does nail the last lines of her character. The final email you get from her is great as well.
She is supposed to irritating and annoying, that is the point.
Also, Emily Wong does not work in this characters role...sorry. Neither does Juhani. Both have far different personalities and does not fit the character arc.

Yeah, Allers is fine, she's never done anything to get under my nerves and she adds a new perspective to the story. The irrational hate she gets from many people is too much, yeah, we know you all love and wanted Emily Wong, but ffs get over it.

Eh, I'd say that Al-Jilani was designed specifically to be more annoying, hence why it always feels like a renegade test throughout all three games, but Allers is rather benign for the most part.
I could never really bring myself to boot her off the ship, though I can't say that I ever really had reason to be tempted either.

Al Jilani was a reporter with a political agenda, not like Allers. Allers just cared about ratings and was disconnected from the carnage. Jilani wasn't.

I just don't recruit her. Not that I'll miss those few assets.

I don't really care about the assets, especially since I get hundreds more points from having all of the DLC's. I typically don't deny myself as much dialogue/content as I can get out of the game, and I actually like the interviews.

Her purpose in the game does not matter in the slightest. She sucks. She's poorly written, poorly acted, and poorly modeled. Only the execution matters, and whatever Bioware's intent...they failed hard.

Agree completely. Don't even think that proclaimed purpose is particularly good.
Now a serious war correspondent, that something that could have had a great purpose. At least Al Jihani is willing to ruffle shep's feathers and ask tough questions like a real reporter.

I recruit Allers because even now with Reapers among them, idiots still need to wake up and see what's happeneing. Even if she did nothing but stick her camera to the window as we flew by some warzones, it's better than nothing.
I don't remember much about her interviews or reporting but I don't remember her coming across as snobby to me. Just kinda blank. Which means inexperienced VA and/or poor direction. I wonder if it's more of the latter. Chobot is supposed to be a fan. I think if any one of us was put into the game we'd try and sound more excited. Maybe she just kept getting told to tone it down. Or maybe she saw the ending and all interest just vanished. ![]()
It is amusing that she's a PR move, both in-game and out, though.

I've recruited the Allers character a few times for the extra dialogue Traynor has otherwise I don't recruit her the majority of my playthroughs

The word fan is vastly overused imo. I recall her getting into it with unhappy players despite not having played the game.

She sounds like a fan to me, on some ME1 bonus materials I just got around to watching recently. I don't know what she said about this game though.

As soon as some people found out she was in the game, they came after her like the Salem Witch Trials. Mob mentality.
It was disturbing. The Beast in us is disturbing.

Yeah, say what you will about the Diana Allers characters but the behavior of some of the "fans" over the whole thing was pathetic. Truly embarrassing.
Other than the silly Spanish stuff, James was fine.

I never liked the interviews. The ones with Khalisah either. My Shepard does not like attention from media ![]()

I've never really followed her career so can't say how devoted she was. Didn't know who she was when she was announced. i just have my recollection as a bystander of the incident her coming out and belittling others and then having to admit that said attack was based on not having played the game, which coupled with her voice acting made me want to ignore her thereafter.

honestly, there's wasn't enough content for Allers to make me feel more or less interested in her and much less hate her by proxy. Like I said earlier, she's just a filler character. She's inconsequential, irrelevant and it remain that way all the time in all my playthroughs. I do not dwell on it because I hardly saw her anyway. I guess people just don't like the fact that they can punch Khalisah but not Allers. Then again, I never get why do you need to punch Khalisah in the first place. Sure, she's irritating but its plain stupid. I know its fiction and you can do what you want with it but she really did nothing to deserve being attacked. Shepard kills people for a living, why stop at punching when you could just murder her in front of the camera?
Instead I would have love having more of those punch interrupts with your squadmates in ME2. You can only punch Zaeed tho and it was deeply satisfying... now if we can do that every single times Miranda and Jacob praise the all-mighty Cerberus.. besides she's the one who have the bright idea putting every single of your squadmates in a shuttle and then she have the nerve to be furious at Joker when the collectors attacked... then again, wouldn't it be more interesting if some of your squadmates was kidnapped also?
