What exactly are the catapults for?  Do they just add a little damage, or do they provoke a change in behaviour (e.g. getting the dragon down off of the towers faster)?

They do about 10% damage.  In a perilous run she usually takes 3 or 4.  So that is not a little damage.  Pre load them 7.5 turns so when adds spawn it fires with 1 turn.  It also gets her off the tower so she doesn't breath attack as often.

If you are undergeared play a support class well and 100+ prestigers will be happy to have you.

Id be happy with beating it on routine... right now every pug I get are idiots that stand on the flag and dont bother to move away from the deathtrap mid map.  I usually have to try and solo and that doesnt work well on the dragon.  I can solo threatening non dragon map bosses with my elementalist and I only have 3 promotions so I know gear matters more than anything to start.

Lastly the player itself as said before, understanding that mob AI is super aggressive and you can stand around corners and such to bottleneck them and all it takes is someone playing a good AoE class to easily wipe out the adds.    The dragon takes a bit more teamwork due to hard to avoid damage but it should be easy however when half the party was to try to spawn camp center or run away from dragon while it whirlwinds to insta die for the AoE then its crazy hard.

Anyone getting this with pugs I commend you because I just cant find the right time to party up I guess :)

PS4... when I first started everyone was new and I was doing regular threatening and few perilous but I took time off and just came back.   The community seems to have drastically dropped in terms of tactics and I dont fault people for inexperience but its very disappointing when your trying to advance and hit a brick wall of corpses.

With firestorm nerf I cant solo as easily and though Im happy because hope that makes  less noob mages it does bring a huge challenge to this situation.  The last 5 games i had to carry the team to round 5 and I was only able to solo the boss on one of those games because I acted like a jerk and refused the raise the people dieing mid map.   Instead I solo kited the boss and slowly took down all the spawn waves during a dragon fight each other game I tried to be team guy using barrier and raising the other players... only they ran mid field again like lemmings and got range pelted to death.   At this point Im afraid to use a horn honestly :)

My current Perilous group consists of upto 5 players with 70+ promotions and 1 guy who started when the DLC dropped. All he does is play ZITHER! and he's bloody good at it!!

He has carried our group through 30+ Dragon completes on Perilous yet hasn't promoted. Ever. His first ever unique item was Bow of the Dragon and he's never used it. (got staff now)

In Conclusion: by picking a team mage and learning its play style you will be recognised as a great asset regardless of your gear or promotes, then its just a matter of time until you cross paths with someone who DPS's Perilous and that's where the Add Friend button comes in.

I have sent 25 friend requests since DLC and have no problem finding players and I live on the West coast of Australia which is probably the worst time zone there is. you could add me on PS4 if your down under ;)

PSN is Dragon_Lake and I'm on the East Coast/Midwest (whatever Ohio is) USA. I have few promotions but can carry pretty well on threatening so even if you were doing bad and the other two pugs were, for lack of a better word, trash, we'd still probably manage to extract.

All you need is a team, and maybe a few hours per day of dedication.

Can't be bothered promoting most of the time..and find that there's no need in Perilous if your running high lvl toons with average to decent gear, stick together use the chokepoints , stay out of LOS of archers... and have barrier. . Ideally a virtuoso on primary barrior and buffs with keeper or elementalist on back up barrier and you should cruise through no problems. . remember the virtuoso requires close proximity of the other 3 players to generate adequate mana to provide barrier and buffs.. when playing virtuoso my typical casting cycle for the group after building up barrier is - little knight music..battle of the bands - Sing along (shield barrier group- boost armor - increase attack speed- heal on hit) ..find this is a devastatingly good cycle in Perilous and pretty much gurantees success If the group sticks togethet

Promotions don't matter, dear.

You just need a viable build on perilous and some potions. Zither and Keeper (with a proper build) will protect damage dealers with barriers. Done that many times :)

Game becomes a slideshow with Zither. Can't use him (playing on xbox one). Maybe if BioWare actually learned how to make a game and he becomes useful and the game stops being crazy buggy and the enemies damage me through my shield and all the mechanics work as they should - then MAYBE - I won't need promotions. But until they do actually get that far - I think we will need a good amount of promotions..

How on earth can you find a perilous lobby on 360 while I can't find one in the middle of the day on PS4...
