After what happened last year with Ubisoft they're going to have a hard time selling this.

It's really hard to care about AC anymore.

Such potential wasted because Ubisoft...

They dropped the balls after AC 4.

I imagine players will only be able to play as her for specific story sequences, which will cause even more rage about the issue.

Even if Ubisoft does have a game with a female protagonist (they technically have two with the one that spinoff for 3 and Chronicles China) they're still going to get flack from people.

They dropped the ball earlier than that. Would have loved to have the original trilogy as it was meant to be before they started to annualise the series and ousted the creative director. The modern day aspect was just so freaking fascinating. I used to be so interested and engrossed in that aspect but it feels like even Ubisoft doesn't know where they're going with that anymore. I suppose it's just a symptom of having of so many different creative directors, writers and the like playing around in the sandpit.

I didn't hate the series after 2, and certainly have enjoyed the games since then for the most part (even Unity!), but it has lost a lot of its magic and feels a little soulless. I'm just not engaged to the extent that I used to be.

With that said, I'll keep an eye out on this. Unity had some great ideas and quests (especially the murder mysteries) but the map was too busy and full of meaningless ****. This is not even mentioning the buggy state that the game launched in. Hopefully Syndicate is much more polished and has a emphasis on quality as opposed to quantity.

Nah, early reports have confirmed (or maybe speculated is more apt?) that you can switch between the two at will in the open world but certain story sequences will be locked and playable by one or the other.

I originally hated the modern day aspect, but then I grew to appreciate it.

The only downside to it now is that if they release a game in the modern setting it will be too similar to Watch Dogs.

Yeah, I was completely the opposite but it's good to know that you came around to appreciating it! I remember talking with friends, just theorising what was coming next. I loved the hints and modern day section in AC1 (although I found the rest of the game to be pretty boring, honestly), "The Truth" in AC2 and the reveal of Minerva and Those That Came Before.

I was fully expecting the AC3 to be somewhat Watch Dogs like, insofar that I was expecting a greater Modern Day aspect. Especially given Desmond's training and the emphasis put on the fact that he was learning to be an actual assassin via the bleeding effect in AC2. Then the yearly releases got into gear with the unexpected "expansions", the creative director was ousted and by the time AC3 rolled about, I doubt it really resembled anything what the original AC3 was supposed to be like.

Still, them's the breaks.

I enjoyed the actual AC3 when it rolled around. As far as Connor's narrative was concerned, at least. Felt really let down by the Modern Day aspect though, especially the sequel-bait conclusion.

We know it 'may' be the same universe as previous Abstergo CEO Olivier Garneau went to a shareholder's meeting in Chicago appearing in Watch Dogs  ;)

I feel like there was serious potential with the modern day aspect yeah. But right now its a complete cluster*expletive*. No clue whats going on in it or how long its presumably going to take before it reaches a climax and/or conclusion.

So are the rumors about the protagonist having a playable sister true? You know what this means? Evie and Jacob will be the first playable incestuous Assassin couple in an Assassin's Creed game! I thought they saved the creepy traits like incest for the Templars to highlight how evil they are?

You mean they didn't just ax it for the last couple games? I wouldn't be surprised if Ubisoft said "f*ck it" and discarded the whole animus idea and these were all just alternate takes on history at this point.

I kinda drifted away from the series after Revelations. I couldn't get into 3 and despite my best efforts I haven't been able to muster the will to finish 4 even though I actually liked it..

It's not even about the quality anymore, my eyes just start to glaze over everytime I hear the words "Assassin's Creed". I call it franchise fatigue. Every year, jump on rooftops and kill people in a historical era through a decent to mediocre storyline. It was better in the original trilogy when it felt like the overarching story was going somewhere, but now... I just can't get into it anymore.

I think its going off of what happened at the end of AC3 but I'm not even sure anymore.

The thing I've always liked most about AC was the sidestory about the First Civilization but that is almost non-canon by now.

After Brotherhood's ending I really thought we would see an engrossing plot but Revelations was a disaster and the subsequent games jumped the shark.

Wanna take bets how bad the PC port will be? I predict it will send the fans onto overdrive, and then cause the computer to commit sudoku and delete its own System32 folder upon launching.

Yeah, I like that story as well and had hoped it would be concluded with Desmond Brotherhood, then Revelations, then AC3. Then they killed him and made their best effort to forget about the whole plot.

It's disappointing that it'll be set way before Jack the Ripper, especially since the murder cases were some of the best bits of Unity for me. Although a criminal assassin probably wouldn't be investigating murders on the side.

As for the modern day storyline it seems relegated to little bits of background scrounged up from a specific task now (hacking terminals in Black Flag and the data from Helix Rifts in Unity). Which is a shame, as I did enjoy it. The majority of the rest of the playerbase seems to hate it though, so that's probably why it's been such a minor part of the games since AC3.

I'll still play Syndicate, but I'm probably waiting for a while until it's had some patches. Hell, I've only just gotten back to Unity over the past week to occupy myself until Witcher 3 turns up, just in time for my birthday. Unity was disappointing, but I'm still enjoying parts of it.

This isn't a BioWare game, I don't think we have to worry about that.

The only way to play a Ubisoft game is on console. You don't really have to deal with Uplay on one.

Not me, I liked the ancient gods from space. I only wish they had wrapped it up properly.

I've been waiting for Brock Lesnar to be in an Assassin Creed game for a long time now. This game gets bonus points for having him beating up what looks like Frank Mir.
