  How does it work?  Can I just keep my current installed game and then enter the new product code?  Do I need a 2nd email, or can I use the current one already registered?

Second copy of the game and second email. If you have myname@Gmail.com a good trick is "myname+extra@Gmail.com"

You'll probably need to tell it to re download the dlc but then it just verifies the copies you have. You'll get some weird artefacts between accounts, like if you switch accounts it'll still be on the kit you last used from the old account etc but otherwise it's fine.

Be sure to restart your machine when switching accounts. At least on mine i have weird effects when switching accounts and not restarting. Some very awful onhost-lag or something like that.

I never have that but I do have weird galactic readiness messages. It tells me it changed from whatever it was on the other account, to whatever it is to the one I just switched to.

  Oh i dont care about single player.   I'm just curious as to the steps involved to operate two same-game accounts simoutaneously with Origin.

- If a friend is nosy and you want to show him how multiplayer works and he doesn't own the game, you just start a duo (i have a second machine here).

- researching how long it will take to complete all challenges from scratch for an experienced player (~230 hours here)

- experiencing a crappy manifest again

- just for fun, at least it was fun for me

 

Sure, that's not the best reasons, but they were good enough to invest 9,99 €.
