You should all come and move to Washington State, tax rate for digital downloads is only 8.6% here.

One thing worth noting is that the article explains that the 10% is actually a sales tax that they already have, but doesn't currently have to apply to digital goods.

 

While it sucks to have to pay even more, the most ridiculous part is how expensive digital goods are there in the first place.

 

it applies simply because it would be highly anti-competive to undercut the retailers, and having the option of buying digital doesn't magically make the infrastructure issues (australia is very spread out, very big, and in the middle of ****** nowhere) go away. Prices wont go down until people stop buying games, and music and video from retailers, to do otherwise is going to put people out of a job.

 

I'm not worried about the prices though unless the government gets a lot better at forcing small time distributors to price match with our retailers.
