Hawke/Alistair
Hawke/Loghain
Hawke/Stroud

Of the available choices, which path have you muktiple-files Dragon Age trailblazers uultimately come to prefer, and for what reason? I'm gearing up to begin my second playthrough of DAI sometime soon, and I'm tempted to go with Alistair or Loghain, as I did the mission(s, kinda) with Stroud the first time around. Just wondering what y'all think.

I haven't reached Into The Abyss with my first Loghain/Hawke world state yet, but so far Alistair/Hawke is my favourite pairing.

Hawke/Loghain.

Alistair is an idiot.

Stroud is a mustache.

Easy choice. The direction Warden Alistair's character goes into also isn't really one of my favorites.

Only done Hawke/Loghain, which I enjoyed. I kinda regret leaving Loghain behind though.

Hawke/Loghain. Loghain gets to go out in glory before his calling kicks in.

Hawke and Loghain, since it's such an odd thing. The tremendous fail that is Ostagar is the reason Hawke had to leave Lothering and head to Kirkwall. Except for her father dying, this is the start of where everything goes wrong in her life. But in the end, my Hawke doesn't feel like she has the right to blame Loghain for that and despite their sometimes tense partnership, Hawke clearly feels bad when he dies. I'd love to have some scenes of that partnership developing, since unlike Stroud and Alistair, no groundwork was laid in DA2 for it.

Alistair with Hawke is pretty cute, and definitely a bit more light-hearted. I could see them being good friends in different circumstances.

Hawke and Stroud have the most history, especially if Stroud saved Bethany/Carver from the Blight. But Stroud himself doesn't have an interesting enough personality for me to feel attached to their relationship, just what he represents (a debt that Hawke can't pay if he dies).

Having Alistair say to the Inquisitor: "Tell Morrigan...I just stood there looking foolish."

Was nice to see the two of them poking fun (indirectly) at each other.

Loghain's probably the neatest, since it's part redemption and part mercy, sorta (no Calling). He's older and wiser so I don't feel quite as bad leaving him there as I do Alistair (bc he's a precious weenie roll) or Stroud (bc he saved my bro - I feel like a douche leaving him to die).

And I can't leave Hawke behind, because then I have Fenris's words haunting me: "Promise me you won't die. I can't bear the thought of living without you." Like damn son that's a guilt trip if I ever heard one.

Hawke/Stroud.

Alistair married Anora and my HoF executed Loghain so Stroud is the senior Warden in my canon PT. I always leave him behind, how could I possibily separate Hawke and Isabela?

Moreover, even if Stroud is left behind, it's taken for granted that he cannot be killed, because he has a mustache:

Hawke\Loghain, because that's how I played DAO. Accidentally. I didn't know Alistair would actually leave the group. And then I thought he was a spoilt child to do it and didn't reload to get him back.

I've only had Hawke/Stroud so far but I created a new world state recently where Loghain lives so looking forward to tossing him to the big bug!

Hawke/Loghain. It has more story elements. Stroud is too much of a nobody. I thought it was somewhat fitting Loghain would stay behind. Redemption story coming full circle and all of that. Still, leaving Loghain was one of the damn hardest decisions I had to make in any Bioware game.

You also get a really moving scene with Varric:

I liked all of them. But Hawke and Alistair seemed to have a more heated argument. It was strange hearing Alistair get that upset while Hawke was all... 'lol it's your fault!' when they helped tear Kirkwall apart. Whether it was intentional or not, in the end.

I also liked how Loghain was all 'eh' with Hawke, like he's dealt with them young kids before. He seemed to be set that there were more important things to do then argue. And I liked that aspect of it.

And I'm 'meh' about Stroud. I didn't know him well enough from Dragon Age 2 to care. He gets left behind, where as Alistair and Loghain don't. I like Hawke just fine, I'm just not as attached to them as other people seem to be.

Hawke/Stroud since Stroud saved Carver in my worldstate, so makes sense they would work together and Hawke would volunteer for staying behind, since he probably feels he owes Stroud. Their argument about the Wardens also seems a little more personal that way. I imagine Hawke has a sort of love/hate relationship with the Warden...they have helped his family in the past, but at a price, and they keep getting him mixed up in terrible things.

Thanks for all the responses, everyone. Some interesting insights going on here. I thought "Here Lies the Abyss" was quite good even with "just" Stroud, and I'm really looking forward to trying it with someone else.

Hawke/Loghain all the way. If having to make that awful, fateful choice is the price for having Loghain around again, I can accept it.
