Perhaps the eyes you see through the faceplate are a holographic projections to make them look more like a person, since their real eyes aren't visible? Similiar to the glowy thing that blinks when they speak?

Especially love it against collectors (more than most maps with collectors). Things can go wrong so fast that it's amazing fun to play.

you'd have to lack depth perception since you can also make out the noses. There's also the ME2 alternate armor that actually does have a holographic interface, which is clearly in front of the eyes



also makes grunt look hilariously grumpy and gives Miranda some actual clothes.
