Do you mean "defend" instead of "follow" in Targeting Behavior under AI Tactics? If so, it's follow and I never changed it.

I think what happens is that the party does hold for a while, but when the distance between it and the rogue becomes bigger than default (whatever it is), they run after him. I tried to put up that flag in the valley while hiding party behind two different huge rocks. From the first one Cole could only make half-way to the flag point before the party ran out. From the second one, which was a shorter way, he could make it all the way, but when he reached the flag spot the party would run out and get spotted by giants.

Yeah, if you get too far away your party just pretty much warps to where you are. I'm guessing that's what's happening, but if for example you stealth while outside of Rift aggro range, you should be able to run around without any issues.

On that note, does anyone use Ice Wall? I'm wondering if ranged units count it as geographical obstruction and run around it, or if they keep firing into it. I always assumed the former and never took it.

So I tried out tactical cam once again, as was suggested by many people. One great thing about it is that it's nice to not fight blindly, now I know levels of opponents, what they're weak to, the effects that my companions suffer, etc. But... where is an option to zoom out? This one Venatori Brute took all my screen in full height and I can't find a way to zoom out!

Apart from being able not to fight blindly (which of course makes fighting a lot more interesting) I don't see much difference to the game, though. Pausing has to be done manually in tactical mode, just like in a non-tactical one. Which means I still cannot really control my party. Even if I tell each member of the party what to do, their next attack is done by AI, apart from one character I control at the moment. So... awful. I'd rather not control them at all than have control being pulled from under me like a rug all the time. I can't explain how frustrating it is to me. Like dangling a carrot in front of me and then pulling it away, teasing.

Another thing is that I still fail to understand what really is going on. Once I pause, I see damage numbers floating above the enemy's head, but I cannot tell who of my companions dealt which damage. I don't think it's even possible. Unless only one of them is attacking one single opponent, in that case it's a no-brainer. But it usually makes sense to gang up on enemies by focusing on one or two at a time.

Ugh, this brings memories of why I decided not to play DA2. At the time I couldn't put up with such BS just for the story.

Well, that's what part of the conversation was about.  On the console version, bringing up tac-cam pauses, and you can move the "cursor" around freely and move the camera freely too, switch to different party members, and issue a command for each.  Then you hold down the time-advance button for things to happen, and you can pause it again by letting go of the button.  Then you can look at the battlefield again and issue new commands.  If the PC doesn't behave this way, you are missing out on a whole different mode of play (quasi-turn-based).

The way I understand it, you can make the PC version behave this way if you use a controller instead of KB+M.

About zooming.  Bringing the camera down toward horizontal should zoom in, and bringing it up toward vertical (top-down) should zoom out.

So... if I manage to obtain a PS4 controller and attach it to my PC, will I have that function? Or do I need a PS4 for that? *clueless*

Consoles aren't popular here, noone I know has one. But I saw an ad that offered to rent modern consoles for money and play games these people own, so I suppose I could try calling there and asking if can rent only a controller.

P.S. Yep I saw that you said you can make a PC version behave like a console, I just hope for someone else to clarify that for certain. I'm pretty sure it would cost a lot to rent a controller, since they will charge for it like for renting the whole console, most likely, so I'd love to know beforehand. I find it kind of dubious that a key binding menu would update to include new options, for example, and how do you even attach a controller to a PC? *puzzled*

Well, a wired Xbox 360 controller will plug and play into a Windows PC.  And now there is an Xbox One controller with an enclosed USB cable marketed specifically for Windows.  The XB1 controller works truly wired when connected through USB (input data goes through the cable, eliminating wireless lag).

Both of these have the exact same layout and functionality.

Edit:  I should add that the D-pad on the One's controller is much superior to the sometimes vague and mushy 360's.

I'll try to get it for sure, after weekend is over. Although it being XBox lessens my chances, as it's a very obscure console in these parts. They probably do not have it. :)

That said, playing with tactical cam is proving to make combat a lot more enjoyable even as it is. I don't want to switch back now, even if moving characters is awkward. In normal mode you don't even see the names of abilities your own companions use and can only guess!
