Well, this is odd. TW1 combat wasn't spam clicking. If you did that you would die. In fact it was less spam clicking than DA:I.

Quite right, you really had to pay attention. On normal I quasi-sleepwalked through DA:I however, with the exception of some tougher combats like the dragon encounters. Although I wouldn't say 'having to pay attention' makes combat better per se...

I would never ever want Dragon Age to feel like it rips off Witcher in the same way I feel DA:I rips off WoW (AND Witcher 2 because dat L3 search mechanic... you're getting warmer and warmer, Bioware...) but amen to what OP says. Forget the LGBT pandering and focus on creating your gritty dark fantasy world again. You've been played by all the gaming media and hypocrisy claiming you're misogynist Bioware. Hell, you even offended the people you're trying to please through these dumb decisions: http://tay.kotaku.co...fant-1662330835

Actually, we've had at least two. The first one was locked ages ago....

Well, if anyone wants to check out the first Witcher game (enhanced/ultimate/whatever edition,) it's up on GOG for $1.85.  :P

You can include as many gender and sexuality and race minorities in your new IP ,as long as its how it's established from the get-go, but I'm ****** sick of you backpedaling, changing and retconning everything between every title in every IP since Mass Effect in order to pander to fools and babies.

It's probably worth $1.85.

I maintain the damn thing is nigh unplayable, but to each their own.

I didn't enjoy it either, but I figure that ~$2 is enough for the curious.  If someone tries it and likes it, I hope they have fun.  :)

Not to mention that Mass Effect wasn't even the first Bioware game to do this. They've been doing it since the beginning.

Baldur's Gate had minorities and women.
KOTOR had a homosexual woman(first confirmed lesbian in Star Wars history in fact).
Jade Empire had bisexuals.

These came out years before Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

The problem is not Bio including minorities and women in the game. Its that we see as many women in an army as we do men. This is a MEDIEVAL-fantasy. At least give us a background as to why women are considered equal in all scenarios to men.

And we see many minority races throughout different regions for no reason. Take the ES series for exampke. The Redguard(fav race) has a very detailed background and lore behind them. So we can understand why we see Redguard in different regions.

If both of my points are actually adressed in the DA lore then let me know and I'll back down on my stance. But it seems that we have so many mixed races all from the same regions which ruins potential culture and ethnic diversity in the game.

During DAO's development. Dan Tudge used the phrase "dark and gritty" incessantly.

Women are allowed in the game because it is a FANTASY, plus in the world the religion has a higher view on female leadership along with women likely being accepted because Andraste a warrior woman is the biggest figure for Thedas.

All darker skinned characters are assumed to have ancestry from Rivain and Antiva

Let's not forget one of the most oddest choices during the ad campaign: Marilyn Manson.  I own Holywood (the album the song is off of) and I started laughing my ass off when I saw an online commercial back in 2009 with "This is the New Sh*t."  I love Origins, but they did try to push that "dark and gritty" thing too far.   I'm glad they learned from that and started doing ads for future games that had bits of the main theme.

I mean...really?  For those that haven't seen it, here it is in all it's "Trying Too Damn Hard" glory.  The quality isn't great (hunted and couldn't find a better upload,) but this is one of the official trailers.  It's got the uncensored version of the song, so heads up if you're at work/around those that might be offended:

Spoiler

Edit: Anyone catch that Loghain almost looks like a hero in this trailer and that the Grey Wardens are some kind of bad guy?  Or was that just me?

I don't blame BioWare for that.  Going by the date, that sounds like the EA marketing department thought that would be a good choice.  They failed on that one.  :P

I tried to play Witcher 1 couldn't get into the combat. Real shame as I liked the cutscenes. I just don't think I can play it.

DAO>Witcher2>DA2>DAI

This isn't an Poke any anyone other than DAI as I couldn't finish Witcher 2 either without watching someone play it for me. I have a thing about I must play then in order or have someone else stream it.

It's just something in the aggregate, there's things here and there that either game does better than the other at times.

Here it is in HD

Spoiler

Here is for DA:I

Spoiler

Now watch them both closely.

DAO, A lot of blood, aggressiveness, epic battles, few "suggestive" shots here and there - you can feel the atmosphere. Dark and  gritty

DAI. Just watch the first encounter few seconds into the trailer. There are LASERS shooting ??? Dragon age: Star Wars ? Then look at the peeps during the batles like viviene doing some laughable dance with that staff in the middle of the fight.

Everyone and their clothes are perfectly clean like they just bathed and did the laundry. Sterility on every step. And the colors ... entire game is full of vibrant colors and it looks sooooo plastic. Especially glaring during the battles with all those colourful particles and effects  flying all around.

Impression from both of the trailers:

DA:O violent, brutal, dark game. Fantasy horror ? Something like that

DA:I Disney-like style with everything clean and sweet. And of course mass of "cool" elements.

And of course Sir Marlyin Manson vs ... uhm ... some lame soundtrack

It's not just swooning but effectively throwing sex at him as a reward (e.g. the elf and Ves, in fact especially Ves and how they play off her rape). At the same time TW2 has a really endearing portrayal for Triss which was a scene that - at the time - was far stronger than anything Bioware did.

It still is far stronger than anything Bioware has done, certainly in DA. Maybe ME1 had a few things going for it.. and if you don't count BG which was pretty much just an accident of the technology how characters came across.

I agree, in part. The lore for various races is not well established. Elves and dwarves are more or less ripped off from the usual places. I find it hilarious that David Gaider proudly said "I'm not having any Scottish dwarves in my world" and then pretty much just stole their appearance, culture, combat styles, and love of stone from Tolkien and others.

Equality isn't the kind of thing that has to be justified. And as I said in the thread on this article that got dredged up here too: people's comical ignorance of history aside, the kind of identity politics people think existed in medieval times didn't actually exist. Gender segregation in the way people think being the biggest one, but racism and nationality being two even bigger ones.

Dear NEW Bioware,

I beg you. Please be more like Witcher 3, Dragon Age Origins and the OLD Bioware.  I mean this from the bottom of my heart. Please return to what you used to be.

Let's just pretend Dragon Age 2 & Inquisition never happened. You got a clean slate.

GIVE US DRAGON AGE ORIGINS 2 without any trace of politically correct concept. Give us dark, evil, sinister, chaotic, violent content.

Sincerely,

EvilSuirazul

Witcher forums > All topics about Witcher with perhaps 3-4 topics unrelated to game!

DA:I forums > All topics related to anything not DAI(all topics are about DAO,ME,Witcher compare stuff and even COD?) while topics about actual DAI are at 0!

I seriously love this forum  :P
