I've always liked Geralt's default do the most tbh. The shaved sides + ponytail is close too, but I never really changed from the default.

I just like watching Geralt's hair flow majestically in the breeze I guess. It seems to have a mind of its own sometimes. :S

I dislike beards and long hair, so the Geralt I roll with looks very different.

I actually think the story works better when Ash dies.  Kaidan is more qualified to operate the bomb and I can't see Saren falling for a distraction team.  So I leave Kaidan with the bomb then go back for him to fight Saren there.   Kaidan is level headed but that doesn't mean he'll just roll over and accept Shep working for a terrorist organization. I also buy him being chosen as a Spectre moreso than Ash, he leads his own biotic division.  But this is why I love ME, I've read so many different perspectives on these characters, along with the Geth/Quarian and Genophage choices.  The games seems to give players a bit more to work with to draw their own conclusions.  It would be nice if the DA series could at least do that.

I never really took Saren for some wildly competent tactician that sees through all of our best laid plans, since he's just a simple pawn of the reapers, just like the geth are. As for the bomb, the way I see it, anyone and everyone tending to it is going to take one for the team, and the best course of action is to leave it to anyone still standing there to hold off the geth long enough for everyone else to escape. Plus, I greatly prefer the way the scene looks when the person at the bomb still has a little fight left in them, just to see the Normandy make its escape before the explosion, and since Kaiden is the one I consider to be more qualified to deal with the nuke, well, his fate is pretty much sealed in all subsequent playthroughs. Part of it does have to do with what I think is the most logical course of action, but a big thing also is just how it really looks in the story too. For me, leaving the bomb tech behind just looks way more dramatic.

As for being a Spectre, the reason I consider this to be irrelevant to either character's qualifications is because it's all a lie, a ploy conjured up by Udina.

One of the shorter styles the hair DLC added I take it? I looked at some of them and couldn't take it, he looked like Fenris pumped with testosterone. He needs long hair and a beard for me. :P

I'd just put Geralt in the grungiest looking do. I think it makes sense for a character that traipses around the woods and hunts monsters. Ain't got time to groom.

Yeah, but I hate stupid villains, pawn or no pawn so I like the idea of him being smart enough not to follow around a distraction team. I save that thinking for the Heretic Geth. And I wouldn't want to run the risk of letting one person defend a bomb.  The Geth could easily kill that person, disable the bomb with whatever superior tech skills they have and call it a day.

I do like the idea of making a choice based on drama though.  That's why I leave Wrex alive, save the data, then sabotage the cure.  It shows how desperate Shepard is in ME3 to stop the Reapers to the point of betraying his friends. And the showdown with Wrex is just awesome.

As for Udina, I agree. But a lie should at least contain some elements of truth to be believable.  I can see how Kaidan would be qualified enough for the role. Can't see the same with Ash.

-------------

I don't like Geralt with a long beard but I do think he looks nice with his beard trimmed short.  But I think he look at his best when his beard is just coming in.  When the stubble is a bit thick.  I keep shaving it just to see it reach that point.

Full beard Geralt is pure sex.

I kinda like the mohawk pontytail hairstyle too, because it makes him look Viking as f***. :S

Hate most beards, especially Geralt's because it's white and makes him look like Santa. I keep him clean shaved with the default hair or ponytail with shaved sides. Though one time the drunk barber gave me mutton chops instead

Ponytail with shaved sides and a good bushy beard is the way to go with Geralt.

If you have Nvidia Hairworks on, his beard actually grows out a sort of dark-grey colour.

My copy of the TW3 should be in today, and I thought I'd ask this thread for advice. Short of playing the first two games, does anyone have any suggestions for the best ways to acquaint myself with the lore before I play? I've read the tv tropes description, so I have a rough idea of what a witcher is and what that means in terms of how the world reacts to you. Anything else I should look up?

Hmm, CDPR released a recap video of the first game. Don't think there's one for the second game however.

This guy does a pretty solid overview of the entire series, books and all. I do think some basic understanding of the events of the books helps TW3 a lot.

It's a pretty crazy story though, so it's kind of hard to briefly summarize. It'd be like briefly summing up Game of Thrones. :S

Thanks. I figured it was a tall order, asking for a summary. But I'm hoping that with a little research and by paying attention to context clues in the game I can avoid being completely lost.

I doubt you will be lost too much
Unlike TW2, TW3 is quite newcomer friendly, you don't need to read the books or play the games to get whats going on although those will enhance your enjoyment

I think the game does a pretty good job at introducing you to the world, there's a lot of journal entries about characters and events in the game should you feel the need to delve deeper into the lore.

The game does do a good job of building everything up on its own, yeah...but I do feel like a few things, like the relationships between some characters (ie Geralt and Ciri) would lose a bit of their umph without the books.

There's also a lot of 'Ah! My old friend!' kind of moments that would probably be lost on some people.

Well, I can read pretty quickly. But there are several novels, right? I don't know if I want to start at the beginning and read all of them. Is there one in particular I should pick up if I go that route?

The beard i can give or take, but Geralt without long hair is not Geralt anymore for me.

I think there are five. I've only read the first three.

Though you might try "The Last Wish" and "The Sword of Destiny", both are collections of short stories that set up the events of the books. Compliment that with the first book "The Blood of Elves" and I think you'll have a strong grasp on most of the characters involved.

You won't be. TW3 is the first game to ease you into the world, whereas the first two tossed you right into the thick of it. Only advice I would have is be prepared for anachronisms. The Witcher draws liberally from modern dialects, technology, tropes etc. It can be immersion breaking at the outset, but will feel like it belongs later on.

I'm a little obsessed with crossbows. Before release, I was hoping against hope for them to be an option in DAI.

So, crossbows are one thing that The Witcher has that I wish DAI did.
