I quite enjoy the music in ME; the repetitive short pieces and all the series Techno cabin options being exceptions. Am currently replaying the series now, and as with most soundtracks, it is only the annoying things that tend to catch my attention (eg; squeezebox Tavern music in NWN1). Bioware tracks are rather well done; have had no compulsion to change them.

Off-topic but quick

Is there a remastered ME trilogy in the works? I want to replay the trilogy but if the rumors are true of PS4/Xbone remaster then I will wait

Let's forget DA:I for a second. You thought the garbage that was ME1's track - aside from the wonderful Virmire theme and the main theme - was better than "the most awful thing ever"? That's the shocker.

What? ME1 had a great soundtrack, you are exaggerating, "garbage" seriously?

And I personally liked Inon Zur more even though his soundtracks could have used more variety

DA:I's soundtrack isn't bad but just doesn't fit DA in my opinion (too generic fantasy, can't remember one good track, DA:O at least had the special & iconic main theme)

ME1's soundtrack was awful. Like I said, the best track was Virmire. But I can't wrap my head around the DA:I soundtrack being generic. Ignoring all of the wonderful tavern songs, the main theme, Dawn Will Come, we've got:

1. The In Your Heart Shall Burn track.

2. The Temple of Mythal track.

3. The finding Skyhold track.

Vigil is probably ME1's best and most memorable track other than the main theme. The rest just reminds me of trudging along some desolate wasteland in the Mako.

Yea outside of Virmire and Vigil ME1's soundtrack was just bland

DA:I's soundtrack was painfully generic but even though DA:O and DA2's soundtrack were better, the ME Trilogy clearly beats DA in the soundtrack department imho

BSN being obsessed over romance doesn't mean Bioware is making it the main focus

Is it? I hope so

However the numbers don't comfort me

DAO= 4 romances

DAII=  5 romances

DAI=   8 romances

is a law of physics that says:
In Thedas the size of the world and the number of romances at your disposal is inversely proportional to the length of the main story and to the depth of the side quests

There are exactly two good songs on that list, and that's 1 and 3. ME1's music is just garbage. I mean this is the most generic orchestral track you can get:

Both DA:O and ME1's soundtrack are rife with plodding game music, which serves its purpose well enough so that the game has a constant sound in the background, but it sure makes for poor listening. Mass Effect 2 and 3 are much better about atmospheric music and where to apply it.

DAO soundtrack for me fits the nit and grit of the game perfectly. Nothing can ever top the camp song, leliana's song or that song in the battle of Denerim. ME 1 was not that great. Some good ones in ME2 and I reaally like that track where the reapers landed on earth in ME3, really gives that hopeless vibe.

I actually kind of like the way Leliana's song sounds, but man that corny moment in the game kind of ruined it for me lol

I felt like gender politics and romances were both absolutely massive priorities for bioware along with mmo elements. The main story seemed to be an afterthought.

If they do that, hopefully they include the DLC this time unlike the "trilogy" collection released.

Don't know, but the old ME trilogy is currently on sale; includes some DLC for ME1 and ME2.

Here's hoping they will announce something at E3

                                                                                             <<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>

2015 is all about ME4 and the reboot of Star Wars: Battlefront.

So, I definitely expect some addtional info. E3 is just too much of an opportunity not to show/announce the status of upcoming games on both of them.  I'm sick and tired of Bio "leaking" useless tidbits in a pathetic attempt to generate hype, given how I'm still waiting for my PC version of DAI.

Enough, already, Bio! Give us something or shut up!

End of rant :P

I'm kind of surprised most people didn't know that, they are definite massive priorities, although I don't think the main story was an afterthought. It's all related really.

I think I mentioned in another thread that Bioware was founded by doctors, it was a sort of social justice enterprise from the beginning, it's just the message more recently has been more of a kind of "listen to me you cur!" instead of "look at this cool idea" sort of experience.

DA needs to get back to having its own identity, and not try to be a patchwork of whatever "kewl" elements they can rip off from other games.

DA has its own identity, which after the success of DAI, is like DAI.

I expect DA4 to be most like DAI, but I hope with:

  • Better / more cinematic side quests
  • Improved tactical combat
  • Improved use of destructibles and mechanics held back by last gen.

But DAI and Frostbite 3 are the basis of that identity.

If DAI is the identity of DA, a lot of the things I see in it are scary to imagine being for DA4. Just an opinion from myself.

I suspect the reason for the tactical camera not pulling back far enough are purely technical issues (LOD, etc), that being said I'm one of those people who thinks combat in the series has been taking a turn for the worse ever since it became more 'action'-based.

The problem I have with the direction the series is taking is that it has no 'focus', as an action game DA:I is laughable and compared to traditional tactical gameplay such as presented in Pillars of Eternity or Divinity: Original Sin, what we have in Inquisition is lacking in depth.

None of the dragon age games feels like they are a part of the same universe, it's like with each installment they actually wanted to make another game but couldnt because DA was suppossed to be a franchise, which would also explain why they all feel so disconnected.

It's hard to immersive yourself in a world that is being constantly retconned and redesigned and why should i even bother when things i have grown accustomed to is gone in the next installment for no apparent reason.

The things in DA that were bad has remained bad, meanwhile for some mindboggling reason the things that were good have also gone bad, cutting down on cinematic dialogue to the point where it's barely recognisable, on top of that remove nearly all meaningful sidequests in favor of fetch quests.

I shouldnt forget to mention Biowares masterfull skill "don't show, tell them instead" something that should be the other way around.

In the end Bioware has reached a point where they cant fully deliver on any plane.

-Main story and plot is significantly shorter than before and features some of the most stupid writing i have ever come across (Corypheus).

-Companions and even noncompanions have for the most part been reduced to "can they be my waifu/husbando" something that i think Bioware does not even like but still accommodates.

-Dialogue and Sidequest have been cut in favor of a load of insignificant MMO styled fetch quests and grinding.

-The combat is nowhere good enough to justify the amount of time spent on it.

If you cut all your meaningfull side activitys in favor of tedious grinding, your combat needs to be bloody good which it isn't -.-

-All the interesting lore is buried behind a bunch of tedious **** just to be read in a codex,

This works in Dark Souls since that games main focus is it's fantastic combat, it doesnt work here.

-Save import.........what's the point of it if it's either retconned of reduced to a minor cameo or reference, makes it feel like unnecessary fanservice instead of actually serving a purpose in the story and make the games feel connected.

Ultimately i might ill just play Divinity, it's a Fantasy game that has Dragons, might aswell be a Dragon Age title.

While i prefer more tactical combat in games, i.e. turned-based or RTWP, i do really enjoy action-based combat as well. My issue with DA:I's combat is that it tries to do both but fails to do any of them really good/enjoyable. Lacks depth for the more tactical combat and isn't responsive enough for more action-based combat.

It's just a frustrating experience no matter the playstyle.
