I agree with the cutscenes. To me a lot of emotion could not be achieved in TW3 if it was two wooden mannequins just standing, wiggling and staring at each other. Can you imagine if the entire Baron quest went like that? ugh.

Exactly, that's why dragon age origins felt more real, and inquisition feels like a damned MMO. Alistair and even most basic NPCs had expressions, most of the characters in inquisition feel like wooden cutouts.

it's hard to care when a wooden cutout talks.

I don't think you have played many MMOs in the past. Or any at all.

And what does DAI being or not being like an MMO have to do with character animations? Do you even know what you're complaining about anymore, or have the buzzwords just sort of melded together to form an incoherent mess?

You can be as big a jerk as you want, but that doesn't change the fact the story is being presented in a fashion similar to WOW, much less personal then the style of origins. Fetch questing by fairly static characters who feel somewhat wooden. Played quite a few MMos honestly, and they never felt as lively or personal as dragon age or mass effect in the way they're presented.

Characters in origins were more animated then anyone in WOW, that's just simple truth. I feel like inquisition characters are presented more like that then they were in origins.

Should be pretty self explanatory.

Must you be so rude to everyone you disagree with? Conversation and discussions will flow much better if you stop taking every disagreeable comment so personally.

Finally finished a quest for Keira that had been sitting there for a while and holy cow did I feel sucker punched in the end. It's so rare for a game to punish you for trying to be a goody two shoes. I like it. :D

What's what I appreciated in Bloodborne too to a degree, and understood why people also don't like bloodbornes side missions.

Try to be the good guy? more people get hurt 8'(

TW did a lot better in that regard, for making it more balanced and less "HAH!!! You tried to help someone but you did more damage!".

I appreciate a good mindscrew myself.

The Baron's Quest, "Family Matters." Oh man. Hands down best quest I've seen in a game to date. I am not one to get all emotional. But after that quest, major feels.

The last time I felt that good of a mindscrew from a BW game was KOTOR.

I've been putting that quest off for a while because I just keep getting so distracted! I was about 80% to the end before I started a different one and found out they were somehow related! Unreal.

In the first Witcher, early on in the quest series, I allowed a group of elves to take the weapons and supplies from a scumbag npc. I was really surprised that it came back to haunt me later when a scumbag Fisstec dealer died. My younger Geralt thinks life isn't cheap and tries to avoid getting involved. He could justify that the elves needed those supplies to survive, but at the end of the day, he helped supply a no lifers demise.

Ogre feels.

Don't mean to overhype this or anything.. but the Baron's quest was the highlight of the TW3 storyline for me. :)

I agree. It was an amazing quest from start to finish. Such a great array of characters and just the while story behind the Baron and his wife. Loved it.

Why play DAI at all if you;re so bitter to begin with OP? Doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The game is a great game; that being said it's not without its issues and could use some DLC for single player but it's leagues away from DA2. And I tend to be pretty involved with my games, I cried when I watched my Commander Shepard I had played with across 2 platforms for 4 years blew up at the end of ME3, my feelings were hurt by how they messed up the ending and donated to the cause to fix it. DAI is a great game you can't compare it to the Witcher, different game engine different game.

I will attempt to answer that -- I think he was excited for a chance of "redemption" after DA2 for Dragon Age and found that DAI was also a disappointment (Unless he, like myself found DA2 to actually be good). It's fine voicing one's dissatisfaction with a product. This thread is 192 pages of random, but mostly constructive feedback too thanks to his disappointment.

A lot of us were pretty let down but the removal of so much we've come to expect from dragon age such as tactics, the seriously short story, and the replacement of quality side missions with chores and fetch quests that don't even have unique party commentary.

We may whine, but we're discussing the game because we love the series. For me, there were several points where i felt actual disappointment, and that's a damned shame in a series i truly love.

I expect OP is similar.

It's not a great game though, it's a pretty game, but it doesn't have much substance.

I don't think he said it was a fact -- I think he said quite a few people felt let down by DAI. Opinion is not fact.

And he may believe that, as may others. This does not equate to DAI not being a great title which evidence shows to be a rather significant hit.

It was a hit because of the great hype and great many promises. Then the hype died at release for some. I know when I bought it, its going to be lacking, because of too many things they are attempting on new IP.

When I bought it, I had no high hopes, but I'm a self confessed Bioware fangirl.

Hopefully, they have learned more about the IP and things are going to roll again on the next installment. ...Provided they dont get greedy again and attempt to cater on the last gens.

While That might possibly explain launch and pre-order sales, that does not explain the myriad of reviews by both Players and professionals, but the GOTY awards, too.

IGN and some other sites yeah, high scores and marks. Metacritic for user scores are much more chaotic in terms of ratings. You get the 10/10's and then you get the 2/10's and they go into wall of texts to justify either spectrum.

You just happen to be in the subset that the 10/10 score applies to.

The opinion is that this wasn't a great game is just that, an opinion. Looking at the reviews on other websites it isn't just a fraction of people who say it was an okay game. It's all subjective and comes down to personal taste. It was a great game for you, not for everyone.

The most charmingly written ugly fat drunken brute NPC I have seen for I dunno how long? Ever maybe? Despite all his faults... I genuinely felt sorry for him.

No; I do not grant Metacritic any credibility at all, even if here are still valid scores scattered there. The site allows for non-users to vote, utilizes flawed math towards results, and as mentioned, allows for great numbers of extreme scores at launch or earlier which also skews totals.

Still have 100+ GOTY Awards form varied sources including those from outside the industry, and more reasonable reviews from elsewhere. While these are still only opinions, tis a great number of them and are as valued as those decrying the game.

Your willing to ignore quite a few reviews from actual users? I suppose this conversation is a pointless circle then. My point will always remain, there will be people who say it's a great game and there will be others that will deny it. It's subjective, and the internet's vast amount of reviews easily show that it varies from person to person and not just in a small number.

And again, this much is true. But other indicators such as sales, Awards, and quite a large number of reviews disagree. Here is hoping that TW3 and DA4 are as successful.

Meanwhile, the FFVII remake is a go as of E3 yesterday.  This is an official trailer and it isn't a fake:
