Dear god don't say anything negative about FFXII, I had someone jump at me with a spoon threateningly when I said Meh. He tried to go for my eye!

I saw that spoon thing in The Witcher 2, ugh....  :pinched:

Wait, so if I understand it correctly, you are currently re-doing the TW1 playthrough again, but this time with Scoia'Tael and next time as Neutral, before moving to TW2? Man, that takes some dedication, hah!

I finished TW1 only twice and both of them were Neutral playthroughs (I wasn't satisfied with the first one).

As for the canon "book" Geralt, I sadly can only recommend the books for the best description (or worst case scenario: Youtube videos or wikia).

I am sure audio books of the saga exist (at least they do in my language), but not sure if it's fully in English.

Basically, if I had to narrow it down, I'd probably say the best way to describe him as such would be : Neutral (taking no sides), loyal to friends or people who helped him (Siegfried in the sewers) but still having a code of honor of sorts (saving people/nonhumans in need. But not in a pompous trumpet way).

Oh and of course, again shameless advertising: I suggest you give the Rise of the White Wolf mod a try! It's basically a very lore-friendly texture pack that helps the continuity between the games! Like the Raven armor looking like the TW2 counterpart, Geralt looking more like in subsequent games, Triss having freckles, the Witchers wearing their TW3 outfits etc and overall the entire game looking much better in a very canon way.

It's also very highly modular so you can pick only things you'd want. :)

Decided to download it, plus a bunch of mods. I really just wanna play it for the story and not the amazing combat but maybe this time I'll actually use alchemy hah.

The map looked the same to me and I didn't get lost.  Everything looked right in the same area as before.  I knew when I had walked into the Arl's old room as well as Conner's without checking the map.  I remembered the two small rooms right by one of the stairs.  I knew where I was at in the cells, because I remembered where Jowan was in Origins.   I could tell when I was getting close to the Courtyard, because aside from all the red lyrium, it looked exactly the same to me.

Redcliffe Village was rebuilt after the undead attacks, but I have seen nothing in the EU or supplementary material for this game that said that applied to Redcliffe Castle.  If I missed something, would you mind tossing me a link?  I could be wrong, but this is the first I've heard of this.

The layout maybe the same. I recognize some familiarity in RedCliff as well but to be honest, if I were to watch a trailer of RedCliff  without knowing it is RedCliff, I would never recognize it as RedCliff.

Due to design and art style inconsistency from one game to the other and the fact that Bioware does not really put effort into designing detail cities, towns etc in DA games. Therefore they have nothing really iconic. Most of the places in DA game is like a stage built temporarily for a play/story telling.

Example, the new FFVII trailer I saw, I can recognize Midgar immediately. In Skyrim, I can recognize Morrowind region immediately. Just by looking at screen shots, I can tell. These places are iconic, unique and you know that the developers put a heap load of effort in its initial design.

The most iconic place in Bioware game to me is the Citadel in Mass Effect... unfortunately the interior just keeps getting smaller

I wouldn't recommend the "run faster" mod unless you want everyone scurrying around like hyperactive children.

Anchovies are the worst, I objectively know it to be the worst because professional reviewests...!!! say that it's bad.

Pineapples are better because professional reviews have arbitrary reasons for why and it's well known!

It's like subjectivity shares the same meaning with objectivity...

I would much rather have anchovies on a pizza than pineapple..., yuch!  Actually, anchovies are quite good on pizza as long as you break them into small pieces and don't use too much.

Just came back to this thread after a few weeks of Witcher 3.  For anyone holding back on playing it for some reason or another, you are really missing out on a treat.  Incredibly fun to play, and there is always something new to capture your attention.  Pretty much been loving it, it just seems so well thought out and put together.

One thing I think is interesting is the leveling system, where if you start getting too over leveled, it gives you fewer experience points so that your level doesn't get to far ahead.  What do people thing about that?  Has that been used on many games before?

I agree. Redcliffe was nothing like the original layout. I recall my first reaction walking into the town, "This is Redcliffe?" I also found it a bit strange there was a statue to the "Hero of Ferelden". It felt out of place as if it belongs in Denerim. I have a feeling since we could not go to Denerim, the developers just placed the statue in Redcliffe instead. Ugh.

Val R. was another disappointment - big time.  I was looking forward to seeing this city, doing side-quests, getting lost, checking out the markets etc. Instead we were given this tiny section that was just glammed up to look like Val R. The section we do have is extremely small for a city that is suppose to be the second largest in Thedas. There was nothing to do here other then to buy a few recipes and books, along with whatever quest took you to this city. Oh you want to see the Grand Catherdal? Too bad. What about the White Spire or the Circle Tower, well your s**t out of luck there too. Hell Fable 3 was bad, but damn at least it had actual towns and cities.

So yes, most of the place we run across in DAI do feel more like stages then feeling like your apart of the world.  In Witcher 3, well, hands down I was amazed by the size of places and how much detail was involved from the town/city to the people. Granted the Emperor's Castle was a bit lack -luster, but I am willing to ignore that since the rest of the game was so involved when it comes to making you feel like this world is alive. Walking past a drunk in a city and seeing him unzip his pants to take a p*ss, the developers of The Witcher 3 certainly left nothing out, LOL!

The vast majority of people are reporting the opposite. You actually get over leveled by the late game, and main quests are too easy.

Ya, definitely happening, but it seems as if it's trying to hold your level back a bit when you do quests below your level.  I've done a lot of exploring and stuff off the quest line, which boosted up my level, but now when I do a quest below my level it only gives me 5 exp points sometimes.

I find myself becoming increasingly addicted to Gwent. I spent four hours running around challenging everyone trying to get every single card. Is this real? Someone actually found a way to make collectibles fun in a game! Bravo CDPR! (I wouldn't be opposed to a Gwent mobile app either and I'm one who usually scoffs at mobile games.)

That's been standard practice in most games (that I've played) that award experience points for some time now.

I wonder if the popularity of Gwent was planned, or happy circumstance.

Either way they ought to strike while the iron is hot and take advantage of it.

I've just finished the game after 168 hours and 23 minutes. I really don't know what to say now. Had to sit down after that and comprehend that it just ended..

It has been an epic, very epic ride. Both emotional and fullfilling and more than a worthy finisher of the saga about Geralt of Rivia. When I thought the game would end (Kaer Morhen battle), it just went on, strong as ever. The final bosses were more than entertaining to fight and even the ending has left me totally content and satisfied, which is not something that can be said for many games of this decade (got the 'very good' ending).
And the music? The epic fantasy soundtrack, the slavic-tune, the signature Witcher melody.. just perfect.

While it may lack CC, it makes up for it in almost every other department that makes an RPG. It may not have your waifu/husbando Bioware romances (Yen and Triss romances are not as expansive, but you have to remember it's built on an established character and history), but the dynamic relationship between Ciri and Geralt is just much more emotional and deep than anything I've ever experienced. And that's just a daughter-father relationship.

It even barely tops Deus Ex, my favourite RPG of all time.

For me it's GOTY 2015. I have no idea what Fallout 4 might be (coming out in November), but probably just another 200 hours wasteland safari/theme park with plot as an afterthought and terrible dialogue. I seriously doubt it's gonna beat TW3, at least for me.

But is it the ultimate, best game ever? Of course not, it has its flaws but for me The Witcher 3 has just set the bar. A bar that I will use to measure all other RPGs in the future.

I dearly hope that Bioware will take notice of TW3 and its positives for the future (so that it could be just as good, or maybe even better?). Taking inspiration from quality might be much better than taking pointers solely from sold units (Skyrim).

In any case, I need to go back to contemplating again about the fact that TW3 just ended, heh. Will do a second playthrough, maybe even replay the entire series again.. but as they say, nothing compares to the first one. :)

My utmost respect, applause and standing ovation to CDPR.

I have finished the main story, but still have some unvisited locations in Skellige left, and I haven't won the Gwen tournament yet. Hadn't done it by the time I found Ciri, and then just felt I couldn't leave my friends alone for a card tournament... I had to see it through to the end. :D

I did run off and collected the new wolf armor set after the main storyline was finished though.

Overall, the game has left me very, very impressed. It is not without its own problems, but it does so many things so well that I found the overall experience breathtaking.

To stay on topic for at least a moment - here are some other things that worked better in TW3 than in DA:

The "decide who dies" moments. "Reason of State" did that miles better than "Demands of the Qun".

Picking a kingdom's new ruler, something that DA likes to do too. You, the player, get to decide Skellige's next king or queen, but without any character ever asking Geralt for his opinion, as it should be. He is a frigging outsider, after all.

And the ending I got was...

True, The Witcher 3 does have flaws, But all games do, though more then others. There is no perfect game, we may all wish that to happen but realistically it will never be. When you compare W3 to DAI though, the amount of flaws are not as large. DAI is already up to,... what is it now? Eight patches? For a single player game that is a bit ludicrous in my opinion. Funny too since W3 has so much more then DAI.  Now, I am not saying DAI is the worst game ever, its just OK, epseically after playing W3 my expectations for games like these have gone even higher. Its like DAI is a piece of chocolate candy and W3 is the key to the chocolate factory.

.

As for Gwent, yep, I'm addicted. However do to a bug I was unable to collect all the cards my first play-through. I will do my best to get them on the second run.

And since I am playing Witcher one, I can understand all the groans and moans about the swamp. Ugh! I hate that place.

I haven't really got into Gwent but I did enjoy all the fist fights and actually became overall champion of all the areas, enjoying the horse races this time round (second playthrough).

Given how much I am enjoying W3 and how much better it is than DAI (and the fact it has free dlc including extra quests etc...) it will be a very long time before I return to DAI as for the DAI dlc well I may buy it if the price comes down but not at full price, it just isn't worth the extra money especially given DAI was more expensive than W3 to start with. Looking forward to the W3 expansions too.

I loved the Geralt/Ciri relationship way more than any romantic relationship I've ever seen in any game.  It was really emotional at times, very compelling and having Geralt's relationship to Ciri be the main factor in how good the ending ends up is a beautiful touch.

After finishing the Witcher 3 I finished the book series, replayed the first Witcher and starting the second now for a full saga play-through.

It really is a beautiful story and as much as I'd like to look forward to another Geralt adventure I'm also aware his story in games is over (future DLC aside) and I am very satisfied with the way this story ended.

I personally feel annoyed by prophecy style characters that excel way beyond other characters. It's one of the reasons why I dislike the inquisitor.

The wardens only real power is being able to kamikaze himself or herself into the arch demon. Not being so varied and nigh Immortal.
