I personally feel annoyed by prophecy style characters that excel way beyond other characters. It's one of the reasons why I dislike the inquisitor.

The wardens only real power is being able to kamikaze himself or herself into the arch demon. Not being so varied and nigh Immortal.

Yeah, the warden being a low level recruit was nice, and even alistair was pretty green at the start.

The Warden wasn't low level. Again, you're comically misunderstanding DA:O's plot. You were meant to be a badass from the start. It's actually the gameplay that's nonsense. Duncan specifically recruits you because of how amazing you are, and comes to every origin with that goal in mind.

I'd argue if anything the origin story makes them 'the badass'. Nice condescending tone there too.

Grey wardens were mass recruiting anyone with a decent set of skills as the blight was just upon them too. Duncan happened to be a senior grey warden but others were conscripting prisoners and exiles as well, last resorters. It wasn't just "Your guy is a special snowflake", they were usually in undesirable circumstances and Duncan just happened to be the one to conscript you because he was in the right place at the right time.

Duncan recruits you because you have potential and yes some skill. You played a very different game from me, and I played it less than a month ago. I was also anything but badass with my standard iron sword fighting darkspawn in the tower.

You might hate being "shoehorned" into being a warden, but replay the origins, my character was barely an adult and this was his first real battle.

You and I will never agree, so it's best we not talk about it. Feel free to go fight the archdemon without levelling your characters, and if you win, we can talk about how the warden started off as a badass.

The Warden was never a bad ass in the start, there is actually a point in the game that tells you that you reached the experience worthy of a Grey Warden. It is called The Dead Trenches in the Deep roads. Every Origin in the game has the PC start with some combat experience, but they were never over the top, and it is about him seeing something special in you. It is about beeing a brother in arms, beeing part of something greater and sacrificing yourself for it.

God i miss DA:O, what a masterpiece.

So yes, most of the place we run across in DAI do feel more like stages then feeling like your apart of the world.  In Witcher 3, well, hands down I was amazed by the size of places and how much detail was involved from the town/city to the people. Granted the Emperor's Castle was a bit lack -luster, but I am willing to ignore that since the rest of the game was so involved when it comes to making you feel like this world is alive. Walking past a drunk in a city and seeing him unzip his pants to take a p*ss, the developers of The Witcher 3 certainly left nothing out, LOL!

Yes, the level of detail in TW3 is unreal.

I dont know if others notice this, but I was walking in White Orchid near the inn and suddenly the dude walking in front of me stopped to rub his foot on the ground, I took a closer look and notice that there are actually poo on the ground and he just stepped on it.  :D  :D  :D I have been pretty careful where I place my foot since.

   For those pissing busta, I walked around a tree once and find myself being showered by a soldier taking a leak!!!! Then he farted and laughed. Grrrr....

These are tiny things, ambients but I cant help but feel that CDPR put more effort into these ambient events than most modern game developers put in their side quests.

Also, the order where you choose conversation options will sometime yield different response as well and it just makes them feel so much more organic.

Well I don't know about green/low level...either you start by clearing about a dungeon twice, slaughter all the gaurds of an arl or win the proving and fight yourself out of the deep roads with no boots on etc. Sort of badass I would say.

The only special thing about the Inquisitor is the mark which in no way makes him/her immortal. Every Inquisitor of course has had an extensive training in matter that would make the a suitable candidate for infiltrating the conclave as well.

Your character is no more special than Alistair is or the other companions. If you are implying that being capable of defeating grunts at low level is badass, I don't know.

The inquisitor can plug holes in the sky with his/her hand. That's very snowflakey considering no one else but (s)he can.

Yeah of course, grunts. And the mabaris are puppies...And yes the Inuisitor can seal rifts but what does the help her/him when your grunts come running? It really doesn't take long for your warden to rise to the ranks of rather "special snowflake", maybe not entirely unique but very close to. And as for the mark and being uniqe, there surely are ways to get the mark from you, given time and research. However none of the people in charge surrounding you are ready to go that route. Speculation of course but there are always alternative ways.

I've just finished the game after 168 hours and 23 minutes. I really don't know what to say now. Had to sit down after that and comprehend that it just ended..

It has been an epic, very epic ride. Both emotional and fullfilling and more than a worthy finisher of the saga about Geralt of Rivia. When I thought the game would end (Kaer Morhen battle), it just went on, strong as ever. The final bosses were more than entertaining to fight and even the ending has left me totally content and satisfied, which is not something that can be said for many games of this decade (got the 'very good' ending).
And the music? The epic fantasy soundtrack, the slavic-tune, the signature Witcher melody.. just perfect.

While it may lack CC, it makes up for it in almost every other department that makes an RPG. It may not have your waifu/husbando Bioware romances (Yen and Triss romances are not as expansive, but you have to remember it's built on an established character and history), but the dynamic relationship between Ciri and Geralt is just much more emotional and deep than anything I've ever experienced. And that's just a daughter-father relationship.

It even barely tops Deus Ex, my favourite RPG of all time.

For me it's GOTY 2015. I have no idea what Fallout 4 might be (coming out in November), but probably just another 200 hours wasteland safari/theme park with plot as an afterthought and terrible dialogue. I seriously doubt it's gonna beat TW3, at least for me.

But is it the ultimate, best game ever? Of course not, it has its flaws but for me The Witcher 3 has just set the bar. A bar that I will use to measure all other RPGs in the future.

I dearly hope that Bioware will take notice of TW3 and its positives for the future (so that it could be just as good, or maybe even better?). Taking inspiration from quality might be much better than taking pointers solely from sold units (Skyrim).

In any case, I need to go back to contemplating again about the fact that TW3 just ended, heh. Will do a second playthrough, maybe even replay the entire series again.. but as they say, nothing compares to the first one. :)

My utmost respect, applause and standing ovation to CDPR.

Agreed wholeheartedly. although theres a few annoying things like clunky movement, glitches, bugs and some characters doing stupid **** and out of character choices (Dijkstra) etc

still, Witcher 3 sets a standard for me as well, as far as roleplaying games go.

I fail to see the logical reasoning of the first bold. It doesn't take your inquisitor long either for rising in the ranks, from convict to herald of Andraste, founding member to leader of a mega powerful faction itself.

Your warden is just one guy/gal, If you died, there would be other wardens ready to sacrifice themselves. We all saw the future that was in store for Thedas if the inquisitor fails. yes someone else theoretically can take their place, but they didn't. Considering Corypheous couldn't effectively combat the mark itself I'm going to maintain the inquisitor is snowflake level. Also considering that there weren't that many elf relics left that could bestow that very mark adds to how special your character is.

For a moment I actually kinda forgot this wasn't their real form lol. So when they changed back, I was like, "wait wtf, where did the hot ladies go? Ew!".

I know, just so embarassing on my part :D

Yep, That just shows that video games are still at the very beginning of their development.

Books and movies are much further in this regard. That's one of the reasons I love Game of Thrones so much. At least it treats both equally.

It may be because we tire of re-runs in the Summer, and such as the described was done in Conan the Barbarian decades ago.

Conan the barbarian is also a favorite of mine

For the otaku's that do know the glory of Berserk, that's my all time favorite series (It is said that Darksouls was inspired by Berserk too)

Fun fact -- violence heavily outweighs sexual content in Murricaland's programming, tired of repeats? Your still seeing people die from combat in a series. If I were to equate the scene from TW3 with Conan the Barbarian, maybe I should consider any show with guns to Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto where killing is the main part of the content.

Dumb question maybe but can you define nudity or more nudity? Do you mean something more than breasts? Again, dumb question but wouldn't that have to mean the characters would have to be "anatomically correct"?

What I mean is there's a free-camera mod for TW3 that shows Geralt isn't anatomically correct. Or at least I saw it in a link. Wouldn't look for it in a game myself.

So maybe it doesn't have to do with being prudish, even though that's an element, but rather developers never thought of having to draw/create certain parts of the body?
