If the future DA games take the same BS approach to established lore regarding main plot and story import as TW3 did, I would beg BW never to do ANYTHING like what CDPR did. At least in DA thus far you can feel/notice, in small ways, the decisions you made in previous games. TW3 outright dumped almost the entirety of its prequels' story-relevant decisions, rendering any playthrough of TW1 or 2 pointless in the process.

Least i got the blue stripes tattoo thats all that matters :P. Dont spoil me, but as far as i know certain main characters from witcher 2 return at least, and they have varying survival. Or do they return regardless?. There was a post on the main cdpr forum from a dev while people were complaining about imports and stuff. He said it came up alot during development and just not having enough resources to do everything they wanted, maybe maybe not changing in the future (enhanced edition).

Pretty much sums up the difference between TW3 and DAI.

There are tons of basic things (e.g. decent plot/dialogue writing, character interation and expression, play chioce development etc.) Bioware needs to learn from CDPR.

0:20-54 - kinda goes over how tw3 satisfied his desire for an rpg entirely

Cool that one little quest can get so many different points of view though, one thing I really liked about certain Mass Effect side quests like Overlord.

Well... I kind of just lost all my interest in my Witcher 3 play through. The same thing happened to me in Witcher 2 also, which I paid full price for as well. If only I waited for the $3 steam sale.

When I bought Witcher 2, I had a computer that couldn't run it very well so I uninstalled it. After buying my new system with 2 980s installed it it, I tried again. I really enjoyed the atmosphere in Flotsam and the story there. But...I just tolerated the controls. When I got to Chapter 2, I wasn't enjoying the atmosphere or the controls, so I uninstalled it again. I do think Chapter 1 was great, but then my interest vanished.

The reviews from this site coupled with the amazing trailer where Geralt battles a female monster, encouraged me to pick up the game. Since a lot of people said it was great even if they hated 1 and 2, I figured why not. I finished the intro area and just got to play as Ciri in a flashback after meeting Baron. Ciri was such a like able character, I wish she was the star with 5 minutes of Geralt here and there - this would have been far more fascinating. Anyway when I was forced back to Geralt I just saved my game and realized that I have been forcing myself to play this as there must be something wrong with me for not liking this...

Some thoughts before I uninstall, and admit that I should cut my losses at the $120 and about 15 hours each game in this franchise:

1. This game is a chore to play. Playing this game actually annoys me. The horse riding is terrible. The fights are awkward. Trying to find the right camera angle to loot a bookshelf makes me eventually just move on when I can't find it. Running over a flower I'm trying to harvest and having to go back and forth until I'm at an angle to pick it up is annoying. It's just not fun.

2. I just can't get into being Geralt. Especially after they teased me with the superior Ciri. I may try this franchise again if she gets her own game.

3. I miss having companions. I think Witcher 2 - Flotsam worked for me as you had your "party" to talk to at the Inn, and each party member came with me on a mission or two even if the game was mostly solo. Witcher 3 is a lonely experience. The most I can hope for so far is following an NPC for a quest. Geralt seems lonely too - he talks to himself an awful lot. I guess I took the hours and hours I could hang around Skyhold talking to people for granted.

4. The crafting system is just WTF. I must have looted 1000 things which all take up carrying weight with no clue what to keep or get rid of. Just way too much junk.

5. I don't care all that much about anyone and it's been 15 hours. I hoped to force myself to play until I get to Triss, who is my favorite aside from Ciri, but I just can't do it as I have no idea how long that would be. I didn't feel like playing through Baron so I just watched it on YouTube since everyone mentions that it's one of the stronger quests - still can't care as much as I should. Maybe because the Baron is just an impediment to moving ahead in the story and isn't a character to get attached to.

6. The world is just okay to me. The settlements aren't interesting - they are just houses to loot from, maybe a merchant and a quest board, and maybe a couple NPCs with dialogue. I thought the town near Baron would have been good buts it's no better than the villages I ran through to get there. I opened up my map of Velen, saw how large it was and was actually sad. All I saw was maybe 50 hours of galloping on that horrible horse to reach ?s.

7. The world kills roleplay and immersion. This is extra noticeable since I'm on a skyrim kick. I can't put myself in Geralts shoes because I spent most of my time looking at the map to find ?s. During his search for Ciri, I would imagine that Geralt would not be diving in the middle of the lake to find treasure, or running to the middle of nowhere to clear a nest. This is a pacing problem that DAI had as well, but DAI didn't frustrate me with the controls while doing it. Also the maps weren't as large...I just don't look forward to finding 50 ?s and spending the hours to do it.

There were things I did like - the music, the graphics were decent in 4k though the trees seemed short. I can tell this is a grittier environment and they show more than tell. But it's just not enough to overcome the feeling that it's a chore to play, and that I would rather be playing something else. I just don't have enough free time to force it. I do hope DAI learns from the quest design though.

I can see why people love this, but it's not for me.

Well, I am sorry you didn't like the game and you shouldn't feel bad for not liking it. No one game is for everybody and you should play games that brings you enjoyment and entertainment value.

Even if I disagree with your review, I am glad you gave it a try before forming your opinion and I can appreciate that.

I am just happy that there are rpg's to choose from and hopefully more to come!

@london -- I liked your post because as Kbomb pointed out, you actually gave it a try. I wish you had a better time with the game. I will agree mostly with the inventory being a cluster.. I don't like it in 1 and I don't like it in 3. That said, you gave an honest feedback.

Just finished the game on blood and bones difficulty and all I can say is wow, just wow.

Amazing adventure from start to finish. I loved how dynamic the story felt.

Even in the latest Free DLC mission 'Skellege's Most wanted, just awesome how decisions made earlier in the game impacted that little quest.

Things like that and other little things made the world feel alive.

The visuals were OK, they did the job. After being blown away with Witcher 2 the Red engine has been surpassed a little, but the dynamic weather, night and day cycles etc. were all welcome though. Pity they couldn't keep the graphics as awesome as in the early demos. But I recall reading that some of those things brought top end machines with dual Titans to their knees so they probably had to do something.

Still have a lot of ?'s I didn't bother with in the end, around 50 or so in Skellige, but no real point to getting all of them. Missed a few treasure hunts, but my play style was more towards the Cat school gear which I maxed out. No point in grabbing other schematics when I'm not going to use them anyway.

The inventory is a valid complaint, I think PoE actually did that quite well with the unlimited storage bag. Hopefully the next patch brings back storage of some kind. The first games used the innkeepers as storage which worked quite well. And no I don't care that if I drop gear off with an innkeeper in Velen, I can collect it from an innkeeper in Skellige! Some might say that breaks immersion, but there are times when 'realism' needs to take a back seat for game play reasons. This is one of them. Storage allows us to remove the clutter from the inventory, but it's not lost when we need something for crafting or whatever.

I'd prefer the opposite actually. Retcon stuff if it gets in the way of the story. That gives them more freedom to do the Choice and Consequence in a given game if they're not locked into every litte thing we as a player do.

Granted the Iorveth path in Witcher 2 was made redundant in Witcher 3, still I'd prefer to have that option to take the route in Witcher 2.

I heard(thanks to Deathstruck) that the next update will include a storage chest. So that problem will be solved.

Just some thoughts. Of course every game isn't for everyone =).

I liked the baron quest but didn't get into it as much as many others. Seeing all the destruction when I finished that part of the game I can only conclude that I falied miserably.

My favorite part of Velen was dungeon crawling with Keira Metz. Did you do that? I have also found (for me that is) trying to catch all the !s and ?s gets you overleveled so I see it more like a smörgåsbord to pick and choose. I have however got stuck a little on Skellige because of the overleveled situation. There are some quests that I feel I really should do (and from a little wiki search to discern whether they are important (which they seem to be)) for which I am now 5-6 six levels above it feels...like it is gonna be more of chore. I am however just in spot on level for the next main quest.

And Roach of course. It took a while but I have finally understood how to control the horse properly and now it works like a charm. The same goes for mounts in DAI. It took a while but now that I know how to use the efficiently they really do speed up travel when it is just about the destination and not the journey.

That will be nice but I am afraid I will do like in Skyrim where convenient horses give you almost infinite storage. It takes fooooooooooooooreeeeeeeeeeeeveeeeeeeeeeeer to scroll through the saddle bags .-D

I'm looking forward to the expansion packs. I'll start my second playthrough 2 or maybe 3 weeks before the first one drops.

By then the free DLC will have all been released as well. Which they are still working on. I read with interest that the next one will require the latest patch to play. Which shows they are still developing them.

Im surprised you didn't give it longer than 15 hours of Velen, honestly as much as i absolutely love the Bloody baron quest Skellige and Novigrad have some AMAZING character quests, especially Novigrad. I do believe you can go meet Triss any time you want too as well. You can also filter out ?'s on the map. No point forcing the issue though no single game is for everyone.

Skellige is simply amazing, people are generally nice and honest, the snow and da mountain, skyrim what?

And you could fist fight a bear!

It is a series of quests, and Geralt does spend some quality time with Ciri as companion. In short, their bonding and interaction are simply amazing, the best and realistic father-daughter experience in a RPG.

But yeah, TW3 and DAI have one thing exactly alike; some people love them, yet some don't. It's the way it works and that is perfectly fine.
