Lie after lie. Anna's miscarreage is caused by three ladies' cruse and the depth of Baron's family has been completely deprived into "oppressively misogynist"

"

...

In another, a character who admitted to beating his wife so badly she miscarried is given an opportunity to explain why she had it coming, complete with a sympathetic conversation response option to go with it. The performances all around in this scene are excellent, the presentation among the best, most reined in anywhere in the game, but the message I saw it conveying was abhorrent.

I get that the setting of The Witcher 3 is meant to be a dark, dirty fantasy. But in a world that so explicitly goes out of its way to build a believable, distinctive take on the genre, the inclusion of so much violence explicitly directed against women feels like a clear, disconcerting choice. It's not just present, it's frequently a focus.

"...

The Witcher 3's expanded cast of characters doesn't preclude more screen time for just about everyone, and CD Projekt has done work to make for more interesting, influential women that feel just a bit more fleshed out than they've been previously. This includes a number of powerful women with complicated motivations and goals of their own.

That said, the world CD Projekt has created is oppressively misogynist. In some ways, the game deals directly with this — characters acknowledge again and again that it's hard to be a woman there, that it's a place of violence and terror and that women must work harder to be recognized and respected.

Then it kills them, over and over. There are several monster types devoted to murdered and wronged women whom Geralt is frequently asked to destroy, and other villainous characters are shown torturing or even butchering women to show just how evil they are. One sequence seemed specifically designed to see how long I could listen to a major female character have her fingernails pulled out before I ended the conversation to attack the individual in question. A later scene shows a villain literally surrounded by the bodies of murdered prostitutes.

The problem is the reivew twisted most facts about TW3 to demostrate Polygon's political agenda. This is ethically wrong.

Thanks, Xetykins and panzerwzh

Did that person even play the game? He was wrong about so much. Especially the Baron. I usually don't like using the word "agenda", but I think that word suits this situation. What a tool.

Btw, Xetykins, play any of the game yet?

There are a lot sessions which basically is based on their agenda instead how TW3 developed these characters

"When they're not being murdered, women in The Witcher 3 are comically sexualized. Nudity is everywhere — think Game of Thrones on HBO — and even when they're dressed, female leads don't have it much better. One character, the subject of an extended series of side quests and whom plays a fairly important role in advancing the story wears a dress with a neckline so wide I was pretty sure I was seeing an areola every time she turned to the side (no, seriously)."

----which refers to Keria, so not women should have areola and totally despite she is such manipulative, complex, independent, fun and powerful female character in TW3.

"Other moments are truly worthy of eye-rolling — as when one male character criticizes a woman for going into battle with her shirt hanging open, which is really the snake eating its own tail of video game sexism in a game where a significant portion of its speaking female characters are similarly and impractically exposed. Even Ciri, a daughter figure for Geralt and someone revealed to be incredibly powerful in her own right, walks around with her shirt unbuttoned in the middle, with a pretty clear view of a bra underneath — even when her attire changes to feature a fur-lined collar in colder climates."

----Ciri, who tights her bra to fight quickly became a symbol of sexism...  W . T . F. ?

They would not dare to touch Yenna or Triss not to say Phillipa.

Then it comes to the most "Polygon" moment

"...Also, while I did not by any means see every city, burg and outpost in The Witcher 3's world in my 70+ hours spent within it, I don't recall a single non-white humanoid anywhere — not in Skellige, Novograd, Oxenfurt or anywhere else. Once I realized this I couldn't stop looking for any example of a person of color anywhere, and I never found it, unless you count naked monster women sitting at the feet of a boss like a slightly more awkward tribute to a Frank Frazetta painting. But maybe they're in there, somewhere."

Everything is either racism or misogynist/sexism. R.I.P. Polygon/liars.

What I find amusing is the fact the reviewer said there was nudity everywhere. Nudity was in in appropriate places such as sex scenes, brothels and the party/ball you go to with Triss had a couple of topless women dancing. So, that means the reviewer had to enter the brothel and/or bathhouses.

It's like going into to Starbucks and complaining that you saw people drinking coffee.

Or it could simply be a lie in which they could build their "ethical" criticism. The irony is TW3 actually discussed racism, LGBT, and sexism in such a depth other political corrected games (included DAI) could hardly touched.

How CDPR handle these critical SJW issues in TW3.

1. Sexism (with an example of Succubus)

2. Racism and sexism

Seriously, this is just making people hate feminism, not support it because of presenting this very construed version of 'feminism'.

Yes, about that Polygon's article. You may want to read response from another dev, it will shed some light.

Not going to comment, you can draw your own conclusion.

God help me if this guy will ever spend a summer in scandinavia where sunbathing topless is almost a norm and some designated nudist beach everywhere. He's probably going to stand around with a truckload of blankets telling everyone to cover up with the way he commented about Ciri's "unbuttoned shirt ":-)

Interesting isn't it? How that reviewer who spouted such vitriol about misogyny in TW3 finds Game of Thrones acceptable? No, he actively enjoys Game of Thrones.. Hahah..

I honestly don't buy the idea that the 360/PS3's 10 year old hardware couldn't handle the likes of DA:I. If Rockstar can get a game like GTA V running almost flawlessly on it then Bioware surely cold have done a better job than they did with a lesser game. If I had to guess, i'd say that Bioware weren't keen on a last gen release but EA wanted to cast as wide a net as possible to maximise sales (this is the publisher that still releases annual Fifa titles on the PS2.) Seems to me that last gen consoles just got the least amount of time spent on making it a worthwhile experience to play, looks like the support isn't there and now they're just trying to sweep last gen under the rug and speak no more of it.

GTA5 had severe streaming problems on the 360/PS3, go too fast in any direction and the game engine literally fails to keep up, it was impressive but it was far from flawless.

Kinda hoping that the DA series will have fewer of these 'appropriate places' in the future; not more. These are zots that could be useful elsewhere; not becoming comedic bait for some late night host. IMO, of course.

DAI's " appropriate places" are also well done imo. I wont even count Cullen's streaking because it was fun. Now that they show bewbs and butt, they can't go back now. I hope they won't

I hope that they compensate the last gen customers in some way-- I think this really looks bad for Bioware. It would have been different had there been some inkling that future DLC would not be available to them. I am sure they suspected--or should have-- that future games would be new gen only, but they purchased the game and had made available all dlc up to this announcement without any hint that this would be the case.

Bioware should have changed course during game development and made it for new gen only. Sure, some last gen customers would have been pissed, but at least they wouldn't have spent the money and time and aggravation on the game. Bioware had to know these things were going to be an issue before release, yet chose to put the last gen consoles out anyway and decide midway in dlc season to pull the plug. Just seems like a poor business practice.

I just hope CDPR never takes a cue from Bioware on "How to treat your fans".

And adding insult to injury is BW telling us this is a good thing, they're our good pals doing us a favour. No apology in sight.

Ha! I live in Sweden just by a park. When i look outside my window right now there are two women sunbathing topless. It's not a big deal.
