I use alchemy constantly, I absolutely love it in TW3. Anyway, yeah-- check out your beasties and plan the attack. It makes things more easy and more fun. :D

I have to say that among other things, I'm finding this one of the most appealing things about the game. For one, I enjoy being visibly well-equipped. I like having my various tools (in this case, steel vs silver) arrayed on my person (most games, including pretty much every one of my favorites, I'm limited to just switching them out mid-combat, which is fine, obviously, but less gratifying). I appreciate having to use resources available to me rather than being able to cheese through things. I like that alchemy makes a considerable difference in my effectiveness. And because I'm a dork, reading books to confer an advantage over a given enemy appeals to me.

The problem I think is that they went with the multiplayer route, and that 90% of the time ruins RPGs. The next game for sure will have multiplayer which means the single player experience will be sub-par. Unless they abandon multiplayer (which they won't) and focus all their attention in story-telling and the single player experience, this franchise is doomed.

Well, they're entirely different teams that ultimately share a much larger pool of resources - they didn't take anyone away to work in it, they added people. And unfortunately, in 2015, multiplayer funds the single player, in that it grants a much bigger budget than they might receive otherwise. This doesn't sit well with me, but I have no major objections as long as MP doesn't actively take away from the SP (here I'm talking SP content locked behind a MP wall, which hey hey, they just did). I don't think MP inclusion is flat out the cause of any of DAI's egregious problems (I'm more likely to blame old gen co-development for much of it).

But I'm also not convinced that DAI is quite the fail that everyone else seems to think it is, either. I still really like it.

The hype train is strong in us. For sure.

I like the alchemy. Beastiary and everything else is not my problem with W3 btw, its just me forgetting the keys half the time cuz I'm so used to hot bars.

You were pretty pro-DA and anti-TW at the beginning of this thread, so it's nice that you've evened out. I think it's healthier for gamers to say "this game does X, Y & Z objectively better than this other game" but not get into hyperbole territory by saying "game X makes game Y a bad game". Video games don't exist in a vacuum, but entertainment also isn't a fixed commodity - it doesn't get used up at the expense of something else. This weird sentiment even exists within franchises, people saying Game 10 is bad because of Game 7 in a franchise, or Game 7 makes all the other Games terrible. What are they even saying???

Honestly, my thoughts on TW have been pretty consistent, though I understand how I came across that way because I was mostly snarking at posts I thought were dumb (which is something I do about every game and in every thread, for better or for worse). The strongest opinion I held was that the first game sucks (the only difference is that I now base that opinion on the whole game versus the first chapter) and that I'd still infinitely prefer to have a custom protagonist over Geralt, who is still bland. And I'm still pro-DA, although Bioware and EA have made that very difficult over the past couple of weeks. But as you say, there's room in my heart for more than one thing.

I've always wanted to play TW2 (and I've thought it looked incredible for years), but I hate starting in medias res, and I'm not made of free time. The Witcher is so bad that I was unable to gin up the inclination to actually go through it until I looked at TW3 when it was released and said "Ok, I think this'll be worth it." And it was, because I'm digging TW2 hard.

Also, this thread was stupid and trollish as conceived. I think it justifies its existence post release.

DAI was fun for me, but I wanted so much more. Various decisions made me rather angry along the way though they had their reasoning (Such as removing duplication of materials) and removing quite a few amulets of power from the game instead of fixing the problem.

But there were a lot of fun things in DAI, still, wanted so much more.

dramatic rant over.. Though I'll say its slightly above average for me. At times i'm a big unreasonable ogre that says I paid too much for it, but i've paid warcraft so much money over the years I think it's unreasonable for me to even cling to that thought sometimes.

@Tommy, I never got the impression you were anti-witcher, I think instead the impression I got was, "I'm not buying into this hype, may have to see for myself" and your thoughts on TW1 were spot on. I struggled with the combat/alchemy/bombs but I managed. I liked the story enough to try it twice. Struggling with my third playthrough as "neutral Geralt". It's a good story so I'm willing to continue.

I have to say I didn't even think the story in TW1 is all that interesting (talk about TW2 and TW3 had raised my expectations I guess)... I sided with the squirrels, but read through the other paths and it seems like apart from a couple of choices that make themselves relevant in later chapters, the divergence is mostly limited to which NPC is with you fulfilling the same role (Siegfried/Triss/Yaevinn) - so about on the level of BIoware at their most linear and least ambitious. A far cry from the divergence in Chap 2 of TW2, to be sure. Also, the final boss was totally just Algernop Krieger.

The only part of the game I actually enjoyed - very much, in fact - was Chapter 4. Can't put my finger on what I liked about it precisely, but I just liked the "Heat of the day" quest, and the change in setting, a lot.

I think if I was not following DAI closely before release, I would not be disappointed with it. Because almost everything that I liked on their marketing like village burning if you don't help them or the keep seiges, or the repopulation of wildlife if you kill the other etc are not in the game at all. Instead, we got fetch quest.

I'm probably going to follow Andromeda just as closely, because unlike some of you, I do like all the ME series, hopefully that one will not mar the hat trick.

On topic ; TW3 has a lot of really well done body language I would love to see in DA4. In DAI its almost always stepping back side ways or crossing their arms in cutscenes . And facial expressions too please. ( Have fun with compiling all the demands, Torgette :-) )

Who really is this Mr. NIBBLES??

Of course, I don't know that many people that would agree with me. They didn't like the kid. Someone I talked to who played the game thought the whole kid aspect was annoying.

Anyway, I look forward to ACTUALLY starting TW2. Still haven't yet.

I put my finger on it. The setting, along with the content of the quest, is evocative of the sort of traditional, pastoral ghost story that I like very, very much in other media.

Put me down as someone who didn't really like the kid, though.

But then, it's possible - likely, even - that I'm just jaded.

I agree. TW3 is far more fluid with the animations and facial expressions. And interactions like hugs seem natural, opposed to DAI where it seems like I'm watching barbie and ken making out.

Hopefully they will improve this, I don't care so much about graphics but when you spend half of a game interacting with all these characters, it's important (at least to me) that the animations are natural and believable and DAI's animations and the way the characters move are way too stiff. When you play other games, it's even more noticeable because the games nowadays (or at least AAA games) are all super realistic in how the characters look and behave and for a 2014 game, DAI is still very much behind in that matter. I actually think the animations were better in DA2, but maybe that's just me.

there was a soundtrack outside of the three cutscenes?

Man that must be nice to listen to while running around the Hissing Wastes

The Soundtrack itself was quite good (though I wish the style remained closer to the style of DA:O and DA:2). The real problem was how the music was distributed within the game.

Wow i forgot how skeletal thin were the elves in DAI. Look at those arms. As woman i really like the design of W3 women where all the bits are just right.

Sadly I don't play a lot of games. Just bioware's ME and DA and now W3 so I cant comment so much on other AAA games' animations.

I much prefer the Witcher's elf design. They don't look like malnourished teenagers.

Also they wear shoes.

They really are too skinny in DAI, that said i'm not sure about The Witcher's elves either... they just look like humans with pointy ears (60's trek vulcans basically). I'd rather somebody made elves' bone structure different at least.

Well they are called knife-ears, though a lot of the female elves in DA:I should really be called dorito-ears. The man elves can't have dorito shaped ears for whatever reason.

TW elves went through some substantial redesigns. Thank god they got rid of the "balding" elves from TW1.

elves have gotten worse in each DA game, first one I could get someone decent created, DAI, not one that I can create that looks heroic and badass
