Redcliffe is a new (ie; not the same) village, as it was destroyed near the end of DAO by Darkspawn right before the march on Denerim.

Did the darkspawn destroy the hills too? They would destroy the houses at most, and the villagers would just rebuild them in the same place, not rebuild the whole terrain of the village. That's a poor excuse for bad design decisions.

Anyway, I'm on my second playthrough at the moment and it's great to be able to fully enjoy the story and characters after having played TW2.

Spoiler

Another thing that I'm noticing now that I played the previous games is that there a lot of references to the books. Like Dijkstra and Keira's appearances. I'm curious how Geralt knows them and what happened in the books, specially with Dijkstra and the whole broken ankle thing. Haha I started reading The Last Wish a few days ago and I'm tempted to read all the books before going back to the game again, just to see how many references there are and because I really want to understand them!

I'm curious, are there any references from the books that aren't translated to English yet?

It turns out that siege weapons and the equivalent could be a source of erosion, not to mention magic (eg; Earthquake). And as the entire village was destroyed, they could rebuild as they wished; not everyone desires to rebuild on the ruins of old. Seems like a decent enough reason for a new design.

That is what I did, I find it a bit remarkable that they managed to fit in so many references to the books without it annoying me. Its like icing on the cake, then in Inquisition they give us the icing, but you have to go read TME for the cake.

As I understand, Cole and many other ref from the DA books are included in the game. Do not read the books myself, but others have mentioned this attention to detail in other threads.

I'm sorry but this sounds like a very lame excuse to not put further efforts. If it was a design decision, then I simply think it is a bad one. Like I mentionned before, going back to Redcliff is a chance for the team to show you how time has passed since the last time you played in this area. They want to make a new redcliff, okay fine, but give the player a chance to maybe explore the old Redcliff, see ruins, hear tales of the battle etc. Plus, the new Redcliff is painfully small. This is supposed to be the city of one of the most powerful Arls and it certainly didn't feel like it, and it's been 10 bloody years since the battle. For comparison, the village is about the same size as a small village in Witcher 3.

The amount of free content and patches coming out for The Witcher 3 is amazing! There really has been a steady stream of improvements via DLC.

They are adding so much awesome new content and listening to fan feedback in regards to future DLC and what features to add.

Wish DAI was a bit more like that.....

Redcliffe is one of the larger villages due to the inclusion of the Crossroads, bridge (ie; Dragon area), outlying farms, etc; just not the nearby Chantry and marketplace. Ten years seems to have been adequate to rebuild such a large span of terrain. While it is no Kirkwall, will do for a game without cities; grateful for the changes.

No greater effort needed; well implemented starting location for the game.

Yep; also enjoy the Black Emporium and JoH, as well as the ongoing DAI patches. TW3 will hopefully see their paid content soon.

I wouldn't have minded seeing some ruins besides the lighthouse, which didnt seem to be anything like the one from DAO at all. While the dark spawn ruined it, it seems they also changed location, building material and landscape around the lighthouse. Would have been nice to see the old chantry or perhaps the pub, or even the old docks where they sent off the dead. They could have least kept the castle the same-- or the layout, at least.

I mean, I know they can do ruins, since nearly every map you go to is filled to the brim with them.

Edit: I mean windmill. Not lighthouse. Whoops.

I shall say that I am really enjoying all the free dlc. There hasn't been one that I dislike.

With some companies resorting to backhanded practices-- like alienating loyal and paying customers by blocking their access to dlc-- it's positive and encouraging to see a company really making strives to ensure their customers are happy and are getting the most bang for their buck. One certainly can't peeshaw the quality of their product.

Every issue I had with the game, eg. crafting material weight and storage chest, has been fixed. As of now, the complaints I do have are minor. I don't even give a flip if someone calls me a fangirl. It's already been self-proclaimed.

Agreed, at least with the fan-gender moniker. Bioware has earned my fandom and loyalty; will likely purchase the next DA and ME products. Good to see there are a few companies working this well.

You know, someone saying they don't care if they get called a name, isn't inviting someone to do so. Your insults have multiplied lately and at least this one, was without provocation, since I wasn't directing anything toward you or replying to you. For someone who is in their 50's and values a clean lexicon as much as you claim to, you really shouldn't result to such juvenile desperation in defensiveness. It should be beneath you. You're old enough to know better.

As for Bioware earning your loyalty and fandom. Fantastic. That's really great that they can inspire that in you, for the thousands of people who own an old gen console and can no longer complete their characters and stories and after months of begging Bioware to fix their issues in the first place probably feel differently.

No insult intended again, but then comprehension has been lacking of late. I readily admit to being a fan of Bioware, and your post seemingly declared a like intent towards CDPR. Now while I do not play the TW series, I am a fan of GOG, and hope other companies will follow that model.

As for those chips on your shoulders, it might be best leave them elsewhere. Some are apparently starting to believe their own propaganda towards myself.

lol I don't know either, considering I am nearly half his age. I had him on ignore, but saw that some were debating a rather civil matter so I thought I could remove him to follow it. He has resorted to his old true colors again and he simply isn't worth following any debate when all he does is insult those who dare praise another company besides the one he loves and the only defense for it is, "Oh, the insult wasn't intended!"

Anyway, I agree with te first part of your post. As I said before about the free dlc, if it's a ploy for marketing-- I still get free dlc, so they can "ploy" all they wish.

Than back it up and report my supposed insults. Simply be aware that the same fate awaits those for invalid claims.

OT - Would like to see fewer weapon restrictions in the future DA series.

Guys, there is a report button, use it. One report won't help, but if few people start doing it on daily basis, some mod will look into it.

Lately his post are full of condescension, insinuations, provocations etc. etc. all valid reasons for report.

If he pisses you off it is the only way to do it. No point in constant arguing which will only lead to lockdown.

Just my 2c and keep going guys, good thread, I am reading it all :)

Fine by me. However, if Tommy feels insulted by that reply, he can reply by PM; an option not open to many other posters here. I had no such intention; only confirming that folks have complained about immersive animations on both sides of that issue. One does not even have to leave this thread to see it either.

I did not feel insulted.

I have to say that I find your persistence regarding this particular thread profoundly weird, but c'est la vie.

Anyway, I'm in act 3 of TW2, and frankly, it's stressing me out. See you guys in like 20 pages maybe, or tomorrow.

Iorveth. Roche is such a bro that I feel kinda bad. He saved my biscuits even though I ditched him.

Gonna do Roche next, though.

Ah, Chapter Three was bittersweet for me.

On a different note, a bit ago I was standing in the south-west part of the map in Novigrad where the Church of Eternal Fire is located and it has such an amazing view of the city's skyscape. It is just such an enormous view that it literally can't fit within my scope and to see it all I have to pan the camera. It really makes DAI feel so completely empty in comparison. I cannot fathom why they could not do something like this.

Even if not to that scale, just do something to make it seem like an actual city. They could have even done something like TW3's elven city, you couldn't even visit it, but the scale and backdrop of it made it seem as if it was gargantuan. I really hope they can improve the next game in this manner. If it was really the last gen consoles holding them back as people said, they no longer have that excuse. I really hope the upcoming DLC holds some kind of vast, living breathing community. I would really be excited and it would definitely be the first dlc I would purchase for DAI.

No chance it was that last gen restriction nonsense. Just take a look at the GTA series. They have been doing major cities for well over a decade and I'd put Vice City, a 2002 game on the first Xbox, as a significantly better city than Val Royeaux.

After so many references to the majesty that is Val Royeaux over all the DA media over the years it was one giant tease.  Especially in a game all about religion and the Maker, the Grand Cathedral that is the seat of the Divine, isn't even visible, let alone a location you can go. Val Royeaux, the Orlesian capital, is also the capital city of the Chantry, you can actually pick the next Divine, but you can't visit the Grand Cathedral, not even worth a cut scene.

I'd much rather have one fewer zone if it meant we would have had a grand city like we've been told Val Royeaux is for several games, comics, books, etc. DA:O's Denerim felt like a city, DA:I Val Royeaux felt about as worth while and expansive as the Black Emporium

I could live with optional, but seem to recall that some reviewers noted the animations, and liked the immersive effect.

As for harvesting, maybe a mod could be used to speed the process, but do not believe a reset for upgrades is required; generally have plenty of components for alchemy and crafting.

Apparently there is a mod that cuts out the gathering animatiom. I haven't tried it myself but next Story DLC I'll give it a go. Assuming it still works after the next patch I suppose.
