Perhaps because they are not interested in cosmetic DLC? They've never done it for previous games

You mean like the Issac Clarke cosmetic armor you get if you play Dead Space 2? Or maybe the class packs (mage, warrior, rogue) pack that they released for DA2 and charged $3 a pop or $5 for all three? Then there was item pack 2 and not to forget the tons of promotional and exclusive items.

That isn't even touching all of the Mass Effect armor and weapon packs.

So far, all that has been announced about the free dlc is an armor set-- that can expand your inventory, a bunch of different hair styles and beard sets, a skin for Yennifer and a free mission. They could have easily bundled those for $2 or $3, but didn't and there are twelve more to go. If they're anything like the four mentioned, and for free to boot--then yes, please.

Hell, the extra hair styles and beards alone is exciting to me. Not to mention the fact that Geralt's beard actually grows as the game progresses is pretty neat. But you know, to each their own.

"Which is an excellent thing. The Witcher 3 is a very violent and very adult RPG, with laboured emphasis on the word “adult”. This world is genuinely destitute. Sidequests are less “collect five Nirnroot” and more “save helpless elderly lady from the ruthless thugs burning her house down”."

http://www.pcgamer.c...-the-full-game/

Don't forget all the unicorn sex. Or the boudoir trading cards.

My continued impression of the Witcher, like most "gritty adult fantasy," is that it's pretty friggin' middle school. It's loudest proponents, such as the OP, pretty much constantly reinforce this impression.

Thanks for doing the research on all the free revealed items SO FAR. And they aren't even limited by "Special Edition" or "Pre Order" like EA and Bioware always do.  :)

"you're"

And that was the least troll-like of my last couple posts. I'm afraid you just don't like that I'm right in drawing comparisons Bioware games could benefit from if implemented.

Hardly, I know Bioware needs to improve on things in their games and looking at other games to innovate things in their games isn't a bad idea either. And personally I think DA:I is a step in the right direction for this but definitely need improvement

You however basically said they should mirror TW3

You mean like every other company, instead of just pointing out EA/Bioware

Oh hey, another thread comparing a game with another game that's not even out yet.

Lovely.

You however basically said they should mirror TW3

In your opinion "mirroring" is:

Quests and decisions that have consequences, a proper open world, much less pointless harvesting and looting, and much better gameplay. Also CD Projekt Red is giving out Free DLC specifically to divert from the greedy norm. Putting this game to shame.

That's an exact clone?  Sounds to me like my OP did exactly what I said and postulated features that would improve the DA experience. I didn't call for Dragon Age games to have white-haired, uncustomizable heroes and messy inventories or even the ability to swim. I simply mentioned some confirmed things from TW3 that are better than what Bioware came up with.

Also, you consider Inquisition a step in the right direction over the predecessors?  -_-

Seeing as I like the art style, liked the combat more than the others, didn't mind the "open world-ish" maps (though they could tone down a size next time)

And I also said they can improve on it

Yeah, they need to have more mature scenes. Like sex scenes while wearing clothes and shower scenes where you have on underwear. My favorite "mature" scene--one that I wish all games would emulate-- is the one where a character doesn't even wear underwear.....until the sex scene, in which they go out and put underwear on. That skips right out of middle school and throws us head first into community college! Hoo-yeah!

Joking aside, Dragon Age improved a lot on their sex scenes, for which I am very glad. If I had to choose what kind of sex scene I'd want in a game, though--the Rose of Remembrance scene from TW2 will win anytime over any game.

How is taking your money before you've finished the game not greedy?

(All these insane arguments against DLC must be rubbing off on me.)

I didn't say Dragon Age wasn't, to be fair. But it has interesting characters, better writing (the Witcher source material is pretty lackluster) and possibly the most engaging world building of any game I can name, to offset that.

Although, I guess I'm one to talk about "mature" narratives when I think that your avatar is one of the funniest characters in one my favorite games. Hell yes, Zimos.

God, all of the media I consume is embarrassing.

Are you talking about the Season Pass? You don't have to purchase it before the game is out or even until you finish it, if I am not mistaken. I didn't buy L.A. Noire's Season Pass, Saint's Row 3 (IIRC that was the one) and a few other Season Pass until I finished the entire game. You don't have to buy the Season Pass to get the sixteen free DLCs. You only have to buy the game.

If you choose to purchase anything before knowing about the game or without knowing if you'll enjoy it or not, then that should be on you(not you personally) and not the company. I think that can be said for any game company, Bioware, CDPR or any other.

The bolded part is entirely your opinion. If you can bypass immaturity (for better lack of a word) because you enjoy the world and setting of Dragon Age, one can certainly bypass unicorn sex because they enjoy the world and setting of The Witcher.

As for the last part--Zimos is mature! He handles his business in a very professional manner and handled that whole ball-gag/horse cart with a dignity few could match!  :P

No, no. I'm really looking forward to The Witcher 3, but I don't want BioWare to be like CDP:R. At all.

However, I don't want them to be like UbiSoft either.

I'm talking about the whole "free" DLC concept. Quotes because, of course, free DLC isn't free. You're paying for it when you buy the game. This way they get the money before finishing all the work. And better still, people think CDPR's doing them a favor.

here's why I'm excited for the witcher. It has complicated moral choices. DAI has none... nowhere in DAi did I have a choice that I had to just put the controller down and think about, DAO had them, DA2 had them, DAI did not.

The closest you get is the fade, but that's not a moral choice, it's just who do you want to sacrifice more.

Even the desire demon was a wash, because he doesn't offer you a single thing of value "Hey, let's make a deal... you can fight me if you want (and my endlessly recycled fade rift forms) or I can offer you a choice of totally useless and unappealing stuff that doesn't make it worthwhile NOT to fight me.

At least origins had blood magic, an impressive amount of gold for the first quest in the game, and even demon sex for the odd people among us on the table.

DAI didn't scratch the "my choices matter" itch, because they didn't.

If I am paying $60 for the game and they give the dlc without me paying over the normal price... What am I losing? So what? I mean, really.

It should be better to cut armors, weapons and hairstyles from the game and then charge extra? Regardless of when you download the items, not paying extra for them trumps paying extra every time.

Not sure I am seeing an issue here.

Good plan, as reviewers praised Inquisition for EA's sake when in reality is was a rushed mess.

However, just by the plethora of released footage, it's quite clear it's the direction Bioware needs to be heading. The Witcher series has a long history of decisions mattering.

Two games = long history?

And you mean decisions mattering like Shani vs Triss, and which of the 16 political situations you ended up with at the end of the 2nd game?  Come on now.

Give it a month or so and I'm sure that game will have its series of detractors, too.

I'm sad to say OP isn't all that wrong. Fully voiced side quests, decisions that matter, finishing moves reminiscent of dragon age origins, and everything isn't sanitized to hell. The more I see the more I think witcher is becoming closer to origins then DAI is.

I'd rather play in the dragon age world but so little you do in DAI actually matters or changes game to game. I feel like I've seen it all... Which sucks, because replaying origins for the seventh time, I still found things that surprised me. Not so with DAI.

Which character in DAI did I have to read their lines instead of listening to them?

To be fair, Mark of the Rift IS a finishing move, once you get it.

Sanitized - they tackle religion and politics head on, not to mention personal relationships of various sorts.

You mean you can't find differences in DAI by playing as a dwarf, elf, female vs. male, and pursuing other romantic leads?  Or choosing different inquisition perks or judgements?  Or creating save states from the Keep?  And is choosing the templars EXACTLY the same as choosing the mages?  Come on now.

Viola is great, but until she can pull off a pimp hat and speak in auto-tune, Zimos wins! Hands down! Unless you're Nyteblade. Zimos has a better fashion sense, though.
