Not to mention they showed that gameplay in more than one event to dozens, if not hundreds of fans since you can hear them cheering in the videos.

Correct; private screening not meant to be recorded. And even later reveals were pre-Alpha; not launch content.

Hype is Player based.

Gamers would then accuse EA/Bioware of leaving the stuff out of the base game when it could have been included and now are releasing it to copy CDPR.

I know. I was being snarky.

I've actually made this exact observation in the past - that if Bioware were to do this, they'd be trashed for "knowingly releasing an unfinished product."

I just really hate DAI now. It turned series from dark fantasy(like in DAO) to politically correct cliched "retarted-wizard-in-the-forest" game. Witcher is everything i hoped DAI would be.

Indeed. There are many things (mainly game mechanics) I dislike about DAO but it was epic.

Dragon Age Origin: events leading to final boss. (Although it is so last gen and they cannot put too many characters on screen and cannot make a huge siege, it is still epic **sarcasm**)

Dragon Age Inquisition.... events leading to final boss

https://www.youtube....yRvgEw&t=26m15s

If Dragon Age Origins is an individual game that runs on FB3 and was launch in 2014. It would have easily crushed DAI and win GOTY

Bioware really needs to learn to be consistent.

[edit]

And that lousy ending sequence is after seeing this...

https://youtu.be/9OMToaDx0vw?t=8m15s

The ending just sux so much more.

I am happy for both companies. DAI and Witcher 3 are both successful for their respective companies that is good. The competition (if there is any) between Bioware and CDPR appears be friendly. I have no skin in this game. I have no interest in the Witcher series. I played Witcher 1. I really have no interest in a character I cannot create. I also like party based games.

I did find Kingdoms of Amalur fun because it allow me to create my character and the skill system was very interesting even though. Now that is a intellectual property I wish someone would pick up and make a sequel.

But evidently still promotional and meant for public viewing, in order to hype up the game.

You can't blame the player for building up their expectations based on that footage. Nobody on the outside knows what's getting cut till the game releases. Even with those disclaimers hey - this is stuff that as far as we know, will be in the game.

Well, if you just played TW1 and nothing else, then I understand why the series wouldn't interest you, because if it was me, it wouldn't interest me either. In fact, I only got interested when I read reviews of TW3 praising the game, its worlds, sidequests, characters, etc. Otherwise I don't think I would've given it a chance because for one, I prefer to play as a female so I can understand the appeal of creating your own character and refuse to play games that won't allow that. But in the end what matters the most is the story the game tells me. If it's good, I don't care who I play as. And even though Geralt is a set character, he has pretty much everything I want in a playable-character. He has a background, has a family (sort of) and friends, has a personality and can be a real badass, not only in combat but in conversations as well. Not to mention he is greatly connected to the main plot. When I compare him to the Inquisitor (who has no background, no family or friends - or at least it's like they don't exist - and such a bland diplomatic personality, it hurts), I come to the conclusion that I'll take a set character over that any day of the week. But that's just me, of course. Each to their own.

This is more or less how I came to it. Although, I actually still like DAI.

Ignoring all my nattering on about custom protagonists, just the first act of TW1 was enough to put me off the entire series for 3 years. TW3 being huge and cool is the only thing that made me revisit it.

I'm obviously glad I did, though.

Just don't think about how the heck do you get to the ending in TW3 because I really agree, it's daunting as heck. Just think about it as a swiss chocolate you let it melt in your mouth.

I'm 123 hrs in now and lvl 20 and still have not started Skellige . I still got bazillions of stuff to do in Novigrad.

Not so much when it is clearly labeled pre-Alpha. Only a few areas were completed; were viewers expected to believe only these would be implemented? Am guessing No....

Obviously not, but that's because most people aren't deliberately obtuse or literal to a fault. "Alpha" doesn't mean it definitely won't be there, just that it might not.

You're shifting the goalpost, and twisting yourself in knots to discredit someone's entirely natural response to missing out on stuff they were looking forward to, and that they had no cause to believe would be specifically absent from the final product .

It's one thing if Bioware's every step and misstep is perfectly in line with your tastes, but it's pointless to jump like you're their guard dog every time someone levels a criticism at them.

Yes, it was promo material for a select audience with the disclaimer that it is subject to change. Bioware/EA is not the first company nor will it be the last to show promo stuff that may not make it to the game. As you have often stated that is part of the creative process that items get cut.

If the player bases their expectations on early promo material they are most likely setting themselves up for disappointment.

In other words, I think we all agree. I just think the "you'll take what you're given and you'll like it" attitude is distasteful.

Me too. I actually thought it was exceptionally tasty.

It's counterproductive to jump on people for expecting a side of chips with their burrito, and getting stuck with refried beans.

Kind of like how some are trashing CDPR for it? I have seen a lot of people here making ridiculous assumptions against CDPR for doing the free dlc thing.

Haters gonna hate. Bioware needs to garner some goodwill. They've angered quite a large portion of their fanbase and I just can't see the majority saying, "Ah man, Bioware is giving us free stuff. I am done with this company!" Especially since a lot of people are unhappy with the pricing on current dlc.

But I do find it amusing that folks complain of released material based on pre-release, even pre-design information.

People from both companies have, over the years, made comments that they play and enjoy each others titles. All the fanboy hate type stuff out there is fan only, the companies like each other.

I think a lot of us love both companies too. I did not like DA2 and DA:I could stand to improve, imo, but I still loved Origins and the Mass Effect series. I don't get the people that draw a line in the sand and refuse to buy the 'competition's products'.

KoA was so much fun, it must have been a mismanaged company to go under because there is no reason based on the game itself why the company should have gone under so fast. It had it's issues but you could see from the DLC they put out that they were already learning and improving. I hope someone someday picks that IP up again and makes more KoA titles.

I'm not trashing CDPR for it. And I quite agree that goodwill is nothing to sneeze at (and something that Bioware and EA need desperately). I'm impressed with the relationship their playerbase, and all told, I think they're a developer that's emphatically worthy of support. But it should be obvious that people are willing to give them a little more latitude than they give Bioware, for these very reasons.

I just don't think they're entirely altruistic (and I don't believe for a second that at least some of the free content they're releasing wasn't planned for the main game). They're still a huge company primarily concerned with for their bottom line, but they've spun it in such a way that they come out looking like Robin Hood.

They're undeniably trampling Bioware and EA though. It's true.

When comparing the offerings, particularly the paid ones. particularly against past Bioware releases, haters aren't entirely unjustified. But that's an argument we've had already. I can't imagine there's anything else anyone could say to convince you of that, so whatevz.

Bioware does need to garner some goodwill. CDPR has released a ton of free content, even NG+ is in the works in response to fan feedback. Bioware meanwhile finally releases qunari gear, they charge an enormous amount for an item pack, and it's got massive problems with it with no fix in site. CDPR's 1.07 created a few problems, there's already a 1.08 in the works to fix those issues... bioware doesn't tell us a thing, unless it's going to cost us money.

Nobody expect them to be altruistic, but they seem to appreciate their customers, and I feel good giving them my money. Plus, they want less money for more content in terms of each of the planned expansions then I paid for Hakkon, and Hakkon was pretty freaking short and empty in terms of actual story.

What business decision is purely altruistic? At least with this decision,it's a win-win. It could have also been a business decision to bundle these and sell them under the pretense of "special offers". It's a business decision that just so happens to benefit me, I'll take that.

Anyway, I really hope you like TW3. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it.

If Bioware were savvy, they'd have polished up some of those cut features post release and billed them as part of "Free DLC Program."

No one would be the wiser.

It'd be nice if they did, we might have something to do in those big empty maps.

Hey, so how big is White Orchard against the rest of the game? Am I going to die playing this? Jesus.

Also, pleased to note that I can run it on mostly high and ultra settings with my rig, which is unexpected. It looks pretty excellent.

Oh dude... white orchard is really little. It's maybe 10% of the land if even that.
