Yeah, well, I think you may be reaching here. I think asking Geralt to go in the water for them has more to do with the drowners and Sirens lurking below the surface, rather than because they don't wish to have wet clothes.

As for companions, they could stay on the boat while the controlled party member does the diving, or simply wait on the shore. I remember many instances DAO and DA2 where I would make my party Hold and stay behind while I sent my rogue ahead to disable traps, it wouldn't be that big of a deal diving alone. I mean, after all, Bioware thought it was perfectly fine to have your companions vanish into thin air while riding your horse, because the Inquisitor is the only person in all of Thedas that rides ones.

Hmm, true. Plus, the whole "magically disappearing companions" can be avoided. I remember the "Last Wish" quest where Yen casts some kind of infinite breath spell on Geralt for the purpose of diving into deeper water. Would be cool if Mage PC's or companions have that kind of spell for the sole purpose of exploration without the crushing fear of drowning AND make it possible to have awesome underwater combat.

Though just to be clear, I do prefer that some companions can join the player character in underwater exploration. Swimming in deep waters alone can be terrifying!

On the topic of mounts and infamous magically disappearing companions, maybe the next DA game could try implementing a carriage mount? I recall a pretty awesome fan art that depicted the DAI companions on a mount with a Dragon skull trophy on it, similar to how Geralt hangs his monster trophies on Roach's rear.

Oh my god yes.  Geralt, for a character who was supposed to be so stoic and emotionless, had a lot of subtlety to those emotions.  There were a a lot of really strong, powerful moments for me in that game that made me feel what he was feeling.  Such as when he beats Whoreson Jr down so badly because he hurt Ciri.  The mischief in his eyes when they destroy the elf dude's lab, the pain he feels when he believes her to be dead.  Emotion was something DA:I was lacking.  The only part I felt emotional was just after Haven in the mountains.  Still my favorite part of the game.

My favorite scenes from that game were the unexpected things, like Geralt having to dress and learn how to behave in court, or doing the drunk males raiding the girlfriends clothing thing, or the snow fight thing, completely irrelevant to the story line but making Geralt human and giving a context to his relationship with Ciri, who often provides an empathetic translation to the Clint Eastwood stranger with no name feel of Geralt.

Haven was kind of unexpected but I Iiked what the story did with that male cleric functionary, it gave a sense that for all his flaws he was trying to do the right thing. I think I my favorite character was Seras, as you kind of need a contrast to the officious bureaucratic Inquisitor that my character became, when not donning armour and executing red templars.

Yes, I didn't even think of mages having spells that can aid water exploration. I like that.

Swimming alone, diving at night is very eerie, but that is partially why I enjoy it. It's that deafening silence with nothing under you and nothing above you. Spooky, indeed.

I would also like to see some sort of trophy system in future DA games. I like how they give you a bonus in TW3. I would also like the see DA implement a better mount system. They have all of these different mounts, yet they are the same in everything, except the death wail they let out when going fast. And I use the word "fast" loosely, as my Inquisitor can walk faster than that horse can run.

Would be nice to have distinct bonuses depending on the breed of the mount.

Why not just a mount for each companion....

Carriage Mount.... Err.... Sorry but when I saw that, the first image that comes to mind is:

One thing that I would not mind in next DA: Polearms. I am aware that in TW3 only enemies can use them, but seeing how they were actually handled (and powerful), made me think.

Seriously, what happened to polearms in most western RPGs? It's always an army charging with sword and board or just a sword at best. Polearms were (to my knowledge) rather common among the ordinary foot soldiers. Heck, you can even see plenty of them on most of DA Warden artwork, yet they are completely omitted from the series in favour of huge swords that look like really glorified toothpicks of a Turkish sultan, but that is another matter (of visual design).

A glaive, halberds or spears.... would be an excellent weapon in many fantasy themed games. The only reasons I can think they aren't included are that people don't like them or developers don't want to make more animations than necessary.

Say if Bioware rellocated some of their budget into more weapon variety, I would be a happy camper.

It took bioware 3 games before they could do bloody bow strings, you expect them to do different weapons with different range, speed, animations and combat feel. Hell they cant even get proper swords right in proportions and weight, thats why all their two handers are slow and animated as one is swinging a 20 pound club when a good two handed is at best 6 pounds but generally weighs between 3.5-6 pounds.

Its a pipe dream mate. Infact most american/canadian developers are guilty of this as none of them apply logic to how weapons work, their design and most importantly their weight and this seriously annoys me.

I'm deaf. I am sure I would love it, though. Not only have I read how amazing it is, but my friends who play do nothing but praise it. I gave the OST CD to a friend who doesn't even play video games and he listens to it all the time. I trust that it's awesome.

Ah crap, I'm sorry.  Stepped into there didn't I?

Oh yeah, the Witcher drinking session might be the funniest thing in video games ever for me.  :P

You stepped fine! :P You asked a simple question and no offense was taken. It was a good question to ask, actually. Looking back on it, it does seem as if I am implying that I didn't like it. My bad.

Edit: BTW-- has anyone heard any news about when we can expect NG+?

After we get patch 1.08 it seems. Some preparation is needed before the NG+ DLC. Give them time because if we are to keep our level and stats, adding NG+ requires quite a bit of rebalancing since it was not initially planned.

I am curious as to see if the Witcher Armor would see an upgrade in stats or the NG+ wont actually allow us to gain that many more levels.

If they allow us to gain like 10+ levels, drops that scale may become more powerful than our Master Craft Gears. If they dont allow us to gain that many levels, basically the NG+ would be nothing more than replaying the game with the same gear - just higher level enemies.

Honestly, it's best not to discuss anything with him and ignore him. He doesn't want to do anything but white knight DAI and he is not above making up things to further his argument. He wants attention, please don't give him anymore of an excuse to seek it.

Edit: I know it's hard and I fall into myself sometimes because the arguments he makes can be so ridiculous, but he would love to see this thread close. Let's not give him that.

And that's why the ignore list exists. Seriously, ever since I put him there, I haven't even had the urge to click to see his hidden posts because I know it's the same old thing over and over again. The thread gets much more enjoyable that way. I only see his posts when someone quotes him and because someone quotes him, I have to read his posts and then I have the urge to reply but I don't because there's really no point. It's wasting words, time and filling this thread with pointless conversation. So let's keep the discussion among ourselves, those who played both games, and keep giving constructive feedback like we have been doing for the past 300 pages.

I really can't wait for the NG+ to come out. I haven't finished my second playthrough and I'm already excited for my third. It's going to be so great starting a new game with all the awesome abilities and awesome gear.

Speaking of weapons, am I the only one who loved the awesome looking glaives the Darnassian Sentinels uses? Though, I think it's a bit much for DA though :( I cannot think of any faction that fits those weapons, unless the DA elves has finally recovered their superiority, I suppose

I'm awfully sorry to hear that KBomb. As a man who adores music, it does pain me. :(

And your friend is very correct, the music is beyond incredible. Easily one of the best soundtracks for a video game with smashing ambient and combat music.

BTW, everyone remembers the frying pan quest, right?

I just realized today (I don't know if it was common knowledge):

Spoiler

Am I the only one who missed that lol...?

Either way, the dedication to such details is what blows me away in this game.

Hey, can't blame a guy for trying to be optimistic. Maybe we'll see the glaives after the sixth game at this rate! Yay?

It all comes down to personal tastes. Though even if not as mounts, carriages could still serve as a mobile storage only accessible at camps.... with customizable wheels.

So, I like it a lot. I'm playing with place of interest markers turned off, and as a result, doing a lot of aimless wandering (and I'm also broke after buying the Temerian armor set at the end of White Orchard). The atmosphere is killer, sometimes. Money seems in short supply, and I'm leveling insanely slowly - I'm only level 5, at the moment, and I've done the werewolf quest and the first part of the Nilfgaardian contact. I just met Keira and I'm spelunking with her at the moment, but I keep getting wrecked by a gargoyle.

Game is tough. The combat didn't click with me till yesterday, and I'm playing on Blood and Broken Bones.

Anyone have some build advice? Or maybe a tip on where and when I'm able to respec?

The higher the difficulty the slower you level and if you're really broke, you can turn on POI and do those, you'll usually get loot that sells for quite a bit. You can buy Respec potions from Keira or the shop in Gildorf Square, Novigrad. Many builds are viable, but early Igni is probably the most powerful thanks to burning, however they nerfed so it isn't as god-like as before. Quen's alternate cast is pretty good once you get the recover HP on hit skill, there's also the alchemy skills that turns single bombs into cluster bombs.

If you're doing a sword build, focus on Whirl and the skill that causes opponents to bleed, also get a sword with a decent crit chance, take the Cat School Perk and wear Cat School armour. Sign builds I'd say Quen, Igni and Aard with Griffin School Armour and perk and Bear for alchemy. I've yet to do an alchemy build so I have no idea how viable it is.

Thanks guys.

I had POI on for White Orchard, but my gamer brain takes over and I just bee line towards them, incapable of discovering them more organically. I didn't like it, but yeah - broke, so maybe I'll need to.

I picked up Griffon school training on your recommendation, but... I guess I wasn't paying attention to the armor class. I just saw my numbers go up. One issue is I think I wasted a couple of points (for example, picked up a talent called sun and stars which doesn't appear to do anything at all - I don't notice the vitality regen it supposedly grants at any rate).

More passive healing would be a huge help. I have had the troll decoction for a while now, but have not found any trolls yet to craft it, and the potion change is jarring.

Is there any indication when you cast quen other than the spell's visuals? There are no charges that I can see, and there's no timer like there was in TW2. I have trouble knowing when it falls off. Are the mechanics exhaustively documented anywhere?
