TW3 ruined all other elves for me. Their design is freaking badass, especially the Aen Elle.

They're identical to all elves in everything else, though, and again, they are slight, debatably attractive humanoids with pointy ears.

Dragon Age elves are dumb too, though. Frankly, elves the world over are boring and I'm done with them. The only ones who are at all interesting are the Mer in TES because they're insane.

You dare fight a Dunmer ?!

Exactly. Never!

Wouldn't fight a Bosmer either, because they're actual cannibals. Which is refreshing, honestly.

That's one of the things I really like about TES, none of the Elves are beautiful creatures of the forests who respect all life. They're either megalomaniacs, cannibals, exiled or transformed by their God born from shite.

Yep.

The only downside is that the dwarves are elves too, which is just ignominious. Because obviously dwarves are da best.

I'm not a fan of those little dirt-dwellers, glad we have the Dwemer and Falmer in their place, as they're infinitely more interesting.

I don't think Tolkien would be too happy with that. His whole shtick was imagination and creativity. Trying to imitate him by copying aspects of his world kind of misses the point.

As a long time member, I have to be fair to Bioware in that there was a mammoth cry during/after Origins to make elves look more nonhuman. There were a lot of complaints that the elves looked like smaller humans and weren't really standing out among themselves. Artistically, I think that is why Bioware went with the elves in DA2. They were horrible, I agree--but I believe they were trying to make them different because that is what a lot of fans were asking for.

Blah! I don't like dwarves. I like them as cute little side kicks (the dwarves in TW2 kept me in constant stitches) but I would never play as a dwarf.

We complain that they don't listen to us, but when they do listen to us...

Well, god help us all.

Not sure I implied that it was.

Mostly it's just funny, though.

Eight years ago, in the Mass Effect subforums of the old BSN...

"We hate those elevator rides! They're long and boring! Out! Out!"

Mass Effect: Andromeda subforum, present day...

"Oh, yes! The elevator rides from ME1! I miss them. Don't you guys miss them? Bring them back!"

The cycle continues.

We all complained - loudly - about the mako. How dare they remove the mako!

And how could they possibly consider bringing it back?!

This. I'm not a fan of elves myself, but the elves in the Witcher series are great. Probably the only elves I wouldn't offer up to R'hllor.

I didn't complain about the mako :( I complained about the stupid bounciness.

That said I did complain about the hammerhead. That being nuked from orbit was nice.

I loved the Mako.

In fact, if I have my druthers, they'll essentially take everything that everyone else seems to hate about ME1 and turn it up to 11. Outlook good, from what we know so far.

You want the awful aiming and combat back? Every enemy has double immunity, so it takes 45 minutes to go through one encounter? ;)

It added to that vast space feeling. Me2 felt small.

Oh god no. That means we'll get that terrible combat system again. That's the one thing ME3 did right.

I believe that's one of the reasons why the game has barely any interesting stories and feels so bland and shallow.. They are trying so hard to not offend anybody that the game suffers from it.

Can anyone imagine something like the Bloody Baron story in Dragon Age Inquition? I doubt they are capable of writing such a questline but aside from this  I also don't believe the current Bioware would want to.There are too many aspects which may trigger parts of their fanbase. If they would try, it  would probably end in a very onesided portrayal of the baron as the biggest evil ever, assumedly controlled by Red Lyrium and Anna as the poor and innocent vicitm. The goal would be to kill the baron in the end because he deserves it, considering he is the biggest evil ever.

I honestly can't believe how much Bioware changed since Origins, which had a lot of great little stories.

It's a shame because they used to be able to give us the tough, interesting choices.  I always think of Ruck in DA:O when it comes to this.  A simple quest, but one that always struck me hard.  Kill or let him live, tell the truth to his mother or lie to her.  I think it is EA's influence on them that has brought us to the politically correct point.  They neutered Bioware in order to try to appeal to as many people as possible.
