I don't know... Since bethsheeda is attempting to follow a road they can't handle... Having a voiced protagonist requires cinematic feel and overall good writing... In this side bethseeda went downhill since morrowind...Not even mentioning how the tes series now is so dumbed down and they have not show anything with the character page...
Bethsheeda have the same problem of bioware... They did a marvelous setting with morrowind... and extabilished a lot of the lores of the other Tamriel provinces "For example Cyrodill was supposed to be a jungle" and then dumbed down things since Oblivion at the point now in skyrim we have a really worse skill system lack of spell creation overall dumbed down magic and a quest consistency nearly absent "warrior that become the archmage of winterhold, killing the emperror with the dark brotherhood and later join the imperial army and make oath to protect the emperror, or the infamous whiterun: The city is closed because of dragons... yeah indeed.. the imperials carry the symbol of a winged dragon so is well know dragons have wings adding the fact that alduin destroyed helgen on flight...It is really usefull close the doors because a dragon could walk inside....(the dumbest things ever)
So i will keep my fallout4 expectation low... for the moment.
Skyrim had it's flaws, but it was still a fantastic game. I think it's skill system, with the addition of perks, was a lot better than Oblivion's or Morrowind's. I did not personally miss the spell creation system, I never really used it much. Magic was especially weak in Oblivion, much stronger in Skyrim. I personally enjoyed having the weapon in one hand, magic in the other playstyle.
I will agree with you that having a warrior based character as the archmage of the mage guild was pretty stupid though. I do miss that from Morrowind, the fact that promotion in the guilds is depended on your skills.
That aside, there were still a lot of great quest lines in the game. The main quest was weak, but a lot of the side content was really strong, particularly the Dark Brotherhood. Yeah, closing Whiterun because of dragons seemed silly, but they were frightened, and felt that they had to do something.
Bethesda has their flaws, so does every game company. Bethesda's main weakness is it's storytelling and their writing.
Where they excel at, perhaps better than any other company, is their world building, and making those worlds live. People might mock them for their 'worker bees', but no other game has come close to having anything as good as those worker bees until TW3 came along. The NPC's in Bethesda games have lives, they go to work, they shop, they go to the taverns at the end of the day.
I for one am incredibly excited to see what they do with the new gen consoles, to see how much they have improved.
