Hinterlands was okay the first time around. For replay purposes they should've given us a "Start a Wildfire" option.

Yeah the trailer looks pretty great, started a new she-elf to romance Solas, Hinterlands is a real drag though.
Ughhh. Thinking about the Hinterlands and wandering through huuuuge areas with no music and barely anything happening is sapping my desire to start at all. Also, the fact I'll have to update DAI in order to download the new mods, but I haven't updated forever (on purpose).
Once I found out one of the updates killed the duplication glitch that I used for mats, I didn't update anymore. Now I haven't updated just because I haven't been playing.

Hinterlands was a bad starting area, or they could have focused it abit more and cut about half the size. Know a few people that actually quit the game because of that zone, even though they could leave and come back later. So note for next game there.
Oh, god. I freaking hate the Hinterlands. I'd rather stick forks in my eyes than to trapse around that deadhole. The only thing about leaving and coming back later is that you have to be a bit quick about it, else you'll out-level most enemies and end up getting barely any XP.
Nintendo has been making strides believe it or not and have made effort to actually allow content creators to broadcast their material. LP's were relatively new for Nintendo and they are very careful not to let people stream their content for their own reasons, whatever they were. When it became popular for content creators to stream games and actually get paid for it, there was never any inherent 'right' for said creators.
They changed their ways recently with the program that allowed their games to be streamed to Youtube but with a very restrictive policy which no one cares for. Yet they did, when they could have stuck their foot in the ground. They always, along with every other company had the right to say no to people streaming their content or creating ad revenue. Aside from the overly "aha" attitude of the below youtubers, they had a damn good reason to criticize Angry Joe. They announced months ago that they were creating this program, and aggressively enforce their rules. It was very arrogant for Angry Joe to turn around and demand that he be treated differently than every other creator.
Skip to 2:10 if you want to hear what the "God of War" creator had to say about Joe's behavior
Spoiler
AJ isn't saying he should be treated differently. He is stating the system on a whole is ridiculous and is very vocal about pointing that out to Nintendo. A right he has seeing that his job relies on it. I couldn't make out what was being said in the video, but as for the Twitter feed from that creator, I call BS. You don't have to respect the rules. You may have to follow them, but that isn't the same as respecting them and I have no respect for Nintendo's cash grabbing. I stand behind Joe on this one. However, that is pretty off topic and I don't wish to steer the conversation in that direction, so I will say no more.

I do not believe it is bad; simply would have made the point about returning to Haven a bit more direct. But then, Player control is a bonus, and one can remain if they wish.
The problem is first time players don't know what's important and what isn't. No one knows, first time through when to leave the hinterlands because we don't know that we're not going to miss something vitally important over the next hill or the hill after it. The bandit camp caught me, thinking it was a keep we could capture and and upgrade, for example.
That said, I get the feeling from reading some Tweets in the twitter thread, they know they messed up making it so large. Patrick Weekes said it is a time sink he's responsible for. So somehow I think next time we might just a "less is more approach"
To cut the map designers some slack, I think they just got carried away and wanted to see just how big they could create the regions having dealt with the map size restrictions on the previous DA games.
My favorite areas tended to be the smaller areas such as Fallow mire, being a more focused area. Crestwood was another good area, whilst it was fairly large it seemed quite focused.

Your argument has nothing at all to do with my reply. I don't agree 100% with Joe although I do agree with some of what he says, and I don't believe that any company is above criticism. I simply disagree with your statement that he lied on his video about how he received the WiiU when he certainly did not and even if the system was a gift, I don't see how that is somehow an auto win for anyone who disagrees with his stance. If I buy you a gift and it falls apart because it was poorly made, do you not have a right to think the company who made that product is incompetent?
His job is livestreaming and uploading youtube content. During his streams people donate money and subscribe to support him. That's his money and he can buy whatever he likes with it. However, certain viewers donated with a request that he buy a WiiU because they wanted him to review WiiU games, he respected their request and purchased one.
I don't care if anyone disagrees with Joe but claiming he didn't actually buy the system as a reason to discredit his opinion is just a shoddy argument overall.

That wasn't my only problem with his video, it was just one, it was not my first post but it was the first that you responded too. My overall problem with Joe was his attitude about the situation. I explained why too. I posted several things. I think Nintendo is borked too but my argument is that him expecting his experience with Nintendo to be any different was bogus in itself. His attitude toward anyone that disagreed with him as a 'hater' or a 'fanboy'.
You are completely right in your analogy and demonstrated he had a valid complaint. But his attitude is what I took issue with. Sorry I did not clarify.
Actually I may have assumed I posted my big @Joe rant in this thread but actually it was in Anime thread that is now locked, it was the other mega thread that I replied too :/ I could see why my post was off as I assumed I posted more reasons within this thread besides the point you were making about him having bought the console with his job.

I wish they'd make a Witcher CGI movie with the same quality as that.
Apparently, the same studio that did the CGI trailers is currently making one (or at least has plans to make it).
(this is from reddit)
The guy, who did this:
The Cathedral https://www.youtube....h?v=lrCN2dLFf5Y
Animated history of Poland https://www.youtube....h?v=2DrXgj1NwN8
European Space Agency: Ambition https://www.youtube....h?v=H08tGjXNHO4
The studio developing the movie is Platige Image, where Tomasz Bagiński is a creative director. It is responsible for most of the Witcher 1/2/3 and Cyberpunk 2077 cinematics.
More bits of information:
-
it has been officially confirmed by Platige Image, that they are working on the movie (google translate might help)
-
paragraphs from the interview with Baginski (google translated):
- "You are also working on the film "The Witcher". Can you give us a preview? Who plays the main role? - I have to disappoint you, because I can not reveal anything. With this project, there is an absolute marketing conspiracy of silence."
- "Don't you dream of a project with the budget of "Lord of the Rings" or "The Hobbit"? - It would certainly be nice and challenging task, I hope that one day I will be given an opportunity to participate in something like that. But it is always so that you start with the story, and then you adjust the budget to it. One day I would like to tell the polish, slavic tale on the screen, in such a way that appealed to the world."
- We affirm. (google translane)
We started preparing for the production of full-length feature film actor, "The Witcher", for which he will be responsible Tomek Baginski and Platige team Films. The scenario will be based on the prose of Andrzej Sapkowski.
The project is currently in development.

They're making strides but they are still very, very small strides. It's still pretty weak when almost every other developer, almost, has embraced Youtubers. It's hard to say no to free advertisement. Nintendo's claiming any amount of the add revenue made off Youtube videos is still sickening to me.
Also, I don't think Angry Joe has ever said that he should be treated any differently, he was speaking out on behalf of all Youtubers.

I missed the Quest entry the first time, but the fault is my own; not in the design. And I figured it out when I could not progress any further, decided to return to Haven to re-supply, and encountered another hint in a cut-scene.
Bioware placed the hints in front of us like a good GM; not their fault if the Players ignore them. And the fact that the Hinterlands are huge is not a flaw; sticking around to clear it is the issue.
Currently, my own fave area is Haven; a place that feels like a home, and is easier to dust and explore than Skyhold. As for the others, each has their own charms and challenges. After the rains experienced in the Storm Coast and Fallow Mire, the desert seemed warming to me. After a while, a return to the grasses of other locales was inviting. And the cool night on the Hissing Waste was a welcome relief from the days spent elsewhere. Etc.

Makes sense, though. The shards and the mosaics have quests and dialogue associated with them.
Personally, my inquisitors do not go off on frivolous shard hunts. They have their priorities in order (ie I'm far too lazy and disinterested in those particular timesinks. I'll leave it to the crazy 100%ers).
The schematics thing will literally redeem all subsequent playthroughs, though. This is a great move on their part. Plus, once patching cools down, hopefully the modding situation will be a little more stable.
