I know this is a Witcher/DAI thread but I just finished playing a few hours of Phantom Pain.  No spoilers.  I already think they did a better job on their open world than DAI. The enemy AI placement, just like in Witcher 3, makes sense. They aren't just scattered randomly about for no other reason than for the PC to run into mobs of enemies to kill. They also seem more intelligent. Unlike DAI, they don't just run to you and fight until they die. They'll search for you, check up on missing comrades, call for help when their numbers dwindle (sometimes they'll get help and other times they're abandoned by their HQ), fall back and call a cease fire until they locate you et al. They'll even ask each other if they're doing good on ammo.

Like DAI you do end up picking roots but you get a nice sizable bundle and it gets sent off to the base for research so you don't feel like a glorified farmer.  Recruiting is so much more rewarding. You actually manage what jobs they do, what skills they acquire, and what departments would best suit their talents.  They also craft the items you need in the field so they are constantly useful and you have to take care to manage them well.  You get to plan the expansion of your base to make room for more recruits and resources. I actually feel like a leader trying to run an organization and not someone just picking ABC choices in a war room...and I got a wolf pup for a pet. :D I just had to mention that cause it's awesome.

I also like how I have choices with dealing with certain targets. I can take a chance and recruit or kill them, and sometimes you can make a mistake killing them if you're not careful with the intel you get on the field....or if you're like me and suck at being stealthy. -_-

Anyway, loving this game already.

I....want....to......play...

I hate you people

Maybe we'll start seeing "be more like Phantom Pain" threads :P. I actually hadn't thought of the similarities but both are open world and both put you at the head of an organization.

Yeah, it is amazing. I have been trying to go back to DAI in the last few days, but I just can't get into. After seeing the world in TW3, I think DAI feels so empty. I am hoping the dlc lures me back in. I'd like to have an elf that romances Solas, but I doubt I'll get to her.

After I finally finished my first playthough, I tried to start another, a female dwarf to romance Sera, thought it would be amusing to get a dwarf and an elf hooked up, but could not get more than halfway through the thing unfortunately.  Not sure if I will get back to it really.  Which sucks in a way because that means if I try to play the new DLC I will have to do so with my mage, and I found the mage to be so freaking dull, I got really sick of having to spam barrier all the time.  I like my dwarven DW rogue much more, but...that emptiness you mention just eventually broke me.

I'm playing Dishonored right now, a game I have much more fun with.  Just finished my first playthrough, and am gonna try and get a few more in before I start up a new TW3 playthrough.

Is there a level cap on NG+? Just started a new game with it and I apparently missed quite a lot in the White.Orchard. My plan is to do a completionist 2nd run.

Gosh that's going to take me a year since I don't have a lot of time to play.

Can't think of many other games that makes such a fate a good thing.  ;)

You had me at wolf pup, :P.  I may give this game a go at some point, although it's been a looooonnnggg time since I have played a Metal Gear game.  I have absolutely no clue what's going on with the story.

I'm going to buy The Phantom Pain pretty soon, but I'm now engrossed once again in my NG+ playthrough for TW3. Trying a few different things this time like not killing a certain tree...

Only disappointing thing is how quickly my imported Wolven Armour became irrelevant, and the fact that you can't get the Legendary versions of it until you get to Kaer Morhen, and thus you need to abandon the sexy leather jacket or you'll get your arse kicked.

Thus I modded Griffin armour to look like it because I'm a cheap bastard. But wolf school is love, wolf school is life.

...I actually meant to say killing the tree. I didn't kill it my first playthrough. :S

Spoiler

I actually really admire CDPR for this whole choice, seeing the consequence was completely unpredictable and both options could be argued for, I suppose. I'd definitely like to see things like that more often in these choice-driven stories.

Sounds brilliant, I wish I was better at shooters but I suck, tried demos of previous MSG instalments and died very quickly. Think the only fps game I am any good at is the Uncharted series, looking forward to Uncharted 4, that looks amazing from the trailers.

Back on topic, I have the same problem @KBomb, I am glad I kept all my completed playthroughs, hopefully I can use one of them if I decide to buy that last dlc. Won't be for a while though, having too much fun in Witcher 3, with occasional doses of Everybody's gone to the Rapture, Lego Batman 3 and Lego Marvel Superheroes.

Dishonored is one of the best games I've ever played - Dishonored 2 is gonna be a rare day one purchase for me, I think.

I'm a little bit interested in MGS, but I haven't played one of those since MGS2, and frankly, I'm not sure I'm into if the story is still quite so pants-on-head ridiculous (I have good friends who love the series and from what they say, I think it might be). The menus and minutia of the base management look dense and tedious in the same way that a lot of Japanese games seem to these days - I just don't have the energy to deal with it.

I really really need Kaer Morhen to be like, twice as big as it is, by the way.

Big in terms of what?
I think it used to be big judging by the ruined towers scattered all over the place. It seems only the main area survived after attacks after attacks on the witcher's home place.

Big like it's the smallest zone after the Vizima castle, but the prettiest by a long shot. I want more stuff there.

Not sure what Tommy meant, but its not bad for us gamers that there are so many quality AAA titles out there. And isn't it better if they win against serious competition?

For me it's between Life is strange, Witcher 3, Axiom verge and Rocket league among the games i've played. Incredible year so far and I've yet to play Metal gear and Fallout 4. Though doubt the latter being a contender.

Almost forgot Starcraft II Legacy of the Void, but then again Blizzard games hardly ever win any awards. Such a shame, because they make some great games.

This is precisely what I meant.

I'm not mad that a whole bunch of good games came out this year. Whether or not my particular pet game wins GOTY doesn't really matter to me.

That's true. IF the witcher wins it then, damn it would be the sweetest win ever. MGS did look so friggin good even if it's totally not my thing. So anyway, I was just wondering what he meant.

When is the next starcraft coming out anyway?

This year as far as i know. The beta is ongoing now and they have released the prologue for pre-orders. I am guessing November.

I think that most of Bethesda's mainline games have been flawed masterpieces that out-potential most games handily and completely deserve all their acclaim and awards, so I'm really looking forward to Fallout. Based on my 20 year experience with Beth games versus my 120 hours with TW3 in the past month (yeesh), I think probably either of these games could win, and in either case it would be well-deserved. Of course I can't say anything sure - Fallout could be a disaster. I would highly doubt that MGS would be a serious contender to GOTY against TW3 and FO4, but who knows? Could see Konami sabotaging that somehow purely out of spite, though.

I don't have any other games to look forward to til ME4 since Fallout and MG aren't my thing. But I think I am ok til then, with the witcher + xpack. If not, I can always try out the Trespasser since that one looks interesting.

I see the Bloody Baron quest is one of the moments up for a Golden Joystick award http://forums.cdproj...ysticks-Awards! Hope Witcher 3 wins the sections it's nominated for.  :D

I guess I'm weird, because I thought chasing Dandelion and hanging out with Triss in Novigrad was infinitely more entertaining than the Baron's quest.
