Dishonored is one of the best games I've ever played - Dishonored 2 is gonna be a rare day one purchase for me, I think.

I agree.  The mechanics are super sharp.  The world is unique and very interesting.  The characters were fascinating, Granny Rags probably being my favorite.  The story was a pretty simple, but I am okay with that when the gameplay is so danged good as Dishonored's was.  I just finished a playthough yesterday where I got Ghost, Shadow, and Mostly Flesh and Steel achievements, was super happy about that.  :D

That's true. IF the witcher wins it then, damn it would be the sweetest win ever. MGS did look so friggin good even if it's totally not my thing. So anyway, I was just wondering what he meant.

When is the next starcraft coming out anyway?

There are so many GOTY awards out there though from so many different places.  Witcher is bound to win some of them.  Are there even any awards that are considered more pretigious than the other ones?  I know Spike does it's yearly show but...I have heard a lot of people consider that show to mostly be terrible.

I guess I'm weird, because I thought chasing Dandelion and hanging out with Triss in Novigrad was infinitely more entertaining than the Baron's quest.

More entertaining?  Perhaps, but the Baron's quest is one of those things that just really socks you in the gut no matter which way you go about it.

I was so thrilled when I saw the trailer for Dishonored 2. Don't me wrong, playing as Corvo was pretty slick.I just think Emily comin' to wreck.

When did the Gwent AI get so smart? For some reason they never used to use decoys to steal my spy cards before, but now they do it all the time. I always thought that was my trick. Maybe I was just obscenely lucky last playthrough.

You might want a spoiler tag on that.

I did, thank you for the heads up.

But delete my quoted post from yours. :D

Dorian without his mustache? Yeah, I remember some gif showing that atrocious mod... My eyes burned and I had nightmares at night. It wasn't Dorian anymore.

It honestly didn't. Maybe because I knew the story going in, but again because I thought there was approximately zero complexity happening. It was all very straightforward.

Perhaps it's with a change in difficulty. My first play through was on Blood and bones, and they did all the time to me. When it first happened I thought now that's a good trick. That was without many of the patches we have now.

I love the finishing moves in Witcher 3, so damn satisfying. Still, not as satisfying as jumping on the chest of an ogre and stabby stabby in DA:O.

Warden was that bad ass he/she could stab 'em through the heart with a mace or a maul! Now that takes some effort.

Nonononono! Leave the beards and the tashes alone. They should make coconut hair mod and goatee on Solas instead!

I think you just got lucky, they do it to me all the time even though I play on the easiest setting. I am starting to hate Gwent, the people with Sco'tel or Monster decks beat me everytime even if I use weather cards etc so frustrating. I swear they have maximum scorch cards every hand too.

Since this is the de facto Witcher 3 thread here, what do you guys think of the World of Witcher book? I've played the first few games but felt they did a bad job explaining the Witcher world, and it has good reviews on Amazon. Additionally, I thought the first two games did a bad job explaining Geralt's history; are there any books translated into English that you would consider important for caring about the events of the third game?

I picked it up at a bookstore and had to put it down because it was chock full of spoilers. That said, it looks like it's a pretty good bet for a comprehensive introduction to the world.

I imagine a lot of people will suggest you just read the books, but from my limited and subjective delving, they're pretty bad.

My knowledge is pretty much completely derived from the games, and I'm doing fine in the third game. You learn a lot more about Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer's history over the course of it.

I haven't really read any books that deals with The Witcher world, not even sure what the world is called. I guess that is my main problem with the franchise as a whole, yes it tells great stories, but it explains the world poorly. I do understand the conflicts that takes place, who is in charge of what and how most kingdoms function, and i never had any problems in TW3 with what was going on. Guess some background about Ciri and Yennefer would have been nice before i started playing as they take the center stage for alot of the game.

Everything I learned about them was pretty much in the third game, but the story doesn't suffer for it (makes sense, since Geralt spent the first two recovering from amnesia). They're barely mentioned at all in the first two games.

I still thought Novigrad and Skellige were more engaging, either way.

Only read the blood of elves and that pretty much told me where she got her powers from.

Even then I don't think it dimenished my TW3 enjoyment. Although I had to watch some movie cut scenes from the first 2 just to understand the kings and roche, dijkstra etc. For Yen, Triss and Ciri, I kind of got their story along the way. AND on this thread.

I will read the remaining books later on though because I really quite liked the Blood of Elves.

My recommendation for the Monster Deck is to just let them win the first round and waste turns by throwing out some less powerful cards, because people playing the Monster Deck seem to just throw out powerful stuff like nobody's business. With the mob ability most of their cards have, chances are they'll have significantly less cards than you next round. Worked for me so far.

If you have a lot of spys in your deck I find it's pretty hard to lose.

Play all your spys, pass the first round and more often than not you'll have a serious numbers advantage, they'll pretty much always pass the second round straight away and you'll clear them up in the 3rd round.

This is a solid strategy, and if you are losing and have a decoy, just withdraw a card that fits into the next round and bait more cards out of your opponent. Sometimes it can even be worth it to just blow your leader card if it has no use just to bait another card. The pattern for winning becames clear abit to early, imo and after you get a few hero cards you can just roll over anything.

Just be wary of them yoinking your spy cards out from under you. >.>

Though it's kinda hilarious when you send a spy card your opponent's way, they use a decoy to steal it, then immediately send that same spy right back at you. You have some shaky loyalties, Djikstra.

Read Time of Contempt, Dijkstra, Phillipa, Francesca all come into play. It could help you to understand the world and its conflicts much better.
