I will say this: I started a new playthrough in DAI today and wondering around the Hinterlands, I have noticed there seems to be more little "camps" around the areas than it used to be. I don't know if this was fixed in the latest patch or if it is all random and I just never encountered it before, but there were only
about one that I recall in the Hinterlands before this go 'round. Interested to see what else pops up.

Did you choose any of the new Trial settings? I am using the ones for Scaling lvls upward, and Varied abilities for enemies; the bonus items and faster XP are helping the replay factor alive.

I am not. Actually, I forgot about them. How much faster do you gain xp and are the bonus items good?

By scaling, no more running into lesser encounters; helps boost the XP enough for those that wish to skip more side quests. Gain some random items. too.

The varied encounters appears to add Guard to some Warriors, Barrier regen for Mages, etc; a bit hard for me to tell past visuals (do not use Floating Text), but does change the usual confrontations.

Am not a fan of the Sigils (ie; Armor Runes), but many of the new items are helpful in tailoring the characters a bit differently.

That new Stealth ring for Mages is very useful, but does make it more difficult for the party to follow. Drinking potions, planting flags, and a simple Quicksave/ Quickload will also make one visible again. There are more new unique items like that, plus some varied random ones that have new effects (eg; increase/ decrease threat).

I just finished my first game of TW3. It took 187 hours and I know I didn't finish everything. I gotta say the ending coulda been longer but it had some really powerful moments

Spoiler
I cried at the ending and I am excited to start a new playthrough. I still am floored that i had Such a tense emotional response to this game. I hope Bioware does take a few things out of CDPR book for there next game. Because I would like to say the same things about DA4. Really can't say to much about DAI the good parts of it where drowned out in my opinion by all the bad things about it.

I'm sure it's been mentioned already, but each active ability has a choice between two different upgrades now. I'm assuming this is available in the main game as well, but some of them are really neat.

They added a schematic for the "Blade of Tidarion" as well. The prospect of playing a Knight Enchanter with that thing plus some of the neat skill upgrades (like the new fire mine) is pretty damn tasty.

Seriously though, what they did with the golden nug is ten times better than a standard NG+ if you ask me. The trials will hopefully prevent it from trivializing content if that's what you're looking for, but the power of having all of the late game schematics available coupled with the freedom to determine your character's looks will make runs a lot faster and more enjoyable for those simply playing for different outcomes. I am super happy about all of this.

Yes; all the Active upgrade options are available in the main game.

What I like about the Golden Nug is that while I can improve the appearance, and boost the armor and damage early, I am still limited by the materials one locates; thus it is still fairly balanced for gameplay.

FYI - One of the upgrades for Lunge and Slash has a known CTD bug; best keep the extra damage version until it is patched.

Incredibly brave of you.  Would not be able to do it myself despite all the interesting things I have been hearing about it.

Think so. Haven`t encountered a quest to retrieve it in my playthrough ("good ending"). And I think it`s a strong guess they`d make it an actual quest instead of a "random encounter" one could miss out on - regarding the importance of it and the one who stole it.

He's voicing the central character in an upcoming noir detective game based on the DEA agent who took down Al Capone, also.

I think it's one to look out for, but I'm a sucker for this kind of thing:

I enjoyed LA Noire very much, though I don't think I've played it since it came out. I haven't played the Mafia series though. Seems a little too GTA for my tastes, but I could be wrong about that.

The original Mafia is very different from GTA in every aspect, except open city to explore. Its a classic and well worth playing. Mafia II has a great story, I just don't like anything else about it. Really enjoyed LA Noire myself, but haven't played it since release either, might have to pick it up again now.

I loved LA Noire so much. I played through it several times. I have never played either Mafi, but I watched a friend play through both and thought it was good. I liked Mafia 2, but maybe because I found Joe endearing.

Personally, I would love to see a NY Noire, surrounding the mafia from the 30's.

The best noir game is obviously Grim Fandango, though.

If I am understanding your post correctly, you think that TW3 is focused on exploration rather than story?  If so...you are so very, very, very wrong there.

This is a very late reply but no, I don't think TW3 is focused on exploration. I meant that Skyrim is more focused on exploration and so if DA were to borrow elements it should be from another game that more focused on story like TW3.

No one is saying DA should be a mirror of Witcher 3, if you read the thread people are suggesting that DA should have things like more story driven side quests like Witcher 3 has rather than so many fetch quests... etc... etc... etc...

Have you played Witcher 3, because it is heavily story driven and like the DA series used to have it has decisions that have consequences something DAI did away with for the most part.

Yes, I have played TW3. If I gave off the impression that I don't think it's story driven then I apologize because that really couldn't be further from the truth. As stated above, I meant that when it comes to looking to other games for inspiration it should be games that are also story-driven (TW3) versus exploration-driven (Skyrim).

Haha so funny.

I have a friend named Gerald and I have accidentally called him Geralt more times than I can count.

I just started reading the books and damn they're good. I'll probably hold off finishing NG+ until I've read a couple of 'em. It'll hopefully give me a new perspective on the game; should be more fun that way.

I'd start reading the books and try to give the games a third shot at charming me, but I lack the ability to play the first and second titles at present. Alas. Someday I'll give it one last push.

I haven't played the first 2 either but still got charmed even going into the game as a full blown dragon age fan girl. But I don't think I'll play the first 2 as charmed as I am with the 3rd. Well .. maybe the 2nd maybe. I've got the games just to give support ( and they were cheap on steam) but I don't think I will touch them.

I really envy tommyservo's patience on the series marathon.
