I haven't played the first 2 either but still got charmed even going into the game as a full blown dragon age fan girl. But I don't think I'll play the first 2 as charmed as I am with the 3rd. Well .. maybe the 2nd maybe. I've got the games just to give support ( and they were cheap on steam) but I don't think I will touch them.

I really envy tommyservo's patience on the series marathon.

I haven't played the 1st and don't really plan on it based on what I've heard. But even though I dread the combat and inventory systems of the 2nd one, it is definitely worth at least one playthrough for the story reactivity.

They are great games. Better than the third, in my opinion. If you ever find the patience to go back and play them, you really should :)

Give TW2 a try. Story wise I thinks it is even better than TW3, DA2 is simply blown away by TW2 as well.

TW2 is definitely worth playing.

I read an article today (It was three months old, actually. School and work is lagging me) and it said the expansions combined will be bigger than TW2 and will contain new items and all the delicious things that should come with an expansion/dlc. That sounds so amazing to me. I can't wait.

I probably should play the earlier serie. I mean when i played DA2, I did not think I will ever play DAO and what so you know.. it became my most favorite of the series :)

But this casual brain of mine took at least 7 hrs to get comfortable with TW3 combat and I heared TW1 and 2 is even worse. If TW3 stories did not grip me, I tell ya, I would have shelved it way before those agonising 7 hrs.

I actually found Witcher 1 combat the easiest. It's slower, less actiony, almost meditative. I guess people who prefer player's skills and not character's stats to play major role would find it boring. As someone who has not good reaction, Witcher 2 was more challenging.

Here is a few first impressions of the new expansion, read at your own risk. Wouldn't say its spoilery, but there are a few pictures.

EDIT - Added PC gamer article.

I don't really know what eurogamer is trying to say. CDPR has already explicitly what they consider a dlc and expansion many times and I agree with them. Same like the armor and dungeon crawls in dai were dlc and JoH and tresspasser as expansion imho because they expand on the story.

Still, whether it's dlc or expansion 7 something euro is very very cheap for a potential 10-16 hrs of story content compared to what's on offer from 100% of the other developers out there.

It says a lot about cdpr as a developer. If they really want to capitalize they would charge those the same as the main stream prices and make crap tons more money seeing as it's cheaper for them to develop those. But they didn't. The price mostly reflects on what they paid to have those expansions done. Hats off

Woopps. The pcgamer one was a bundle of spoilers but I couldn't stop reading. Just be aware of this if you want to go in totally blind.

I'm so hyped about those two expansions! they are excatly what expension should be like : self sustained story arc to make what's good better, new mechanism to explore, and bring back good old friends but also expand them. CDPR is amazing.

I'm flattered and still exhausted.

TW2 was really good. You should play it. I think comparisons to DA2 are about as relevant as comparisons of TW3 to DAI (which is to say, not very, for pretty much all the same reasons). The political minutiae was engaging, some of the characters were great (I really, really liked Saskia and Iorveth, and I liked Letho as a villain), and the divergent second act was really cool. If you've got it, I'd definitely give it a go. You'll probably miss beard Geralt a lot, though.

TW1 still has nearly nothing to recommend it, in my view. The writing is stilted and awkward, the acting is almost universally terrible, the story is pretty static and predictable, and the gameplay is an awkward garbage clickfest. It's also ugly and bland. If you were to play it, I'd suggest cheat mods, which is what I resorted to by the end of act 2.

The music was really pretty though, so there's that.

I agree, heck I even bought a cheap xbox 360 just so I could play TW2. I liked it storywise but I found the combat very hard due to my crappy arthritic hands and the xbox controller being harder for me to use. Hated the fist fights and the dice poker so avoided both those things if I could. I wish I could get TW1 on console so I could continue playing, from what I remember I was quite liking it when I could still play on my pc. I need to try to get the books etc to read them. Really looking forward to the expansions, think I will still wait awhile before I buy Trespasser though as I will have the two Witcher expansions to play and Assassin's Creed Syndicate will be arriving towards the end of October.

A fair warning though, if you do eventually play the previous games. The first game has one unavoidable (but minor) sexual encounter and the second one basically begins with you caressing a naked Triss. Nothing you might get disturbed with really, but I do recall you skipping all romance content in the third.

You can actually skip it though, depending on how you answer Roche. You can skip pretty much the entire opening sequence, I think.

Well yeah, you could basically skip it but that would also mean skipping part of the prologue and the story of the game. You can't play the part and just skip the encounter like in all the other similar situations.

Right, just pointing out that it is an option. There are a number of different points at which you can jump into the prologue, which means if skipping it is important to you, you can do so without missing too much of it.

I wonder to what level the content of HoS is scaled in new game +.

From what I read I guess it´s kinda near end gameish.

You can't skip any of the prologue sequences in Witcher 2. You can just play them in a different order.

Witcher 2 is a fantastic game btw. In some ways better than Witcher 3 (story, choices&consequences the two most significant ones)

Wow did i sound that prude? :P kidding!
Nahh nekkedness does not bother me at all. I actually like having sexy female characters in the game like ME. No, I'm not a man or lesbian.

I did not romance anyone on the 3rd because I just can't get over the hurdle of lovey doveing the girls. Even though my toon is male, but as a straight fem gamer, I just don't connect with the idea. Anyway, it's optional, so I'll take the Mr. Lonely route for my Geralt. Anyway, romancing Yen is like romancing myself. I'm every bit as cranky as her irl. And Triss just seems forced. So I'm ok being alone in TW3. In DA verse is another matter.. Aliiissstaaaiirr! Sigh..

Weird. I did it the first time I played by accident, and as such just assumed that it meant you could just bypass certain portions of it completely.

Also, another good thing about playing TW2 after TW3 is you won't keep accidentally punching the people you're trying to talk to like I did.

Another previer from Rock Paper Shotgun. Not too spoilerish:

http://www.rockpaper...ft/#more-317729

Looks like less focus on combat, or perhaps a choice between combat or dialogue. Something I really appreciate in RPG's such as Pillars of Eternity.

At some point before its release I'm going to have to restart my second playthough.

I liked one of the poster's (procrastinatingsod) reply on the people screaming for diversity on the comments.

Before anyone jumps on my arse, i'm an Asian female gamer and nothing in this game represents me at all. But including diversity for diversity's sakes is something I don't agree with on this game.

Cyberpunk I think would be more diverse. I hope. As much as I love Geralt, it would be grand to play female on cdpr games.

Yeah agreed. Having racial diversity or character diversity to simply fill some quota is silly.

If it makes sense to have characters of a certain race there and it fits the story they want to tell, then awesome.

As I understand it, Cyberpunk is going to be a lot more diverse, but it also makes sense that it would be. It's set on earth in a dark future.
