And again; misunderstood. I could care less if anyone does not like the game and/ or systems. What is false are those saying farming and grinding are necessary. When folks complain when they have other choices, that appears entitled.

Elhanon, the issue isn't that farming and grinding are necessary (though the game definitely tries to make it fairly important), the problem is the system is poorly designed and requires one of the most boring examples of farming I can remember.

Yes, I have the choice not to do it, but I don't have the choice to enjoy it, because it isn't fun for the majority of us, and other games have done it far far far far FAR better.

It's something you're supposed to utilize. The fact that it sucks in a lot of ways is what makes it crappy. A poor effort on behalf of the developer.

Farming and grinding are necessary in order to fully utilize the crafting system to make it an appealing and functional system for me. I believe the system is broke and only partially functioning in order to outfit your entire team with the top gear that the game offers. I believe that Fade-Touched materials are too sparse and the RNG makes rare materials too random to fully utilize the crafting system in a way that I find entertaining and useful. In my opinion, choosing to "do without" isn't an optimal choice. To me, using low level or average items at a high level isn't an optimal choice. To me, leaving companions behind because their gear isn't up to par or sharing gear among companions isn't an optimal choice.

A choice is just that; a choice. The very definition of "choice" is selecting or making a decision when faced with two or more possibilities. So, if one of the choices is less than the other, that is a poorly designed system, imo and really doesn't give benefit to both. It's settling and that isn't an optimal choice. You claim to have 900+ hours tied up in the game and you claim that you use average gear. That's your choice. That isn't for me. The only one who thinks wanting a fully functional, utilized crafting system is entitlement is you. If a game offers me a light saber, then give me a chance to use the light saber.

I hope you got your fill of attention, I have nothing more to offer. It's become a boring and tedious discussion.

Now back to The Witcher:

Last night I completed the first part of the Baron mission and did a handful of side missions and PoI. When I tried to load up my game a few bits ago, it loaded the save where you first take over as Ciri. I tried manual reloading and it seems all of my saves after that point are just gone. I am on the Xbox One, has anyone experienced this before? First time it's ever happened to me and I am not sure if it's the game or my Xbox.

There's been reports of save files being corrupted but your situation is just weird. Don't know if this is the issue, but...

Oh snap. It does apply to me because I got that "Can't save now" notice a lot. I don't think anything saves to cloud. /Sigh I had leveled up a couple of times too

Thanks for the heads up Heirophant. I appreciate it.

Yes; some may choose to do things they dislike even though it is not needed because they wish to get the top gear that can be crafted for the entire party on nine. One can choose to waste resources, then complain about it, or select another solution. The latter is my choice; using the top gear (not low level or average) found in the game rather than crafting unneeded arms and armor for those not being utilized. Oh silly me....

Farming and grinding are necessary to enjoy a game mechanic that you deem unnecessary and that the developers saw fit to include anyway. The "options" all amount to grinding, since purchasing the materials is not an option in all cases, or was not until very recently. No one really wants it to be handed to them with no effort, either. Plenty of people have suggestions for rebalancing the crafting and making material acquisition more fun, because mindless grinding is bad game design, and Bioware isn't above making silly mistakes or dumb design decisions.

ETA kbomb said basically the same thing before me, but it does bear repeating.

Respect? Seem to recall that my opinion was not worthy of anyone. Such endearing posts like this may have reduced my diplomacy skills a tad. When outright falsehoods are posted that can be refuted by actual game content, I choose to speak on it.

Two way street. I'm honestly surprised your condescension circuits haven't burned out at this point.

No; farming and grinding are still unnecessary, at least on how I understand those terms. One may need to search and explore the areas for additional materials, but using reloads and exploits to create duped materials is never a requirement of the game. Nor is having to repeat spawned mobs for items, gold, or XP. All that is on the Player.

If one cannot enjoy the additional time spent to gather more materials, and take some responsibility for their own choices, then they should reconsider that choice. And I could care less if any choose the same choice as myself or another, but should own the decision based on what they decided. For myself, my extra Companions do not have crafted gear, but I am satisfied with utilizing Unique and Rare items for them. Those choosing to craft for all should realize that rare materials will take more time and treasure to gather them. Etc.

And what may be seen as condescension is on those same Players. I do not believe myself to be better than others, but am certainly not any worse. What I do have is a lack of respect for many in this thread for a variety of posts seen over time. And if my tenor is seen as a tad blunt, perhaps reflection on such posts should be re-examined; myself included.

And FWIW, the old and new War Tables of Vanilla and Descent offer repeated missions to gather resources: materials, items, and gold. Or perhaps a mod exists for those that wish to speed the process.

Clearly.

In any case, you win. I acknowledge that there is but one valid playstyle and one valid set of priorities. Feel free to take a victory lap, but then maybe reflect on why you spend so much time in a thread full of people who irritate you. I can only assume each new page is a wall of ignored posts.

It'll be welcome, that's for sure. I fired up the game last night for the first time in a few weeks, but found I've done pretty much all the side content available to me that isn't that damnable card game (apart from treasure hunts, maybe - cleared out contracts and secondary quests, though).

So I killed a cyclops over and over to grind (irony of ironies) to 29, so I could ditch my dumb griffin armor and wear my awesome wolven armor. All I want to do is continue the story, but I don't want to miss out on any romance stuff since I doubt I'll be replaying the game again anytime soon with FO4 on the horizon.

While sitting in a thread full of like minded folks can be relaxing, attempting to debate others of other opinions can be rejuvenating. However, as civility appears to be a rare commodity on the Internet as a whole, the Ignore function can indeed be a useful filter on the forums.

Food for thought: Who is actually judging who here?

I don't think any judging is happening.

It seems to me that the position from which you're approaching any "debate" (and actually, the thread is mostly just harmless and genial conversation) seems to hold that anyone who doesn't agree with you is wrong, and that preferences are something that can be objectively valid or invalid. If you're actually interested in a debate, you should probably at least pretend to value other points of view. If that's not the impression you're trying to convey, well - you should look into that.

Says the guy who actually agrees with you 90% of the time, whether or not that appears to be the case to you.

Sorry, but if the rumors about the romance content is true then you've already missed some of it (judging by your level). Don't take my word for it though, it was some time ago when I read parts of the supposedly leaked script and things might've changed after that.

You possibly underestimate my completionist streak (or my penchant for aimless wandering). In the main story, I have not yet found Ciri, or done the Battle for Kaer Morhen (well, I had, but only just. Once I heard about the content patch, I reloaded the save from before it and focused on other stuff).

I've done Triss' Novigrad stuff, but I'm hoping that all the stuff that's being added falls after that.

Alas if that's not the case, but there's always a NG+. It just won't happen soon.

Please. Condescending appears to be a tad judgmental, as well as a host of other phraseology from others that has been tossed my way. The evidence is still there, though some has been deleted by Mods.

And should we look back to the OP? This thread was hardly based on friendly banter, and now seems to hold only to those enjoying TW3.

Well, the first new additional lines for Triss I could place were at Kaer Morhen so on that account you should be safe, provided you haven't met her there yet in your save file. Can't guarantee there aren't any prior additions though. Didn't want to spoil myself too much.

Nope - gonna go get Ciri and progress that as soon as we get that patch. Hopefully I'm good - the content in Novigrad seemed extensive enough - I think they'll leave it be.

I'm also excited to meet Shani again. I hope she's not bitter that I didn't stick her with that whiny little macguffin in TW1. I also hope Triss is understanding.

They did say they might release something else (beside the launch trailer) this week so I'm assuming it will be the patch. It would make sense to release it before the DLC.

Probably not going to be brought up as I don't think any Witcher 1 decisions will be taken into account.

The OP was garbage, I agree, and plenty of people have been rude to you, but speaking as someone else who's been here since the very first page, you've antagonized plenty as well. This thread has since justified its existence, and especially since the deletion of the OT forum, has served as a place for fans of both games to discuss... both games, and how they might inform one another (a discussion that persists, in dribs and drabs). With the blessing of the mods, as outlined in their statement when that forum was scuttled, I might add. 400 page threads have a way of morphing into different things as they go. It's just a thing that happens. It's not harming anyone.

You've spent the past few pages advising people who don't enjoy participating in something to "select another solution." Perhaps your experience might be enriched by following your own advice. This thread doesn't need to be your pet project. God knows I've ditched plenty of threads that I thought were nasty lost causes.

It isn't about everyone having the same opinion. Often my opinion differs from some posters like Tommy or Akrabra, but they try to respect and understand the opinion rather than try to invalidate and dismantle it, even if they completely disagree. You got to have respect for that.

Naw, a mention without beeing quoted. I am honored! It has been a fun 441 pages!
